Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Clubs

The Clubs. As in any institution, Cube had to have Clubs.

These were created to encourage cadets to enjoy their hobbies and to help with mental health.

And there was a considerable number of Clubs. So many that it would be impossible for me to go through them all, since there were hobby clubs, academic clubs, martial arts clubs, entertainment clubs, etc.

There was also the matter that romantic relationships were not allowed inside Cube, but in just a few days I had already seen several cadets in relationships, so it was really only a rule if you got caught.

But going back to the topic of Clubs, I decided to join, since even though they weren't mandatory, it would be fun. I also wanted to be present in some of the scenarios that happened to the main characters in their respective clubs.

So I would have to join the Travel Club and the Hunting Club.

The Travel Club was important because of all the places they went to, where important events would happen, and it would also give me the chance to get closer to the main characters.

The Hunting Club would be for Chae Nayun and Kim Hajin. Those two were the only ones in that Club, so it would be perfect, plus I could fight monsters almost constantly.

The club schedules were well designed so you could join multiple clubs. The Travel Club met on weekends, and the Hunting Club met on Thursdays after class, so I would have the rest of the days free to train.

"With these two clubs, I'd have almost everything covered."

I was now sitting down, still checking the clubs since Thursday's classes had just ended.

"I'll just go for these two."

I had to go get the club application forms, and from what little I remembered, there weren't that many people in those clubs. But that could just be a bad memory, so I couldn't waste time.

"I think I should hurry."

I quickly went to get the forms and saw that there were already a lot of people, so using my speed, I slipped through them and managed to grab the forms for the two clubs I wanted.

I filled them out and turned them in, and the club leaders were more than happy for me to join their clubs.

"I guess I can go train a bit."

I was about to head to the training room when I got a notification.

[Remember to study]

When I read the message, I was a little confused about who it could be from, but then I remembered—it was from myself.

I had sent a reminder to myself to study for that exam the instructor mentioned, so I had to change my training plans.

"I wonder what kind of questions will be on that exam."

And now I'd feel just like in college… again.

"Djinns were humans who had great desires or were mentally more vulnerable, who were convinced by demons to make a contract with them, giving them more power. The human exchanges their soul for the demon's power, and depending on how powerful the demon is, the former human will be more or less strong."

After reading that, I was already feeling tired.

I had gone to my room to study, so I started reading the first thing I thought might be on the exam.

It could be things from this world or regular academic subjects, so I had to cover everything—monsters, Djinns, and dungeons.

I thought with my level of intelligence this wouldn't be too hard, but it wasn't any different from my previous life.

"I have to keep going."

I kept reading the book about Djinns.

In the end, I reached the part describing the characteristics of Djinns.

"To tell a Djinn apart from a human, there can be different signs, such as: inhuman appearance, sudden increase in power, no blood…"

While reading, I wondered if asking for Vergil's power from the being who brought me here would make me count as a Djinn.

"I guess there's nothing wrong with checking."

I grabbed my katana and made a cut on my hand, which started bleeding instantly.

"That's a relief. Now I have to stop the bleeding."

I was about to look for something to bandage it with, but the blood stopped flowing. I wiped it off, and a scab was already starting to form.

"Right, Mystery Body makes me heal faster from injuries, though not as fast as in DMC lore, where being impaled would heal almost instantly."

I looked at the book again, where it said that Djinns hid among society to catch potential victims or fulfill their contract with their demon.

"The case of the cadet murders."

I immediately remembered that.

It was one of the first incidents in Cube and involved Djinns—the president of the Academic Club and Sven.

"I could try to take out both before they cause more harm, but both are important. Hajin saves Yeonha, and she gives him Desert Eagle, and he also helps Nayun defeat Sven, fixing their relationship after they talk about her brother."

Both scenarios were important for Hajin, but that didn't mean I couldn't interfere.

The Yeonha case would be complicated because if I got involved, there was a chance Hajin's partnership with Yeonha wouldn't happen—so that was off the table.

The Nayun case, however, was different. Sven attacked her, so I would have to let that happen, with Hajin saving her momentarily, and then I could step in to prevent them from getting more injured. That would give me an excuse to get closer to both of them.

"There are a lot of things that will happen in the future, and I can't just rely on what I've been given—I have to control and perfect it."

I stared at the ceiling for a few minutes.

"I should keep studying."

I set the Djinn book aside and started reading a book about the different types of monsters.

"Silver-Tongued Lizard, Sulfur Tarantula, Shadow Gray Wolves… There really are a lot of monster types."

I kept reading about the monsters—there were quite a lot—but thinking this might not be all of them, I searched online for another book that could give me more information about them.
