Chapter 2 - You're A Wolf

Monica stood in front of the kitchen sink washing the wounds. She placed her right over the left hand that was bit. In a whisper, Monica spoke.

"Aqua Sanare." She spoke the Latin spell in ease. A blue aura began to engulf her hand-

"Afternoon, babe!"

Monica quickly released the spell and placed her hand back under the water. She turned to her wife just as Doureena gave her a kiss on the cheeks.

"Alpha," Monica acknowledged. Doureena smiled at her until she looked at the sink and saw the blood spilling from Monica's wound.

"Whoa, baby, what happened?"

Doureena was frantic, putting her hands over her Omega's, putting pressure on the wound. She stood next to her wife, both of them breathing steady. Doureena went to the sink and knelt down, opening the drawer to the first aid kit. She walked to her Omega and began to wrap her wound. Both women were silent; Monica not knowing how to address the situation with the young girl in the woods who lived in the shack.

"Alpha…" she whispered. The Alpha she called didn't look at her while she wrapped the bandage. "There's a girl in the woods." Doureena stopped her motion, still not meeting her wife's eyes. "I attend all the meetings. Never did I hear about children of any of the betrayers who were being hunted."

Doureena stepped away from Monica, not meeting her eyes until a moment later. She licked her lips; it seemed she too was struggling to find the words. It was strange to Monica, rarely did Doureena ever hesitate.

"No one ever mentioned children, Monica. They never saw any."

"Many of the betrayers are mutts. That means they can do magic." There was a beat of silence as both women began to realize the possibility that made them ignorant to offspring. "They used their magic to hide their children. A portion, maybe a cloak, something…" She was quiet once more, her words sinking in. "Alpha…just how many kids are out there?" Her voice soft and endearing, her eyes looking for answers and guidance that even her Alpha couldn't give, for even her Alpha struggled to comprehend what this all meant. The only thing she could do was shake her head. More than likely another meeting would be had, a meeting with only the Alphas, a rare one when even the Omegress couldn't show up.

Doureena simply glanced out the kitchen window watching their offspring play in the front yard. She heard words coming from Monica's mouth, words like 'going', 'back', 'woods', 'girl'. She didn't need to hear the whole sentence to know her spouse was going back to see this girl. But the question that stung the most was what her wife said just a few moments ago, "just how many kids were out there?"

Sous stood before her father, his body now bones, nothing to him. A man who once weighed more than 180 pounds was now just reduced to bones. There weren't any more tears for her to cry though so she could only just stand them over him.

Over to the side near her bare feet, there was a bucket. A bucket used for many things: water, food, bones. She knew what she was going to do. Not yet, she wouldn't bury her father just yet or cremate him. Yes, that's what she would do, cremate him. Regardless, she needed to see the witch across the pond. She could allow Sous to speak to her dad, get some kind of guidance. What to do, where to go. Should she stay here and wait for the admittance letter for the school? Should she go to the humans and simply live amongst them? And then there was her mother. Her mother was still missing-

Sous stepped back and placed her hands over her face; the tears were starting to come. It was too much, it was all just too much. She was only eleven and she felt like she had to grow so quickly. She already had to grown at the expense of them being poor but now being on her own-

Crack!

Sous snapped her head in the direction of the sound her ears picked up. She bared her teeth, searching, attempting to find the scent of the thing that made that sound.

Sniff, sniff!

She could smell someone…

Sniff, sniff!

"Who's there? I smell ya!"

Then she heard the rustle of the leaves being crunched by feet, feet with shoes so whoever it was wasn't poor; their feet were small due to soft sound they made so it was a kid. But it didn't smell like the boys who came to her shack that early morning.

From the trees came a girl. Sous's eyes got wide as she looked at this girl. Her eyes were green and her hair orange. She was…she was beautiful and now that Sous could smell her, she smelt heavenly, like ice cream. Vanilla ice cream that her and her father used to get when her father was alive. But Sous glared, she smelt like something else as well.

"You-you're related to them assholes."

Kara blinked for a bit, not understanding what she meant but then she thought back to the conversation her brothers had with her that morning when they were in the yard playing. Abel and Derrick told Kara that they came to the house of the betrayer and threw eggs at it, only to see an Alpha girl. Kara hadn't believed her brothers and she wanted to see for herself. So she walked across the train tracks that separated the wolves from the mutts and soon could smell a scent. The scent belonged to this girl. This Alpha.

"Abel and Derrick, they're my brothers. Yeah…they were jerks."

Kara had difficulty looking Sous in the eyes; the girl stared at her with such analytical eyes that it caused some discomfort in Kara. She felt she was being judged, something she didn't ever have to experience, something that was mostly done onto mutts such as the girl that stood before her.

"You're the Omegress daughter."

"Ah," Kara gasped. Her smell was amazing but her mother was here. Why?

"What you want?"

Kara felt her lips dry and her tongue stuck in its position, unable to talk. She didn't want anything; she just didn't believe her brothers was all. She looked the girl over. Her ears were pointed and long, her fangs were growing and coming in. She was dirty, her blonde hair was wild and unkept, her clothes were torn and worn.

"Are you hungry?" Kara asked.

"I said le-wait, what?"

"Are you hungry?" It was then Kara saw the features of the girl soften and a small smile appeared; she could have even sworn, she some a sparkle at the corner of the small Alpha's eyes.

Sous shook her head frantically. Yes, she was hungry. She ate trash, other people's thrown out slop, she ate some fruit she managed to pick from the woods but yes, she was hungry.

"Put down the bucket and come with me."

Sous shook her head. "You're a wolf. You're just going to kill me."

"What!" Kara was shocked by those words. "What-no. I'll take you to my home so you can eat-

"Amongst wolves! I'm not going across those train tracks. You bring the food to me and I'll think about trusting you."

"Fine, but can you at least tell me your name?"

"No!"

Kara was defeated but…but she liked this girl…this Alpha. She turned on her heels and ran toward her home across the tracks.

After watching her disappear, Sous went back to her bucket where her father was. She'd finished up what she was doing and then took the bucket home. She'd find another time to visit the witch.

Some time had passed and Sous was under the moonlight in the same spot where she saw the girl. It was somewhat ironic. The spot where she watched her father be killed, the blood still in the ground, the bones now in her home. It was the same spot where she met an Omega who, she must admit, was easy on the eyes and smelt like her favorite flavor of ice cream. But it had been hours and the girl still wasn't here. The girl was pretty but she was still a wolf. Wolves don't like mutts and Sous was not apologetic for what she was. She was proud of her mixed blood and her mixed blood of her parents-

Crack!

She appeared; her skin glowed in the moonlight. Her eyes pierced and when Sous looked up, she saw it was a full moon. She smirked and looked at the girl. In the girl's hands was a plate that was wrapped in foil wrap. She unwrapped it and Sous saw the plate filled to the brim with food. Chicken, rice, asparagus.

"Wow!"

The girl stepped to Sous and gave her a plate, and utensils. Sous sat down near a tree with the girl beside, watching Sous as she ate. After taking a big gulp, Sous looked at the girl.

"My name is Sous. I'm mixed with werewolf, vampire, human, witch, and pixie or fairy." Sous shrugged. "One of the two, I get them mixed up sometimes. I don't got my wings yet though." She continued to eat, quickly, almost done.

Kara blushed. After Sous was done eating, Kara took the plate and stood up, ready to go back home. She turned to Sous and said, "My name is Kara. The daughter of the head Alpha and Omegress. Nice to meet you, Sous." Her face was red by the time she turned around and ran off. All Sous could do was smile.
