Chapter 3 - A scammer recognises another

Through the dripping caves filled with sound of water. Attrix walked full of caution.

His eyes were constantly turning, ready to jump at the slightest glimpse of a enemy as he silently made his way through.

'Its been ten minutes. Why are there no rats yet?'

His suspicions grew further with each second yet there was no enemy in sight, no trap no anything.

Snap. Roll.

Attrix turned at full speed, the knife already in his hand as he shifted, looking at the broken rocks that just fell behind him.

"Maybe I am just... Too anxious. At most there will be s–"

He paused mid sentence, his senses screaming in fear as he felt a slight tremble in the ground beneath.

Leaving now time for hesitation, his body moved before he could comprehend thanks to his extra reflex stats and jumped away from the spot he stood on.

Soon, the ground tore apart and as if a water spring has burst open, a black thing ruptured through the ground.

However, it wasn't a liquid.

" CURSE THIS!!! "

Attrix turned and ran, sprinting at full speed as he ran from the living flood of rats that moved like a wave.

Over the rocks, through the mud, he even managed to wall jump as his body's adrenaline pushed his body to its full strength.

"I gotta find something. Anything!"

He searched around while running, his gaze fluttering everywhere until he saw something in the distance.

"YES!!!"

It was a chasm over 10 meters wide within the narrow passage of the cave.

Attrix saw hope, a plan forming in his mind as he sprinted even faster regardless of his stamina and leapt across with full force.

...

He barely managed to reach the other side, his body bouncing on the ground as he slide across the floor and crashed into a pile of mud and pebble.

The rats however couldn't cross and unable to stop their own wave's momentum, fell into the chasm.

At this moment, a string of notifications plunged into Attrix's ears:

[Killed level 0.5 rat: 1 exp acquired]

[Killed level 0.5 rat: 1 exp acquired]

[Killed level 0.5 rat: 1 exp acquired]

[Killed level 0.5 rat: 1 exp acquired]

[Killed level 0.5 rat: 1 exp acquired]

...

[ Trait activated: 22 luck points gathered]

~

" It looks like the first ones cushioned the fall for others... But I got enough exp to level up!"

With his eyes brimming with anticipation, Attrix opened his panel to look at his newly raised level but–

[Error@$+@]

[Player soul doesn't matches the database]

[Transferring to monster menu and system]

Attrix watched as his status changed from a human to a humanoid monster, his blue status panel turning to crimson red and another menu popped up beside his corrupted red menu.

The new menu was grey with words written in pure black instead of the previous menu's white.

"T-this can't be! I am a human not a monster!"

Attrix couldn't believe it. He has become a victim of a error he could never foresee in his plan and now he was deemed a monster unable to leave this cave with the teleporter he was supposed to find.

However luck seems to have fell upon him once more as another notification appeared:

[Player possesses a ascended trait. Rescanning for features...]

[ Soul comparability of Novalia system: 83%]

[Repairing status menu]

"What?"

The despair vanished replaced by a brimming happiness and relief as Attrix saw his status menu be repaired and almost began dancing in joy.

Unknown to him, something terrible was coming as soon the cave itself shook and the earth began to shake like a vibrator.

Then a voice came and echoed through the cave, a announcement from the general-

"The tutorial has been rigged! Run for the teleporter young man!!"

It was warning through and through and nobody normal will dare to ignore it... Nobody except Attrix who couldn't feel but smile even harder.

"Just like I planned. Here comes my big lottery."

The ground burst open, the floor collapsed as the world itself seemed to change by the second and turned upside down.

The cave had vanished, replaced by a sea of white cotton like clouds which felt like pillows to Attrix who fell on them face first and seemed to be sinking inside by the second.

"Here it is... The fairy zone."

Attrix felt his fortune rising, his levels already flying as he raised his head to look at the white clouds, hundreds of light-full wisps and a eldritch demon who was looking down upon him.

...

...

The demon wasn't supposed to be here.

"Oh! Another demon!! You seem to be one of the soul eater. Mind giving me a hand fight off these spirits?"

"What will I get?"

Confused as he was, Attrix decided to play along with the demon because there was no way he would survive even a sneeze from the monster in front of him.

"Take this... Hold them while I run!"

Unexpectedly, the demon which looked like the culmination of all evil didn't even stop for a second and ran away after tossing Attrix a blank stone tablet.

"A skill inheritance!!"

~ A skill inheritance is basically a reusable skill book in Lucidia and values as a treasure for most of the people.

So, without worrying about the consequences and his body subconsciously working under the eldritch being's request. Attrix pocketed the tablet, only coming to his senses some seconds later.

However those seconds were enough for the wisps to surround him and soon he was bound in chains of green light and folded before being slammed into the ground which now felt like metal.

"Too think that demon brought a sacrifice to run away. How spineless."

A voice roared as the clouds parted, leaving Attrix on the brink of terror as the voice sounded familiar to him.

Soon the owner of the voice arrived, a middle-aged man with a untrimmed beard and with lousy clothing with a grey coloured hairstyle that made him appear as a old boomer.

"So you must be the one that guy handed the tablet to... Just give it back and we call it even."

"Give it back? I know damn well that only thing I will getting on return is a hit from that sickle of yours."

Attrix roared at the lies of the man, refusing to believe a single word that came out of the guy's mouth.

A scammer recognises a scammer and ahead of Attrix right now, stood the guy who dared scammed the god themselves out of their money and lived to tell the tale.

"I know about you very well. Abert lizolin."

...

It took a second but the bearded man's face contorted in rage, his decent facial expressions replaced by a ugliness and demonicity equal to only a man named Lloyd.

The man smacked himself in the face, his hands sliding down his cheeks as he glared at Attrix with untamed animosity.

However,

"You know too much. Who in the he– no hell won't send someone looking like that... Who the heck are you!?"

"A twisted seer. Someone who connected with both the system terminals."

Attrix smiled as he answered in truth, not a truth that the man wanted but not a lie either and the two glared at each other in the eye.
