Chapter 69 - : Born Before Flame

Chapter 70

The void did not knock.

It ripped.

Across the silver sky, a second rift gnashed open—jagged, howling, endless. But this was no ordinary tear.

It bled remembrance.

The First Name turned toward it, and for the first time, its voice wavered.

"It has found you."

Kael stepped forward, hands curled into fists. The silver symbols on his skin now pulsed violently—trying to resist… and respond.

From the darkness came a shape.

Not a creature.

Not a god.

A memory of nothingness, given weight and hunger. The very thing that was exiled when flame first dared to exist.

It didn't speak.It didn't need to.

Kael understood instantly.

This was not Valtheron.

This was what created him.

Eliendara gripped his arm. "Can we fight it?"

"No," whispered the First Name.

"Then—"

"You must remember what you were… before you became Kael, before you became Caedros. Before flame."

Kael felt the symbols burn into his skin.

And suddenly, his mind opened.

Not to past lives.

To what he had been before lives even started.

A spark.

Lonely.

Defiant.

Born not to warm—but to dare.

The First Flame wasn't given.

It was stolen from stillness.

And it had never stopped running since.

Kael fell to one knee, breathing hard.

Eliendara caught him.

"You're still you," she whispered. "Even if you're older than gods."

He looked up at her, fire beginning to spiral in his veins again—this time not violet, not gold…

But white-hot and pure.

"Then let's end the thing that made us forget."

The void surged forward.

The silver city screamed in silence.

And Kael rose.

The First Name bowed its head—not in command, but in respect.

"Burn well, Origin Flame."

Kael stepped forward, fire stretching behind him like wings. Eliendara at his side, her own crown gleaming like a blade.

This wasn't about saving a kingdom now.

This was about choosing to exist—when the universe demanded they vanish.
