Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Ninja Tool Throwing

Chapter 4: Ninja Tool Throwing

Night.

Inside the room.

Seimei once again completed his chakra refining and opened his eyes, which were filled with exhaustion.

Even so, he forced himself to stay alert and used his freshly restored chakra to cast the Clone Technique—one of the three basic ninjutsu.

Unlike before, his movements had clearly become more refined. He could now complete the hand seals in under five seconds.

That was the academy's assessment standard.

But this didn't mean he had truly learned the technique.

Why? Because forming seals alone was easy.

And ultimately useless.

When casting ninjutsu, the most critical part wasn't the sealing itself—it was the simultaneous gathering and transformation of chakra throughout the process.

Hand seals were only a tool to assist and guide that transformation.

Once sufficiently skilled, a ninja could simplify the process, reducing the number of seals or even perform them one-handed.

Of course, that had nothing to do with Seimei—at least not yet.

At this stage, he hadn't even reached entry-level proficiency with the Clone Technique.

Before you learn to walk, don't think about running.

Poof—

A puff of chakra smoke burst forth. A twisted figure appeared to the side, bearing a faint resemblance to Seimei.

Expressionless, Seimei glanced at the clone before immediately dispelling it.

He closed his eyes to reflect briefly, then gathered chakra again and began forming seals.

Five seconds later, another puff of smoke appeared, and another distorted illusion resembling him took shape.

Just like that, Seimei cast the Clone Technique five times in a row. Only when he had exhausted all his chakra did he stop practicing.

Taking a deep breath, Seimei called up the panel.

[Name: Uchiha Seimei

Age: 10

Constitution: 5

Spirit: 7

Chakra: 11 (131)

Bloodline: Sharingan · Unawakened (51/100)

Skills:

Chakra Refining Technique: lv0 (8/100)

Clone Technique: lv0 (46/100)

Basic Taijutsu: lv0 (35/100)]

Tonight, he had refined chakra for a total of four hours. His chakra cap had increased by 4 points, rising from 127 to 131.

During that time, he had recovered 200 chakra points.

Each use of the Clone Technique consumed about 20 chakra.

So, tonight, he had practiced the technique ten times.

Thanks to the memories and experience left behind by the original Seimei, each casting had earned him 2 to 3 proficiency points.

Tonight alone, he had gained 27 proficiency points.

Added to the previous 19, his total had reached 46—already more than halfway to entry-level.

Besides that, his Chakra Refining Technique also benefited from the original's experience. He gained two more proficiency points than expected, for a total of six.

That meant if he continued refining chakra for four hours a day, he could reach entry-level mastery in about half a month.

By then, its effectiveness would surely improve, and his chakra shortage dilemma would ease.

As a result, all his other skills would begin to level up faster.

It wasn't hard to imagine that as time went on, his growth rate would accelerate.

But for now…

He had to take it slow.

Sure, he could push his body, train longer each day, and rush to master the Chakra Refining Technique sooner to speed things up.

But what good would that do?

If his guess was right, he'd be forced to graduate before long. With such limited time, how far could he possibly raise his strength?

Genin? Chūnin? He definitely wasn't becoming a Jōnin anytime soon.

And even if he did, what difference would that make in a war sweeping across the entire ninja world?

He'd struggle to impact even a single skirmish.

Why go through all that trouble for so little gain?

More importantly, he was an outsider. If he suddenly grew too strong, he'd only draw attention and risk exposure.

With that in mind, it was better to proceed step by step.

Shaking his head, Seimei dropped the thought, left the room, returned to the bedroom, and lay on the bed. Gazing at the moon outside, he soon drifted into deep sleep.

...

The next day.

Afternoon.

Same training field.

But today, Sugi Kiichirou didn't have them spar. Instead, they were to practice throwing kunai and shuriken.

Like hand-to-hand combat, these were also essential combat tools for Genin. Along with the three basic techniques, this formed the basic template for a proper battlefield fodder unit.

As for other ninjutsu?

Forget it.

Take Uchiha Seimei for example. His aptitude was indeed average—but that was only when compared to students from established clans. Among civilians, his talent would be considered above average.

Without Seimei's transmigration, the original would've graduated with barely enough chakra to cast the three basic techniques a few times.

If even he was like this, the average civilian student's potential was easy to imagine.

Learning more complex ninjutsu would be a waste of time.

So it wasn't that the academy didn't want to teach—it was that there was no point.

Students with potential typically had clan resources behind them. Those without clans but with promise would be assigned to capable Jōnin mentors for private training.

Given that, the academy didn't need to teach more advanced content.

Especially since this batch would likely graduate early and were expected to be weaker than past classes.

Thump—

A kunai flew out and landed squarely in the target five meters away.

Seeing that, Seimei let out a long breath.

Had he missed again, he really wouldn't have known what to do.

From the moment he began practicing, Sugi Kiichirou had been watching him frequently. Just like during yesterday's sparring with Moriki Tetsu.

Seimei knew his recent behavior differed significantly from the original's and had already prepared some excuses.

But unexpectedly, Sugi Kiichirou hadn't asked a single question, as if he didn't care about this student at all.

Seimei didn't know whether to feel relieved or saddened.

"Panel!"

With a thought, Seimei opened the proficiency panel.

[Name: Uchiha Seimei

Age: 10

Constitution: 5

Spirit: 7

Chakra: 44 (131)

Bloodline: Sharingan · Unawakened (51/100)

Skills:

Chakra Refining Technique: lv0 (8/100)

Clone Technique: lv0 (46/100)

Basic Taijutsu: lv0 (35/100)

Ninja Tool Throwing: lv0 (1/100)]

As expected, after landing that kunai hit, a new skill appeared—Ninja Tool Throwing: lv0 (1/100)!

Following the feeling from the previous throw, Seimei launched another kunai.

Thump—it barely hit the target.

The panel updated: Ninja Tool Throwing: lv0 (2/100)!

Seeing that added point of proficiency, Seimei's eyes lit up. If he was right, this might become the first skill he reached entry-level with.

Why? Simple.

Practicing Ninja Tool Throwing didn't consume chakra. As long as he hadn't caught up to the original Seimei's level, he could keep grinding proficiency quickly and reach entry-level soon.

However...

Seimei glanced toward Sugi Kiichirou in the distance and muttered to himself, "Will he notice something strange?"

With that thought, Seimei retrieved his kunai and shuriken, then walked to the ten-meter target to practice more seriously.

Even with earlier experience, he still missed multiple times.

That did slow his proficiency gain, but it was worth it.

Why? Because the original Seimei also missed occasionally when practicing at ten meters. Though Seimei missed more often now, it wasn't as conspicuous as when he missed at five meters.

Just give him a little more time, and he could grind out enough proficiency. Then he'd no longer need to worry about being exposed.
