After defeating demon that plagued dreamscape (Virtuality) of the machine world with Mother Cetra's help. Eve had one mission: shutdown the portals in The Dark Galaxy that spilled mutated creatures. But it wasn't an easy task.
Nomad Briefing Room.
Eve, Mira, Salam, Kai, and Axel discussed the odds as Anya, Vayne, Jax, Hannah, Nadia, and Zara kept up with the conversation.
Jax: "How are the mutants escaping to other galaxies? Thelarians?"
Kai: "Interstellar teleportation. The portals in the Dark Galaxy are their source of birth. They tend to be teleported to places where the monoliths appear."
Vayne: "There were no monoliths on our last mission, but we found those creatures."
Salam: "The monoliths range from a few meters to a few hundred. The larger the size, the more data, energy, and mutative power. The one you encountered on planet Kaal was one of the largest."
Kai: "In short, Jax, a small monolith could have been there with an energy signature too weak to be picked up by our scanners. Some are even dormant."
Mira: "How many monoliths so far?"
Kai: "Millions across galaxies. Thousands large. Others seem insignificant."
Jax: "Insignificant? I've heard lunatics are kickstarting cults and religions."
Mira: "We can't do anything about it. IC has tags on them."
Kai: "Speaking of which, keep a few to themselves?"
Mira: "You hacked into IC?"
Kai: "I had to… to get a full picture."
Eve: "He's right. We need all the help we can get."
Mira: "But I gotta report this to the log? Won't that help too?"
Eve: "The alliance can't afford internal division right now. Let's get to the conspiracies later… Salam. Tell us more about these portals?"
Salam: "The data is derivative. The portals should be prominent, like a beacon. That's how they are attracting the creatures and mutating them. They seem to be self-sustaining. Unless we have an eye down there, I can't be accurate."
Eve: "So we can't shut them down unless we have more data."
Salam: "Exactly."
Eve: "Kai, how many large ones are not on the radar?"
Kai: "The large ones are concentrated around galaxies near the Dark one. So inferring from planet Kaal…"
Eve: "There could be more inside it. Mira, I want commanders putting a close tab on those."
Mira nodded: "Sixteen already holding the perimeter."
Eve: "Salam, the progress on the shield upgrades?"
Salam: "Our suspicions were right. Thelarian commanders' shields were a direct result of monolith-derivative tech. They are constantly using monoliths to advance their technology. Kai and I are working on it. Two more days before we can deploy it in our fighters and Soul Drifter."
Eve: "If we can build an energy shield from the artefacts, it means we can track them down?"
Salam: "For that, I need to be there on the dig site. I'll need Kai as well, and all the help I can get. It can't be done from a derivative sample."
Kai: "We need to be close enough to a monolith to engineer a device that can track monoliths and the portals across the galaxy."
Mira: "I'll send a message to HQ for additional researchers."
Eve: "Team, we can't go into the Dark Galaxy blind. We need those trackers. Doc, I need to get down there. Pick the monolith that's either nearest and safest. Kai, Jax, Hannah, and Cesnas will accompany you. Anya, I want those shields up and running in all Nomad fighters. Mira, our spacefighters across other fleets also need this upgrade."
They responded in one voice: "Roger that, Commander."
