Chapter 17 - A Glitch in the System

📖 Chapter 28: A Glitch in the System

The Villainess Made Me His Wife

Shen Muyan sat in the backseat of his car, one hand pressed against his temple.

The headache had come out of nowhere—sharp, cold, and intrusive—like invisible needles burrowing into the deepest part of his brain.

It wasn't just pain. It was memory.

Fragments he shouldn't have.

"Ah Yan… don't forget me, no matter what they do to you."

The voice was soft, trembling with desperation. It was her voice. Lin Chaoxi's voice.

His eyes snapped open.

No. That couldn't be.

But it was.

He remembered her. At least, a piece of her. A scene, dim and blurred by time, but real. She had stood in front of him, tears in her eyes, blood on her lips. Her fingers had touched his face—

And then it had all gone black.

The voice rang cold and mechanical in his mind, like a ghost echoing in a steel chamber.

[Erasing Deviant Memory…]

[Initiating Host Recalibration…]

"No," he whispered, clenching his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his palms.

He wasn't hallucinating. He wasn't losing his mind.

Something—or someone—was trying to bury the truth.

Outside the car window, raindrops began to fall. The sky, much like his thoughts, was growing darker.

The door opened. His assistant, Wen Qi, slipped in quickly, holding a tablet.

"President Shen, we checked Lin Chaoxi's background."

"And?" he said, voice low.

Wen Qi hesitated. "There's nothing past three years ago. No school records, no medical history, no official ID trail. It's like she didn't exist before that."

Shen Muyan's fingers tapped slowly against the leather armrest.

"What about her current activities?"

"She signed a contract with an entertainment company under your group. Her file was personally approved by you six months ago."

He froze.

He had approved her contract?

He didn't remember doing that. And yet… he must have. It was his signature. His order.

"Dig deeper," he said coldly. "Find out who brought her in. And keep someone on her at all times. Don't let her notice."

"Yes, sir."

Wen Qi left quietly.

Silence returned.

Shen Muyan leaned back, breathing slow and deep.

She called herself my wife.

She knew how I took my coffee, what time I woke up, even the smallest details I never share with anyone.

Was she delusional?

Or was she telling the truth?

Suddenly, another memory jolted through him like lightning—

Lin Chaoxi, standing in a hospital hallway, begging someone to "save him."

Not from death.

From forgetting.

He opened his eyes, expression unreadable.

"If she's really my wife…"

"Then who erased her from my life?"
