Haku was born in a small, snow-covered village in the Land of Water. The villagers feared war and despised Kekkei Genkai users. Haku's mother possessed a rare bloodline ability and concealed this secret for years.
Life remained peaceful—until her son awakened the same power.
When Haku's father discovered the truth, terror drove him to madness. He rallied the villagers and killed Haku's mother before his eyes. Cornered and desperate, Haku's Kekkei Genkai erupted. Ice surged forth—razor-sharp ice spears impaling everyone around him.
Overnight, Haku became an orphan.
He wandered the streets and alleys, begging to survive… until he was found by Momochi Zabuza. The Demon of the Hidden Mist chose to keep Haku at his side, turning the gentle child into a weapon who lived only for Zabuza's sake.
Meanwhile, Ash Ketchum's journey to Kirigakure held a different goal—he hoped to find the poor girl Haku. In Ash's view, Zabuza's strength, while impressive, was nowhere near the level of the true elite according to canon. Saving Haku might not be impossible.
From Amegakure to Kirigakure, even at normal shinobi pace, the journey would take several days. But Ash wasn't in any hurry. He wanted to experience the harsh world he was in firsthand, even if this era was ravaged by war.
"I wonder if Poké Balls work on Summon Beasts or Tailed Beasts…" Ash muttered to himself.
The battle between Killer B and Gyūki flashed through his mind. The space-storage Poké Ball stored in his ring would be perfect for such a test.
His thoughts drifted again.
"Right now, Uchiha Itachi should already be a missing-nin. I should collect more Sharingan as insurance. The more, the better."
The Uchiha massacre loomed. Even though Ash already wielded the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan—arguably its strongest form—he felt instinctively that eternity was not the limit of those eyes. He would need additional Sharingan for… experimentation.
"And I need to find an opportunity to meet that masked man—Obito. Kamui is one of the strongest space-time techniques. I must obtain it. A powerful ability means nothing if the cooldown is too long."
Comparing Kotoamatsukami and Kamui in his head, Ash discarded Shisui's technique instantly.
Even ignoring cooldowns, Ash's overwhelming spiritual power made using Kotoamatsukami unnecessary. His Eternal Mangekyō far surpassed Shisui's in raw potential.
"Wait… the mainstream lottery system."
Ash suddenly remembered the gacha he'd been ignoring.
Since he was now in the Naruto world, the lottery's items should belong to this world too. If he could draw a Kekkei Genkai…
No—too risky.
"The mainstream here is ninjutsu. Kekkei Genkai might appear, but the chances are tiny. And if I pull something useless, that's a complete waste."
He shook off the fantasy. With only eight available draws, he couldn't afford reckless gambles.
"Time to move."
Ash focused. His easygoing pace vanished. Chakra surged beneath his feet, propelling him high into the sky before he sped away toward Kirigakure. Without a map, he would've been lost entirely, unfamiliar with these vast lands.
Among the Five Great Shinobi Villages, Kirigakure was the most isolated—perched alone on an island. Any invasion required a naval approach. Taking the Mist by force was notoriously difficult.
Ranking the major villages by military power at this time:
1️⃣ Konohagakure
2️⃣ Kumogakure
3️⃣ Iwagakure
4️⃣ Kirigakure
5️⃣ Sunagakure
The Mist suffered the most during the Third Shinobi World War.
Halfway through the conflict, the Fourth Mizukage—Yagura—fell under the control of Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan.
His tyranny plunged the village into blood and fear. The Kaguya Clan, known for their Dead Bone Pulse, and the Yuki Clan, bearers of Ice Release… were both driven to extinction.
A silent tragedy, buried beneath the fog.
Kirigakure suffered devastating losses. Fueled by the Masked Man's hidden manipulation, the village grew to loathe Kekkei Genkai users, treating them as cursed monsters. Yet many shinobi understood how vital bloodline limits were to the Mist's power. Discontent quietly brewed beneath the surface.
Over time, the village split into three competing factions:
1️⃣ The faction loyal to the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura — secretly controlled by the Masked Man's Mangekyō Sharingan.
2️⃣ The Elder Council, clinging to its own authority and tradition.
3️⃣ A resistance group determined to end the unseen tyranny.
Among the resistance, Terumi Mei rose as its leader. With support from Ao — whose Byakugan uncovered proof of Yagura's possession — Mei's faction executed a decisive coup.
Their rebellion struck hard and fast. Under her command, they crushed the controlled Mizukage forces. The Masked Man, unwilling to expose the Akatsuki's deeper schemes, withdrew rather than escalate the conflict.
During the battle, the shinobi of Kirigakure saw the Sharingan swirling within Yagura's eyes. Realization spread instantly: their leader had been nothing more than a puppet.
But shame silenced them.
To admit that their Mizukage — the very symbol of their village — was dominated by an outsider for years… would invite disgrace. So the truth stayed buried beneath the fog.
The annihilation of both the Yuki Clan (Ice Release) and the Kaguya Clan (Dead Bone Pulse) left a permanent scar on the Mist's strength.
By the time of the Third Shinobi World War, Kirigakure could hardly mobilize troops. The majority of their efforts went into recovery, not conquest.
For nearly two years of Yagura's enslavement, the village sealed itself off from the world. No news entered. None left. Kirigakure became a closed fortress — a ghost on the world stage.
Even after joining the Third War simply to remind others the Mist was still a major power, their true goal was survival:
✔ Re-establish trade
✔ Re-open diplomacy
✔ Escape complete isolation
The Mist sought to breathe again… but the fog of distrust still lingered.
