Chapter 4 - More of a Family or Fool

"I love you Unnie."

"Huh!"

"What!"

"Wild!"

On and on, people kept on expressing their surprise through different means. While the person confessed to, was literally shocked.

Yoo-Na looked up at the boy who had mistaken her care for him as love. Did he mean it, or was he just only so used to her presence?

"Hee-Mang." she called out to him in a gentle voice.

Hee-Mang went on his knees, held her palms in his, and looked into her eyes

"Unnie I love you. I've always loved you ever since you saved me. You've always been there to support me. Even after I got strong enough to fight back, you still made sure to take care of me and didn't abandon me. Your smile warms my heart everytime. Your words have a soothing voice that calms my heart. You are the one and only person that has ever said my eyes are beautiful, you do not scorn me, you accepted me for who I am. It's all thanks to you that I can live a normal life. Unnie, I have a lot to say to you, I just didn't want to burden you with my feelings back then. Hyung is right, if I do not confess, you will never know, and I will never have a chance. What do you say Unnie, do I have a chance?"

His eyes were filled with love as he poured out his heart to the love of his life. He was so blinded by his love for her that he failed to notice the discomfort she felt, as she sat glued to her seat.

"Hee-mang." she called him with a lost voice.

"He's Unnie."

"True, I've always loved you, but I've only loved you as the younger brother I've always wanted but never got. Just what made you think I live you in such a way?"

"But Unnie..."

"No just keep quiet and listen."

Her cheerful smile was long gone, all that remained was a face void of emotions.

"I only saved you back then, because you looked like a stray cat in need of help. I only showed you love and care, because you lacked it. If you do know me so well, then you should be aware that I only want a serious relationship. Even if I date you, can I marry you, or will you just serve as a boy I will have some fun with and end it before it gets serious."

"Unnie." he said with a pained voice

"Don't 'Unnie' me. Fine, even if I do consider marrying you, we can't have kids together, since I do not think I can bear having my kids get bullied because of the color if their eyes. I would want my kids to live normal lives. I can't achieve that with you. You are just not my type. I want a man that is emotionally stable, and that you are not."

Hee-mang's eyes were filled with tears as he listened to her words.

'Ha' he thought to himself 'you don't have to say all of these just to prove how much you hate me.'

He opened his mouth, wanted to tell her that that was enough, that he was sorry, and was going to leave. He wanted to tell her that he was grateful to her, for the live and care she bestowed upon him all of those while, even though he wasn't so sure if any of that was real. But the words just wouldn't come out.

The tears fell off his eyes, and he wiped them off with the back of his right palm.

He looked at her eyes once more, it wasn't looking lovely like it used to. Her voice stung him in the heart and her face was devoid of a smile.

Everyone watched him, they saw him open his mouth to speak but heard nothing. They saw him looking list as he starred at his Unnie. And they heard him say

"I'm sorry."

Then they saw him walk out, not turning back to have a last glance no, he looked too lost for that.

*****

Hee-mang walked out, looking disheartened.

"I kinda think he deserves this" he heard someone he passed by say.

"How could he confess to her just after she got engaged? That's so immature of him, does he expects her to break up with her fiance just to be with him? This is exactly why it's safer to have nothing to do with people who are not confident in themselves, once they find someone who accepts them for who they are, they tend to become possessive."

"Ha" he chuckled softly after listening to all the person had to say.

'She even considers them much more of a family than she thinks of me.' he thought to himself as he stepped out of the restaurant.

'How come I have no knowledge of her getting engaged? I've never even seen her act intimately with a guy none have I seen any male come over to her place. When did she get a fiance? How come I am the last to know? She didn't reduce our time together. She still ate breakfast at my place, and I ate dinner at her place, but not once did she nor her family bring up such a topic. Is she really engaged?'

"Ha," he said exhaustingly, "now that I think of it, just last month, she received a call from a number saved as' my love', she brushed it off, saying it was her mother, that they had planned to go out together, that the call was just a reminder. She didn't pick it, no, she just left my place immediately. She didn't go to her apartment, no, she didn't, her mother had gone to work, so I assumed she went to meet her mother when I saw her run out of the compound. I'm such a fool." he said and face-palmed himself.

He looked around ND noticed people starring at him. He chuckled and said in a low voice.

"They must think I'm such a fool, speaking to myself."
