Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Snivy and the “Grassy Terrain” Move

Signing up was pretty simple. You just had to fill out a form and pay a 1,000-yuan League deposit.

The point of this deposit was to make sure Trainers actually showed up on time.

After all, once the match schedule was set, it would be pretty awkward if too many people failed to show up for their battles.

But when people put money down, they subconsciously remembered their commitments.

Of course, after the tournament ended, the organizers would refund the deposit.

By the time Lin Feng finished registering, it was around ten in the morning.

He thought for a moment and decided to pick up some extra supplies before heading home.

Moving through the store like a seasoned regular, he went straight to the berry section and bought the ingredients he needed for making Maintenance Pokéblocks.

Then he glanced down at Snivy in his arms.

"Is there anything you'd like to buy?"

"Snivy?"

Snivy shook its head. It had only ever spied on humans secretly from the edge of the woods.

It had never been inside a supermarket like this before.

But deep down, it was secretly taking mental notes.

Apparently, you could use those little square machines (phones) to exchange for all sorts of things in here…

"Should I buy another Rotom?"

Lin Feng fell into deep thought.

For Gyms or Breeding Houses, Rotom was the perfect assistant. Whether it was data recording, weather forecasts, or checking soil moisture Rotom could handle it all.

It was also the only Pokémon that didn't count against a Trainer's party limit.

But that idea only flickered through his mind before he finally murmured to himself, "Forget it. I'll wait until I've got more money."

The money his parents had left him wasn't limitless.

He'd checked his balance yesterday. He still had about 320,000 yuan left. But a single Rotom cost 250,000 yuan.

He had to keep some money aside for emergencies.

Besides, his plantation wasn't that big yet. He could still manage it on his own.

After finishing his shopping, Lin Feng passed a shelf of pasture grass seeds on his way out and paused to think.

Rather than letting weeds take over his unused plots of land, it would make more sense to plant pasture grass instead.

He remembered that in Huaqiao Village, under Wutong City's administration, someone had set up a large Miltank ranch. Sometimes, they'd even buy dry hay from outside sources.

Even if no one bought his grass, he could always use it himself later.

The idea of raising milk-producing Miltank had been lodged in his mind for a long time now.

Any decent Breeding House couldn't just focus on one kind of Pokémon.

Some officially recognized Breeding Houses raised dozens of different species. Some even became the first stop for new Trainers, where they could choose their starter Pokémon.

Of course, running that kind of operation would mean staying extremely busy.

Thinking about it like that, being a Breeder was starting to feel… a lot like working a regular nine-to-five job.

(Sigh~)

Once he finished buying his supplies, Lin Feng took Snivy out for a steak lunch.

But Snivy only critiqued it: "Snivy." (It's not as good as the noodles you make…)

Lin Feng couldn't help laughing.

Come on now-

He was a top-tier Breeder, after all!

In contrast to his previous life, in this world, the immense power of Pokémon meant that a portion of ordinary animals had already gone extinct. The ones that remained could only survive under human protection.

When Lin Feng got home, the first thing he did was make Maintenance Pokéblocks for Feebas.

He'd done this so many times by now that it was practically second nature.

In less than ten minutes, a fresh batch of Pokéblocks was ready.

Maintenance Pokéblock: Grade C Pokéblock, made from Beauty Berries and Freckle-Removing Herbs. Taken over time, it helps keep skin (or scales) smooth and shiny.

Effect: Combines the effects of Beauty Berries and Freckle-Removing Herbs into one Pokéblock, maximizing their properties. After consumption, Charm increases by 15% for one hour.

"…Hmm?"

Lin Feng made a small sound of surprise.

How exactly was one supposed to measure something like "Charm"?

And… would it work on him if he ate it himself?

He crumbled a warm Pokéblock into the aquarium, watching as Feebas eagerly gobbled it up.

Moments later, he sensed a subtle transformation.

Rubbing his eyes, Lin Feng felt like Feebas genuinely looked a little prettier than before.

Its scales seemed smoother, shifting from a dull gray-black to a soft ivory color. Even its fishy eyes looked a bit more delicate.

That was quite an impressive improvement.

"Is the effect really this good?"

"Snivy, want to try one?"

Lin Feng held out another Pokéblock to Snivy, who accepted it happily.

Snivy didn't undergo such a dramatic transformation afterward, but it did look a bit sleeker and shinier.

"At this rate, I bet you'll evolve in another three or four days," Lin Feng said with a grin.

A little while later, he scooped Feebas out of the tank and examined it.

The previously pitted and scaly patches were already starting to heal.

Looking satisfied, Lin Feng nodded.

Once he had a Milotic… he'd be able to… hehehe…

Slack off a lot more!

Summer temperatures were blazing hot.

Newly planted crops usually needed watering, especially after fertilizer application. Naturally, this meant the plants would demand even more water.

If Lin Feng had to handle it all by himself, once his plantation was fully planted, he'd have no choice but to spend every day stuck there working.

That was why he so desperately wanted a Milotic to help water the crops.

For now, though…

Lin Feng glanced out at the scorching heatwaves shimmering outside.

He let out a resigned sigh.

Then, despite the heat, he headed for his plantation.

As expected, just as he'd thought…

Even though he'd planted the crops only the night before, the seedlings had already grown about ten centimeters tall.

But their leaves were drooping and wilting in the sun.

Snivy followed him out, and upon seeing the entire field choked with weeds, it immediately began pulling them out by the handful.

This time, it didn't bother pretending to go slow. It yanked weeds out with lightning speed.

"Snivy, wait. Stop pulling weeds for now. Come over here."

Lin Feng suddenly remembered that he'd forgotten to teach Snivy its new move, Grassy Terrain.

"Snivy?" (What's wrong?)

Snivy worried that Lin Feng might have noticed how it had deliberately slowed down yesterday while weeding. Its eyes dropped, and it looked a bit embarrassed.

But still, it trotted over on its tiny legs, muttering: "Snivy…" (I'll clear out all the weeds super fast. I promise!)

"Huh? I'm not talking about that. Come here. I've got something awesome to show you."

Lin Feng, looking quite pleased, pulled a greenish disc out of his system storage.

According to the system's instructions, the learning process was simple.

All he had to do was smack the disc onto his Grass-type Pokémon, and the move would be learned instantly.

This meant any Grass-type Pokémon could learn the move, regardless of their species.

"Snivy."

Snivy had barely exhaled in relief when, all of a sudden, it felt like its brain had just been stuffed with a ton of new information.

A second later, it reflexively activated the move.

A soft green energy spread outward from its body.

And in the very plots of soil it had painstakingly weeded the day before…

Fresh green grass sprang up in thick, healthy clumps.

Snivy's face darkened instantly.
