"Step back," Marcus ordered Lucas, his voice strong but trembling with emotion. "I'll take Miss Ashford from here. Your help is no longer needed."
Marcus's eyes fell on Elena who was lying on the man's knees. Her clothes were fully intact, and there were not many signs of struggle on her body. The only thing was that her whole face was hidden in the shadows and could not be seen clearly. Seeing that she seemed to be fine, he heaved a sigh of relief.
Lucas's protective instincts flared. He tightened his hold on Elena, keeping her close. "She's hurt. She needs a hospital, not more chaos," he said firmly, his eyes meeting Marcus's with a steely determination.
"Who are you? Why are you taking Elena?"
"I'm her neighbor." Lucas could not be bothered. Wanting to send Elena to the hospital as soon as possible, he commanded. "Start the car, Daniel!"
Marcus stiffened, and quickly said, "Don't. How is Miss Ashford? I want to see her."
