Chapter 155 - Dragon Lair Arc: One

Sous was woken up from her cot early one morning at the open air prison. She had been at the lair for about two weeks now and had gotten use to the hard, straining work.

Every day they catered to the dragons. They fed them, they bathe them, they cleaned up after them. Sous wasn't sure why they did this since the dragons were free roaming. Some said the lair is a sanctuary and others say its a military fort of Nadia.

Sous cleaned out her eyes and left with the Hunter who took her to her hearing. She was bathed and brushed prior to being led to the hearing room where she would be interacting with judges.

She had thought she would be seeing the leadarch but apparently that wouldn't be until her trial which she would be getting a date for right then and there.

Sous sat in the front row of the pew and let out a yawn. Her and the other prisoners had to get up early everyday to tend to the dragons, and it felt like her sleep was getting less and less.

"Sous, daughter of Puimo and Elevyn, please step forward."

Sous got up from her seat and walked to the aisle that led to the judge. The judge looked like any other Hunter so she didn't know who he was. She didn't know much about the Hunters at all. Were they a species or a group of magae?

"You are here for the killing of Randali Rise of the Nadia nation. You then proceeded to flee for two weeks and a half from the Hunters. State your case."

"I did kill her, your honor, but it was an accident," Sous explained. "Yes, I did run because I wanted to say bye and sorry to my friends and family."

"Is anyone representing you?" The judge asked.

"No, your honor," Sous provided a simple answer.

"Your court date is on the sixteen of Februaris," the Hunter said and then pointed for the Hunter guard to take Sous back to her cave so she could start work.

She was grabbed by the arm and led to another Hunter, she went inside of its robe and waited with the other prisoners who just had their hearing and were waiting to go back as well.

"Sous?"

Sous was stacking hay on top of one another with just a tank top on when she heard her name called. She looked over to where her name was being called and saw a pixie with large wings, fangs, a torn ear, and one eye missing. She looked closer at the man.

"Pixie Boy?" She called out.

Daniel laughed and ran over to Sous. He had his shirt off with his chest bare, dirty and with sweat from the hard work load they were working on.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

Sous put her head down then sighed. She threw the hay barrel to the side and sat down on the other. "I killed Randali by accident."

"Whoa!" Sous told Daniel all about what took place some time ago, filling him in on everyone. "What about Makala...how is she?"

"You gave her a mark on her face. What the hell were you thinking?" Sous was still angry about that, hurting the girl he loved but then, she couldn't really talk since she killed her very own friend. She got back up and began to mess with the hay barrels again.

"I wasn't thinking," he said. "I was just so angry and hurt. I really liked her."

"Well," Sous began, her muscles flexing with each throw of the barrel. "Her and Faye are together and Makala wants to have five kids with her, be a stay at home mom, cater to Faye." Sous stepped toward Daniel. "Hey, you know where I can get some writing stuff? I really want to write to Faye to see if she can connect me with Zan. Also how does visitation work here?"

Daniel and Sous both were sitting on the hay barrels now. Daniel told Sous things went down hill for him when he was suspended from school. He had to do community service here at the lair but then got into a lot of fights that lengthen his sentence. Before he knew it, he had been here for about two years.

He had got his ear biten off by a wolf, his eye stabbed by a human, and one of his wings was even chipped because of a tussle with a vampire. It hadn't been easy for him.

There were a few ponds in the area Sous was placed at that during her time off, she often found herself splashing about with the dragons. She enjoyed their company and they seemed to enjoy hers.

"Well, well, well," a drawl and twang to a voice sounded off that made Sous look up from the playtime she was having with the dragons. Thibodeux waved at her from the sidelines with a smirk on her face. "Bonjure, Madame," she laughed.

Sous got out the pond and went to the young adult. Thibodeux walked around Sous, poking at her muscles, oooing and aweing at the Alpha.

She leaned on a boulder with her arms crossed and said to Sous,"Never thought I'd see you here."

Sous shrugged.

"Hmm, rumor has it you killed one of your friends," Thibodeux said. She was getting a sort of kick at this.

"The rumor mill runs deep," was all Sous said before getting back into the pond. "I didn't think you'd still be here."

Thibodeux walked over to Sous and rolled her pant legs up. She stepped into the water and sat down on the edge. "I only have one more year left. I was sentence to five years for attempted murder." She shrugged her shoulders and was smug when she added,"Who knew conjuring the krampus would be seen as attempted murder."

Later that evening, a fire was placed in her cave. She laid on her cot looking at the flames and listening to her roommate snore. Living here was getting easier but she wonder just how long she would be here.

She got up from her cot and walked out of her cave. She walked past some groups of people just chilling out watching the stars and she walked past some of the dragon eggs being tended to.

There was a high point that she climbed on that allowed her to see just as far as out of the open air prison. It wasn't much of a view because of the fog and smog but it made her feel at ease.

Kara looked at the birth control pills she had gotten from the nurse. School was back in session with the holidays being over, and she would be turning fifteen soon. Granted that wouldn't be until Septembris, but still.

She sighed and placed the pills in her drawer. She was starting to regret telling Sous to never come back. Even if she was angry with the Alpha, she still loved her, and wanted to be with her.

She had to stop this or she was going to start crying. What was done was done and with what happened, she needed to move on from Sous and focus on Zhiliary.
