Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 6:King of The Streets

9th of April 2004

STEP STEP STEP

Gilgamesh circled around the boy, his crimson eyes scanning him with mild curiosity. The boy stood there, still as a statue, his face unreadable. Gilgamesh tilted his head slightly and watched as the boy activated his magic circuits.

"Again," he ordered, arms crossed.

The boy obeyed.

SHIII VZZT

His circuits activated instantly, this was the 7th attempt and yet the boy hasn't failed even once to activate his circuit which is impressive counting the one before him was a beginner, but what was surprising for Gilgamesh was the fact that he had yet to explain to the boy that to active them at will he needed a mental trigger.

Yet the boy just succeeded the moment he told him he needed to open them to be of use. That's not to say the kid did out of some noble obligation to the king's majestic order. He just did it the moment he was told to open them.

This made Gilgamesh initially suspicious and he asked him if he already knew how to open them and the boy replied that he didn't and the fact the bell didn't ring proved he wasn't lying so he decided to test the kid and surprisingly he always succeeded.

This puzzled him a bit until he realized that the child simply activated the circuit. He didn't use any kind of cue or trigger, he just did it.

Gilgamesh exhaled slowly, exasperated. "Fascinating." he muttered. "Perhaps it's because you are a bit faulty in the head... or perhaps you are simply talented in this. Well that's better for me. I didn't even need to waste any time doing the hardest chore."

"Now that they are properly opened and functional the magical energy will just flow to me passively thanks to the contract so that's a hassle down."

Strength:B

Endurance:A

Agility:C → B

Mana:B → A-

Luck:A

Noble Phantasm:EX

A thin smirk played on Gilgamesh's lips. "Hmph. You are not completely useless and annoying after all."

After all his Independent Action (EX) allowed him to exist indefinitely without draining a single speck of mana so unless he fights he could stay in the world indefinitely. So the energy the kid provided would slowly fill in his reserves more.

Normally he wouldn't even have bothered to search for a magical energy source when summoned as a Ruler but apart from the energy to summon him the counter force has been providing only a meager amount of magical energy. This irregularity only deepened the mystery of his current circumstances.

Especially considering that Ruler class servants usually received continuos support from the counter force, but the situation was starnge enough as he had a master.

Gilgamesh shook his head and sighed. "Hey brat, I'm getting bored. Take me out."

The boy blinked. "Where?"

Gilgamesh's lips strained a bit. "I don't know. Just somewhere. Think of something that will indulge my whims."

With that, the King changed his attire, adopting a luxurious black suit paired with a deep red shirt. The outfit made him look like a foreign businessman of considerable wealth, which, in a way, he was.

***

Without further discussion after leaving the building the boy started walking, Gilgamesh walked beside him following his lead. The city sprawled around them, Tokyo in its usual, bustling fashion.

They walked through the neon lit streets, passing countless shops, restaurants, and crowds of people moving in all directions. At first, Gilgamesh was content to let the boy lead, curious about what destination he would choose.

But as time passed, he began to notice something peculiar. The boy had no particular direction. He wasn't leading them anywhere, he was simply wandering aimlessly.

Gilgamesh stopped abruptly, clicking his tongue. "Brat."

The boy turned his head slightly. "Yes?"

"You have no idea where you are going, do you?"

He paused and then answered with a simple. "No."

A low chuckle escaped Gilgamesh's lips. "Hah! But of course you wouldn't. Very well. I shall decide our next course." His eyes glinted with amusement. "We shall acquire a chariot."

The boy blinked. "Don't you already have some?"

Gilgamesh scoffed. "Of course I do, you fool. My treasury holds vehicles far superior to any person this age could dream of crafting." He smirked. "But I wish to experience this era's finest creation. Something local if you would."

The boy tilted his head slightly. "Do you even have money?"

Gilgamesh clicked his tongue. "Have you not been paying attention? My treasury is limitless."

"Yes, but people don't use gold for transactions."

A pause.

Gilgamesh turned his head while his eyes widened in shock. "…What?"

"They use yen. You can't exactly hand over a pile of gold bars at a dealership."

"Hmph. Ridiculous. But a minor obstacle." He waved a hand dismissively, nearly releasing a sigh of relief after understanding what the kid meant.'I nearly got quite a scare there, by his tone I was scared that people actually stopped using valuables (money) to exchange things.'

"There must be places that exchange gold for money. Right brat?"

"You mean a pawn shop?"

Gilgamesh smirked. "Ah, so that is what they are called. Very well. Take me to one this instant."

"...But i don't know where to find one I've never been there before"

"...Hah…Truly, you are something else brat."

***

After asking around for directions for a few minutes they finally arrived at a pawn shop tucked away in a quiet alley. The owner, an older man with shrewd eyes, barely looked up as they entered. But the moment Gilgamesh placed an ornate golden chalice on the counter, the man's eyes widened.

"This is…" He gulped, inspecting the artifact. "These decorations look extremely well made and the condition is splendid..."

"It is," Gilgamesh said simply. "Now, give me your money, mongrel."

The man glanced between the artifact and Gilgamesh, clearly torn between awe and suspicion. "I-I'd need to get this appraised–"

Gilgamesh snapped his fingers. Another golden cup materialized in his hand. Then another. And another.

The shopkeeper paled. His brain was so overloaded with incredulity by the situation that he didn't even question how a cup could appear out of thin air.

"How much can I get for these?" Gilgamesh asked lazily, stacking them into a neat pyramid of three.

"…I-I can get you cash right away!"

Minutes later, they left the pawn shop with thick stacks of yen inside a BIG suitcase.

The boy eyed the suitcase in Gilgamesh's hand. "So, what now?"

Gilgamesh smirked. "Now, we purchase a chariot fit for a king."

***

They finally found a high-end dealership in Odaiba, where expensive cars lined up the showroom floor. Gilgamesh inspected the cars with a scrutinizing gaze, dismissing anything that did not meet his absurd standards.

The attendant behind the counter, clearly aware of the high-end quality of Gilgamesh's clothing, straightened as they approached. The attendant smiled politely, his tone respectful. "Good afternoon, sir. How may I assist you today?"

Gilgamesh waved a hand. "We're looking for a car. Show me the best you have to offer."

The attendant showed them around to look at various cars around the shop. Finally, his eyes landed on a gold Toyota Supra at the exposition floor.

"What about this one?"

"That's a golden plagued Toyota Supra A80 unfortunately we only keep that for exposition as it stopped production 2 years ago in 2002."

"Hoh?" He turned to the salesman. "What does 'Supra' mean?"

The salesman, startled, quickly responded, "It means 'above' or 'beyond' in Latin."

Gilgamesh's smirk widened. "Above and Beyond, you say? Hmph, words fit to describe me. A fitting name for a king's chariot. I shall take it. Name the price."

"But Sir as I said that's not for sa–"

THUMP

At that Gilgamesh just tossed him the entire suitcase filled with money. After opening it and quickly verifying that the stack of yen bills were authentic the attendant gave a 7620° bow to Gilgamesh and went to gather the necessary paperwork for the car.

"Here Sir. Please take as much time as you may ever need to review the contract. There is absolutely no hurry."

***

Paperwork was signed quickly as the rest of the staff watched the scene stunned, barely keeping up with the situation.

With the keys in hand, Gilgamesh turned to the boy and smirked, tossing them over. "Drive."

The boy caught them. "I can't."

Gilgamesh's turned to him irritated. "What now?"

"I'm eleven."

"Haa…" He was about to rebuke the child when suddenly his eyes widened as if he had a realization. "Very well, I shall take the reins. Get in."

The boy obeyed, but before he could put on his seatbelt.

VROOM

The engine roared.

Then, with a wicked grin.

The first king to ever leave a legend behind in the entire history of humanity floored the accelerator.

VROOOOOOOM

The boy was slammed back into his seat as the Supra rocketed forward.

The golden Supra shot through the neon-lit streets of Tokyo like a streak of lightning, weaving between cars with recklessness. The city blurred past, the bright billboards and signs merging into streaks of color, their reflections flickering off the polished surface of the car.

SCREEEEECH

CLENCH

The boy, despite himself, found his hands gripping the edges of his seat, his body subtly tensing with each abrupt turn. His fingers pressed against the leather, his discomfort evident even on that ever blank expression.

Gilgamesh, in stark contrast, looked completely exhilarated, one hand casually resting on the wheel with his elbow on the window while the other tapped against the gear shift. His smirk widened with every turn of the wheel, every shriek of his tires as they barely skimmed past other vehicles and left their drivers honking furiously in their wake.

"HAHAHAHA! You should see your face now brat!" Grinning like madman Gilgamesh couldn't hold himself from laughing at the child's struggle.

The boy remained silent, adjusting his grip on the seat as–

SCREEEEECH

Gilgamesh spun the wheel sharply. The Supra swerved violently, drifting through a tight corner at a speed that nearly made the car turn over itself. The tires screeched in protest, leaving thick black lines on the asphalt as pedestrians on the sidewalk turned to gawk in a mix of awe and horror.

Still grinning, Gilgamesh changed the gear shift and pressed down on the accelerator.

VROOOOOM

The car lurched forward with such force that the boy was practically embedded into his seat. His posture stiffened further, but he said nothing, only shifting slightly trying to regain some balance.

Another sharp turn.

SKRRRRRT

And another.

SKRRRRRT

And then another one.

SKRRRRRT

Followed by another one.

SKRRRRRT

And just so to change the peace he took another one.

SKRRRRRT

The G-force pressed against his body, his fingers briefly curling into fists with white knuckles from hanging to the seat with all his strength.

Gilgamesh let out a bold, thunderous laugh. "Hahahaha! This is so fun. Now this finally stopped feeling like a waste of my time. Hold on tight little mongrel we're not even nearly done with this." His voice was filled with triumph as he gunned the engine harder, the Supra surging forward the streets of Tokyo during the night.

With another wicked grin, Gilgamesh abruptly swerved the car, his golden treasury opened just ahead. In an instant, golden platforms materialized from the ground, forming a makeshift ramp. With no hesitation, he accelerated further.

VRRRROOOOOM

The Supra launched off the glimmering structure, soaring above the highway. For a split second, the city stretched beneath them, a sea of flickering neon, before gravity reclaimed its hold.

THUD

The car slammed onto the asphalt, shocks absorbing the impact as the tires screeched, regaining their grip just in time to merge into the sea of late-night vehicles.

HONK HONK

A truck blared its horn as Gilgamesh cut directly in front of it, leaving only inches between them and the massive grille. The truck driver cursed, flashing his high beams in outrage, but the king paid it no mind. His response was simply increasing the speed of the car leaving the truck behind.

Then as the road started curving-

SCREEEEEEEECH

Without warning, Gilgamesh yanked the handbrake, sending the Supra into a perfectly executed drift that had the entire car skidding sideways along the bridge, the tires screaming against the pavement. The boy's body jerked violently, his head nearly snapping to the side before he started hugging the entire seat to stabilize himself.

Gilgamesh spared him a glance, smirking. He was quite satisfied with the current situation. While the kid might have been as expressionless as a stone, seeing him having a hard time made him feel better.

SCREEEEECH

Another drift sent them sliding past an intersection, the sudden motion nearly lifting the tires off the ground. Pedestrians gawked, some quickly stepping back from the curb as the golden Supra barely avoided clipping the corner.

WEEEEOOOO WEEEEOOOO WEEEEOOOO

Gilgamesh raised an eyebrow and asked the boy. "What's happening brat?"

The boy caught his breath before responding. "That's for us, it's the police."

Flashing lights neared, an officer's voice crackling through a megaphone. "Golden Supra, pull over immediately!"

Gilgamesh let out a scoff. "Hmm, how dare this mongrel try to order me?"

The boy exhaled slowly, his fingers relaxing just slightly. "Well… They enforce the law."

Gilgamesh's smirk deepened. "And I am the law."

He pressed down on the accelerator, the Supra rocketing forward. The police cars struggled to match his speed, weaving between traffic in a desperate attempt to keep up.

After losing their pursuers they continued their drive for a bit.

Then making one last spin.

SCREEEEEEECH—THUD

The sudden stop sent the boy lurching forward, his head nearly colliding with the dashboard–

THWAP

Before he could make impact, a hand caught him by the forehead, pushing him effortlessly back into his seat. His entire body was drenched in sweat, the sheer fatigue from enduring the relentless ride weighing heavily on him. His breathing was shallow, his fingers still faintly trembling from the strain.

Gilgamesh pulled into a narrow street, the car screeching to a halt just inches away from a vending machine. The smell of burnt rubber filled the air, and the engine hummed like a beast.

Silence hung between them for a moment before the king of heroes let out a satisfied sigh before getting out of the car and making his way to the vending machine. "Now that was exhilarating. Hey kid, how does this machine here work?"

The boy also got out of the car, his face pale and full of sweat. "Hah… Hah… You put coins in the slit to pay for a drink or snack, by pressing on the button under the product you make it come out. "

Gilgamesh eyed the vending machine, filled with an assortment of drinks and snacks. A small chuckle left his lips as he reached into a golden portal that hung in the air. From the depths of his treasury, he pulled out a handful of coins and examined them closely. 'The size should be about right.'

The king inserted the coins with a flick of his wrist, their metallic sound ringing in the air. He then pressed a button beneath the selected drink, watching intently as the machine rumbled and released the can. He then repeated the process and tossed the second can at the boy.

Gilgamesh took the can in his hand, eyeing it carefully, before unscrewing the lid. "Hmph. Well, this is… certainly a peculiar taste. But for a mongrel beverage it's still passable." he muttered after taking a sip.

Gilgamesh noticed the kid was still catching his breath and let out a light, mocking chuckle. "What's the matter, brat? Did my driving not meet your standards?" He raised an eyebrow, clearly entertained by the sight.

After a brief moment of silence, Gilgamesh finished his drink and tossed the empty can into the bin."Alright kid, now that we've had our fill of wandering around on our first day it's time to go back. You are still young and it's quite late so you better go to sleep."

The boy just nodded as an answer. Without further words, they both got back into the Supra, and Gilgamesh started the engine. The car roared to life once again, and the duo sped off into the night.

The Supra finally turned onto Kiyomizu-dori Street in Shibuya Hills. The district was known for its luxury residences and high-end establishments. That's where Gilgamesh found the hotel they stayed in before. He simply went to the first high-end district he found and paid up front in gold(which somehow the attendant accepted without questions) when the boy was still unconscious.

"Well then." Gilgamesh said with a satisfied grin as they got back in their room. "Go rest now, children shouldn't stay up late at night unless I permit it. Tomorrow we will continue exploring around."

Then Gilgamesh took out a few clothes from his treasury but they were too little to fit him."Now go take a shower and use these clothes to sleep."

"Ok." Was all the boy could say before going to the bathroom to shower.

The night came to an end for the two. But the night was still young for others that moved ready to start their preparation for what's to come.

***

The train's soft hum gradually slowed as it approached the station, the smooth sound of the tracks coming to a halt with a final hiss. The automated voice echoed through the car in clear Japanese, announcing their arrival:

"Tokyo Station. Tokyo Station."

The doors slid open, A girl of around 16 stepped out onto the platform, her hair pink with purple tips and dressed in a lolita fashion.

The automated voice now switched to English, ensuring the information was clear for international passengers:

"We have arrived at Tokyo Station. Tokyo Station."

As she moved through the crowd, her attention was drawn to the large screens mounted in the station, displaying breaking news.

"High-speed Pursuit of Golden Supra Fails on the outskirts of Tokyo. The authorities were unable to capture the vehicle and identify the passengers. And as you can see unfortunately in all footages and pictures the license plate number is always too hazy to recognize and the driver's face is too blurred to make out his appearance."

The report continued, with images of the glittering gold Supra swerving between traffic at reckless speeds, narrowly avoiding collisions. Sirens could be heard in the background as the news anchors described the harrowing chase, detailing how the police had failed to secure the vehicle's license plate number or capture any images of the passengers despite their efforts. The pursuit had lasted for several minutes, but the high-performance car's speed and the driver's reckless maneuvers left the authorities struggling to keep up.

The woman's gaze flicked to the screen with a faint smirk. "Wow! Tokyo's pretty wild, huh?" she murmured to herself, her voice low but brimming with amusement, as she continued to move through the station skipping with a certain spring to her steps as she made her ways in the streets.

Looking at the city sprawling before her she couldn't help but make a comment."My teacher would really have an aneurysm if he found out I left for Japan and came to Tokyo."

"Now let's go have some fun."
