Chapter 142: A Supplementary Chapter on Uta's Battle
The cold wind whistled, letting out a mournful cry as it blew through the glacier, which was covered in canyon-like fissures.
A deadly soundwave rained down from the sky, covering a large part of the battlefield.
The faces of the Marines changed drastically. Although they didn't know what it was, they still quickly moved aside, preparing to dodge this strange attack. But in the end, some of the flag officers were not fast enough and were hit by the soundwave.
In just an instant, these officers immediately let go of the weapons in their hands, subconsciously covered their ears, and a look of pain appeared on their faces. Immediately after, an intense pain and dizziness swept through their bodies, and bright red blood overflowed from their mouths.
Three Marine flag officers in suits and Justice capes stood scattered, taking in the condition of their unlucky comrades. After exchanging glances, the three of them looked into the distance, at the delicate mermaid standing on a high, smooth platform, holding a greatsword.
"A mermaid—"
"Is this mermaid an ability user?"
"And that sword... is it actually a cello?" Doberman held his sword in one hand, a deep vigilance flashing on his fierce face. His body leaned forward slightly, assuming an offensive posture.
Beside him, Red King looked away from his injured comrades and spoke in a deep voice, "Is it a sound-based ability? We have to block our hearing!"
The other two heard him and nodded thoughtfully, then used Life Return to seal off their own hearing. Behind the three Vice Admirals, the other flag officers who could also use Life Return did the same.
Then, the three Vice Admirals attacked instantly, using the Rokushiki technique Soru to launch an assault on the mermaid on the high platform.
On the smooth platform that had been carved out by Louis's slash, Uta saw this, and a smile with a hint of bewitching charm appeared on her city-overthrowingly beautiful face. It's true that a bewitching song can be countered by sealing one's hearing, but a soundwave cannot.
The next moment, Uta's slender, pale hand gripped her sword. She slowly drew it across the strings on the body of the broadsword, and on this stage forged of ice, she began her performance.
The music of the strings rose again, like a babbling brook, gentle and melodious. The melody contained a strange power, as if it could strike directly at the heart, making one indulge in it.
The group of Marine flag officers heard the sound and subconsciously looked up, gazing at the figure swaying gently with the elegant music. In that instant, a faint purple light appeared in their eyes, and their figures gradually became unsteady.
However, the group of Commodores, who looked as if they were about to collapse in the next second, suddenly turned their weapons on their comrades who had sealed their hearing and launched a sudden backstabbing attack.
For a moment, the glacier was thrown into chaos. Many of the flag officers who had been preparing to follow the three Vice Admirals in their attack were caught off guard and injured by their comrades' assault. Some even fell because of it.
"What are you doing?!"
"You bastards! We're Marines! Why are you acting like pirates and fighting amongst yourselves!"
One angry rebuke after another sounded as the Marine flag officers tried to curse their obviously abnormal comrades back to their senses. But unfortunately, no matter how they shouted, the people who were deeply trapped in the Siren's illusion gave no response, only continuing their mechanical attacks.
Soon, someone realized it was the mermaid-like girl who was behind this and instantly looked at Uta through gritted teeth. "You damned pirate! To think you can bewitch people's hearts, just like the sea demons of legend!"
To this, Uta, whose every smile displayed an endless charm, said nothing, but simply continued to use her greatsword as a cello, playing a fatal score.
In an instant, a series of deadly soundwaves rained down again, creating visible ripples in the air as they once again launched a covering barrage on the area below. One after another, the soundwaves were impenetrable, forming a dense curtain of fire that fell directly on Red King, Onigumo, and Doberman, who were advancing by alternating between Soru and Geppo.
The three of them saw this and frowned tightly. Following the guidance of their Observation Haki, they used either their sharp blades or their fists, wreathed in Armament Haki, to shatter the soundwaves one by one, causing them to scatter like purple butterflies, forming a brilliant and captivating rain of purple.
The three of them charged through this extremely dangerous path, rushing straight for the motionless Uta. In a very short time, the figure of the stunningly beautiful, incredibly charming, and delicate mermaid grew larger in their eyes.
"A stunning beauty—not inferior to the Pirate Empress..."
"..."
After encountering her up close, even the battle-hardened, strong-willed Marine Vice Admirals were momentarily dazed by the bewitching ability that Uta was radiating without reservation.
It wasn't until the three of them had set foot on the platform that they gradually realized what they should be doing. They then surrounded Uta from three directions and attacked together.
To the attack that was almost upon her, Uta seemed completely unconcerned. Her amethyst-like eyes swept over the faint purple light in the Vice Admirals' gazes. The corners of her mouth curled into a breathtaking smile, and then the slender sword in her hand gently drew across the strings.
A purple musical score rose from the cello-like greatsword and swirled around Uta, forming an impenetrable barrier that successively blocked the attacks from the three directions. Then, the slender sword, accompanied by a purple light, cut through the air. Like a willow branch rustled by a gentle breeze, it swept across Red King's fist, cutting a bloody wound.
"!"
The intense pain made Red King subconsciously narrow his purple-tinged eyes. He then gritted his teeth and swung his other iron fist at Uta. However, the musical-score-like barrier, under the command of Uta's swirling slender sword, expanded rapidly, directly sending Red King flying back.
Just then, Doberman, his face covered in scars, had a ferocious look. The sharp blade in his hand was aimed straight at Uta's slender neck.
Uta saw this and gave a bewitching smile. She lifted her greatsword with one hand and swept it to meet the incoming blade.
CLANG—
The sharp blade and the side of the greatsword's blade collided, creating a shower of sparks. Then, under Doberman's ferocious gaze, the sharp, slender sword in her other clawed hand quickly slashed across the several strings on the body of the greatsword, pulling them gently.
SHING. The clear ring of a blade sounded.
Several slash-like soundwaves rose around the greatsword, cutting Doberman's blade into several pieces and instantly sweeping across his body, knocking him back and raising a mist of blood.
Just then, eight sharp katanas, reflecting a cold light, were swung one after another, shattering the musical score barrier and rapidly slashing toward Uta's body.
Uta was taken aback for a moment, as if she hadn't expected Onigumo to break through her barrier so quickly. But the next moment, after her eyes had captured the angle and direction of Onigumo's falling katanas, she quickly wreathed the body of her sword in Armament Haki and held it horizontally in front of her.
The body of the sword was gently adjusted as the eight katanas fell, causing them to land precisely on specific strings. For a moment, a beautiful melody sounded the instant the eight katanas landed, swirling in Uta's ears.
At the same time, a terrifying soundwave burst forth from the body of the sword, blasting toward the nearby Onigumo.
"!!" Onigumo's eyes widened. He had never expected that his own attack would help the enemy form a soundwave to blast him.
"..."
In an instant, a soundwave that the human ear could not capture shattered the organs in Onigumo's body, causing him to spit out blood, his eyes rolling back as he was sent flying.
After doing all this, Uta maintained her composed posture, holding the greatsword behind her with one hand. She bowed slightly, as if taking a final curtain call.
"The song is over—"
Doberman, relying on his half-broken blade, quickly got to his feet. Gasping for breath, he glared fiercely at the composed Uta. Beside him, Red King, who had been knocked back first and was in the best condition, slowly stepped forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him. Having been injured to varying degrees, they had proactively unsealed their hearing.
"Onigumo... was defeated so quickly?" Doberman's heart sank.
"Her soundwaves cause great internal damage to the body. It's almost equivalent to advanced Armament Haki," Red King said with a grave expression. Hearing this, Doberman touched the slash wound on his body and sucked in a cold breath.
Just then, Uta, who was on the platform, heard the two's conversation, and a faint smile appeared on her face. "Talking? So you've restored your hearing?"
Then, under the gazes of the two, she opened her throat and sang.
The two heard her, their hearts filled with shock. But before they could realize the severity of the situation, an endless drowsiness had already enveloped them, causing them to slowly close their eyes.
When they next awoke, they were already standing on a misty sea, surrounded by reefs, in dead silence.
