Chapter 2 - Terrifying love

It was terrifying to live right now for Aeren. Because he was seeing the exact definition of nothingness. This girl's face. It was empty. Empty of any emotion. Nothingness is enemy of every creature. Every being supposed to see something every time everywhere. Aeren, however, was sinking int this girl's emotionless face. Just looking at her face was suffocating him.

"Your face. It is not a face of alive thing. Just what are you? Your face seeking my existence. To steal. To kill. Why is it like that?" Aeren was screaming these words while backing off till the wall.

She saw a basket of strawberries at the table. "I would like to eat them" said she, pointing strawberries.

Aeren realized that he had to forget about her face for a while before she passes out again.

 "Be my guest"

While eating, her face was not as dead as just a moment ago. She ate every strawberry with delicacy. She was acting like princesses which Aeren had read about them once. It was surprising for him that she didn't lose her composure despite starving to death. After 5 or 6 strawberries she drank the glass of water beside the basket.

Would you dare to fall in love with death? Aeren would. Maybe anybody would while looking at these delicate hands with glass, black hair that no man would mind being hanged by it, crimson lips that poison wouldn't dare to touch, greenness in her eyes that Aeren used to see behind her mom while looking at her.

Felling love inside you for a first time right after seeing your life threatened. On the top of that, suicide thoughts. What a joke of life.

"Why should I have killed you?". Aeren didn't know how he said these words. There was something inside him that forcing him to clear up these misunderstandings and befriend her. If no, pain would suffocate his heart. That thing inside him was dying to talk to her. To hold her. To protect her. To be with her.

"Because I expected that you would do this. I know everything." girl talked after being done with the strawberries "A lone elf lives at the other side of the river. He waits for the day everything ends. Because everything has ended for him already. My mom always loved to talk about you. You see, my mom is a half-elf, unlike me who is a mere human."

"Mere? You are too good to be human. An angel maybe?" thought Aeren. "How did she know such things? I have never met or seen her" he said then.

"She said it was her soul that connected her with one of her kind. Do you know how to connect your soul like her?"

"No. I've never heard about such thing."

 "I see."

"I'm sorry for such a reaction after seeing you. I didn't know what I was doing and saying. I was terrified."

"What about now? Are you still terrified?"

 "No"

 "Why?"

"I... I don't know." Somehow, Aeren was feeling comfort is his heart. Something in this room was telling him "It's alright, everything is okay." Aeren look around and find nothing that would made him feel like that. He wanted to ask things when he was calm and sane. "You didn't tell the reason that led you here."

"I need your help. I know about your conflict with humankind, but maybe after hearing me, you can understand the situation that have continuing for 200 years."

For some reason, Aeren could not be angry even he was about to hear some mere excuses. What could have made them kill his mother?! In what world, son can forgive his mother's killers?! Still, his heart did not hold any grudge against her at that time. He hated himself for it more. "I will hear your words."

"The right thing to say about your generosity would be 'thank you', but I cannot feel any gratefulness. To be exact, I cannot feel anything. No human can because of the evil witch who lives in the great mountain. 200 hundred years ago, the evil witch Aradia took all emotions of humanity and bottled it up into the bottom of our heart. Till this day, no man ever felt happiness or sorrow, angriness or regret, love or hate. My wish is to defeat this witch and find a way to break our curse, and I need your help to do that."
