Chapter 50 - : The God Who Ate Fire

Chapter 50

It began with silence.

Not the peaceful kind—but the wrong kind.Birdsong vanished. The city's fires flickered cold. And every flame Eliendara passed began to dim as if afraid to stay lit in her presence.

But it wasn't her they feared.

It was something older.

Something hungry.

Ravien burst into the war room, face pale, scrolls clutched like lifelines.

"He's real."

Eliendara didn't ask who. She already knew.

"Valtheron."

Ravien nodded grimly.

"Not a god of creation. Not even of balance. He was flame before it had shape. Before it had meaning. He devours it—not to gain power—but to erase it."

Kael stood beside the great table of maps, staring at the edges of the realm.

"And what happens if he reaches the Heartgate?"

Ravien didn't speak.

But the maps burned at their edges—literally.

Valtheron wasn't marching.

He was erasing.

Far to the west, in a village lit by sacred braziers, the night turned to shadow.

People screamed.

Then whispered.

Then vanished.

And when the sun rose, there were no ashes. No bodies.

Just a hollowed-out silence.

Eliendara stood before the Crownfire Pool, staring at her reflection. The True Crown shimmered across her brow like a wound that wouldn't fade.

"I'm not strong enough to stop him," she said.

Kael frowned. "You wore the flame. You faced the gods."

She turned toward him, eyes wet but defiant. "They gave me fire. Valtheron is what happens when fire gives up hope. He's not rage. He's absence."

"Then what do we do?" Kael asked.

She turned to the pool.

And touched it.

In a single breath, she fell inward—into the memory of flame.

Not her own.

His.

And there he stood.

Not in body. Not in place.

But in essence.

Valtheron towered like a god carved from falling stars—formless, faceless, yet staring straight at her.

The realm around him was crumbling. Each step he took erased a decade of time. Mountains fell into dust. Oceans dried into air.

And the only color left was the flicker of her own flame.

He paused.

Spoke.

"You carry what I lost."

Eliendara swallowed hard. "You gave it up."

"No," he said, voice like collapse. "It was taken from me. I burned alone. The gods sealed me in silence. I became hunger so they would remember I existed."

"Now… I will consume everything they ever touched."

She stepped forward.

"No. You'll have to go through me first."

Valtheron didn't laugh. He didn't rage.

He only whispered:

"Good."

"Because you're the only flame left that tastes like truth."

And then the memory broke.

Eliendara awoke gasping, fire bleeding from her palms.

The world hadn't ended yet.

But it was about to begin burning.
