Clint froze for a second, his heart steady but his thoughts sharp. The one they summoned? Could they mean me? he wondered.
He realized that if he turned back into a human now and they saw his face, they might connect him to whatever they were planning. Staying in bunny form was safer for now, since they only thought of him as an animal.
With that in mind, Clint kept his small shape, deciding to watch more. Clint crouched low in the grass, his ears twitching as he listened closely.
The four figures in dark cloaks were whispering in rough voices, and one of them said clearly, "We need to kill the duke."
Clint's eyes narrowed. He leaned forward, bouncing a little closer so he could hear more, but his paw landed on a pile of dry leaves. The loud crackle broke the silence, and all four cloaked figures snapped their heads toward the sound.
