It was apparent when they got to the third level. The atmosphere turned more depressing. There was a fog and the air was more putrid, smelt like death and rotting flesh. The ground in which they walked was racked with bones. They tried to skip over them, to pay respects to the dead but there were just too many.
Sous and Alana went to the clearing like the levels before and read the store sign that mentioned the level they were on. They exchanged looks then went back to back.
The fog distorted their view, having them rely on their hearing mostly. Little baby basilisk tighted around Sous' neck while she took out her wand from her pocket. Then she saw them, figures within the fog like shadows. She got into a fighting stance when ready. Sous could feel Alana did the same thing. Both girls dipped forward-
Sous struck the first demon she encounter. It was a mixture of demon and human, at least that's what it looked like. Its body was mutilated around the neck and belly area, and seemed to forever be spilling blood.
The demon caught her fist and threw punch itself but Sous caught. She kicked the chest of the demon doing a flip. She called out the fire spell but the demon easily dodged the attack by jumping to a nearby dead tree. Sous followed it for sometime as it dodged in and out of her. It led Sous on a chase where she wasn't aware she was also getting chased until she landed on a branch and felt a kick to her back. Though unexpected, got up using an electric spell on the demon that kicked her. It dodged it. She gulped with small sweat beads, beginning to grow upon her forehead. She wiped her forehead with the front of her shoulder.
Her spells were too slow and what's worst, ahe realized Alana was no where near her. The demon led her on a chase that she took.
She cursed herself. She could try and do the advanced spells of aqua electricitas but the demons would need to stay put. And from the looks of it, their agility out weighted her. Sous was only on level three.
Her wand transformed the sword, demonstrating once more how she was able to use the spell even when not calling it by name. Sous needed to change her way of fighting. Be on the defensive. She held the sword in front of her.
The demon that led her on, soared at her. Her sword clinked against the nails of the demon. She stabbed it in the neck with it pulling itself off the sword. Another demon came from above and Sous rolled out of the way, only to watch the ground explode where the demon had landed. One tried to sneak up on her but she quickly twisted over it and stabbed it in the heart from the back. She used its body as momentum by fly kicking its back to the demon that led her on the chase to begin with. Sous struck several times on the demon, pushing it forward. The demon blocked an attack by using both arms in the form of an 'x'. Sous struck down on with the sword going through the demon's arm and getting stuck exactly on the bone.
Unfairly, another demon came and kicked Sous in the side, sending her flying back through the fog. She landed on all fours, sliding back, picking up dust as she did so. Sous barely had time to block when the demon came back with a kick that it slammed onto her sword. Sous did a ground kick with the demon jumping in time. She jumped after it as she saw it landed on a branch. Sous threw her sword at the demon but the sword had enough power and speed to cut the branch off. The demon fell. Sous was quick enough to jump to her sword then jump down, and with her sword aiming downward-
GUAK!
The demon stood up straight stunned with the sword entered into his brain with Sous standing on the demon's shoulders. She jumped off and watched as the demon went to its knees then fall completely, dead.
With the demons being taken by surprised, Sous took advantage of the moment and leaped up into the air.
"Diluviumelectricum!" She screamed, pointing her wand downward. It was enough of what she needed. She caught the remaining demons off surprised.
Once the flood and electricity dissolved, Sous landed on the ground to catch her breath. She leaned into a dead tree, not knowing if she wanted to tell Alana that the demons of level three were too fast for her basic spells. She was able to use Diluviumelectricum because it was an advanced spell but she wasn't sure if she could use the advanced spells of the others she knew. She barely had practice for one, she was suspended for three weeks and barely two weeks later found herself on this island.
She sighed and patted her little baby basilisk, glad to know it was still safe around her neck. Come level four, she'll use the more advanced spells as best as she could. She didn't want to use her seals just yet but depending on how hard level four was, she may not have a choice.
From her potion belt, she took a sip of the parry shield, knowing she was going to need it.
Level three wasnt difficult for Alana. She was able to free herself from her demons relatively easy but when she met up with Sous, she could tell she didn't have much ease as she had. Alana gulped, not knowing what to expect now when they went to level four. She was still confident in Sous but if Sous didn't tap into those seals-
"How are you feeling?" Alana asked.
"My spells were too slow."
"That's because you're using the basic levels of those spells. Level one and two of the mountain, yeah, but the demons are leveling up," Alana explained.
Sous nodded her head. She aware of the strength and speed was getting more advanced as they tracked forward.
"Do you know how to open your seals?"
Sous shook her head. "No, I'm not able to tap into them easily. What I know what I can do is do what did when you dragged me down in that water: stab myself with my wand."
Alana stared at the seals on Sous' neck. She stood in front of Sous analyzing the neck. From her small sack connected to her royal armor, Alana took out a small kunai.
"I want to be prepared going into level four," Alana said. The baby basilisk sensing what was going to take place, removed itself from Sous' arm and went to her leg, where it coiled around her ankle. Alana placed her hand on Sous' left shoulder and steadied herself. "On the count of three," she said. "One." Sous closed her eyes. "Two." Little baby basilisk closed its eyes. "Three!"
An orange light flashed as a jolt of pain shot up Sous' neck. She felt her body transforming: her hair wild with magae, her claws extracted and longer until her arms transformed into several sharp blades like an arm of swords.
Sous was leaned over, barely able to hold up her new formed arms. She looked down at them, seeing her reflection in the blades steel.
"Wow..." Alana quietly said.
"I don't know how long the seal lasts. We gotta go to level four now."
Alana nodded her head, following Sous as they ran to the fourth level. The blades were so long, they dragged onto the ground. Alana wasn't able to see for sure but Sous' arm was now made up of at least five to seven blades, sharp blades. Alana smirked as they continued to run up the trail. They really did have a chance.
