Selene's POV~
When I returned to the omega quarters, I searched the small room, but Sara was not there. Her blanket lay folded, her shoes missing. She must have gone somewhere.
For a moment, I just stood in the middle of the room, staring at the empty space where she should have been. A strange relief spread through me. I was grateful. I was not in the right mind to see her, let alone explain why my hands shook and why my chest still burned as if I had swallowed fire.
My body felt heavy. My veins carried heat instead of blood. Fear clung to me like a second skin—fear of the future, fear of what would happen if they discovered me. Could I fight those four dangerous alphas on my own? Or would I break, fall to my knees, and surrender to them?
The thought twisted my stomach.
They had not sensed it. The enchanted bracelet had hidden me well. They could not smell the truth. They could not feel the mate bond. But I… I could not hide from myself.
