Chapter 25 - His Demand

Isabella~

"Tell me, what is his weakness?" I peered attentively at his face.

"I must go, Miss Luis, but I'll get back to you when I find Jordan." He hurriedly rose from his chair and headed for the office door.

"No, you can't leave me in the dark about his weakness. I want to know where you are going." To obstruct his path, I leaped ahead of him.

"Before I reveal everything to you, Miss Luis, I would like to clarify my suspicions, as I am uncertain if this path will lead me to Jordan or not." He looked surprised to see me blocking his way.

"It's no matter how minor details you find about Jordan; as your lawyer, I have every right to be fully informed." I looked into his eyes and refused to let him go until he shared the details with me.

"Miss Luis, you act like a little child." He shook his head in disappointment.

"No, I am doing my work only. Either tell me about his weakness or stay in this office." I extended my arms to fully obstruct his path.

"I would love to stay with you, but I have to leave for now." He bowed down and exited my office.

His mischievous smile and flirty comment made my stomach flutter. This is the first time I received his flirty comment. But wait, why am I smiling like an idiot teenage girl? I must follow him to understand his urgency. My suspicion about Jordan Lucas piqued my curiosity, prompting me to secretly follow Xavier's car.

He pulled to a stop in front of the stable. What is he going to do in the stable? I trailed behind him and went into the stable. I don't think Jordan Lucas lives in a stable.

Xavier stopped to talk with the caretaker of the stable; I was following him from a distance, so I didn't hear what he said. Xavier stared at the horse for several minutes after the man brought him over to it.

I do not believe Jordan Lucas transformed into a horse. I glanced bewilderedly at Xavier. A little while later, the caretaker of the stable showed him some documents. After writing something down on a piece of paper, Xavier exited his office. As soon as I saw him leaving the stable, I ran to my car.

"Miss Luis, when did you start spying on me?" His voice brought me to a complete stop. He caught me red-handed. I turned to face him, my face filled with embarrassment.

"No, Mr. Thompson, I wasn't spying on you." I stare at the ground, twitching my fingers nervously, trying to think of a good excuse to give him right now.

"Don't tell me you visit stables to meet horses." Although he made an effort to mask his rage behind a composed voice, his mocking is a clear indication of how disappointed he is with me.

"Mr. Thompson, your refusal to share Jordan Lucas's weakness with me leaves me with no choice but to follow your lead." I can't handle his taunting anymore, so I told him the truth.

"Miss Luis, why don't you understand the gravity of the situation? Jordan is extremely dangerous, and because I unintentionally brought you into this murder case and jeopardized the lives of your family, I don't want you to be involved in this game of revenge." He sighed heavily.

I was surprised by his concern for me and my family.

"You don't have to be concerned about my family or me, Mr. Thompson. Please tell me what you learned from that man and allow me to finish my work." I gave him a raised eyebrow.

"All I got was a hint to get in touch with the horse's owner, who was still unsure of Jordan Lucas's precise whereabouts." He bowed his head with dissatisfaction.

"Do those horses belong to Jordan Lucas?" Hope flared in my eyes.

"I am not sure. I have to check first." He made his way over to his car.

"Hold on, Mr. Thompson; I'll be joining you." I followed him towards his car.

"Miss Luis, it's already 9 p.m., and your son must be waiting for you at home, so please return home. I will share every detail with you of my meeting with that man." His commanding voice made me frown.

How could he show such dominance over me? Why did he still show such deep concern for my son, even after I had presented him with Alan's DNA report?

"You don't have to be concerned about my personal life, Mr. Thomspon; I can handle both of them. You can't keep me away from my work; if you again tried to stop me from doing my work, then there is no use defending your case when you don't allow me to freely investigate." I got in his car and opened the door.

"Miss Luis, don't be stubborn. That place is not safe for you; please return home." This time, his tone was more pleading than commanding.

"We are getting late, Mr. Thompson." I ignored his pleading and fastened the seat belt.

"You are so stubborn; you have to give me something in return for accepting your stubbornness." Before he started the car's engine, he sat down in the driver's seat and studied my face.

"What do you want?" I looked up at him, startled.

He took me to see Jordan Lucas, but I didn't anticipate him asking for anything in return.

"I hope you'll permit me to spend time with Alan." His eyes, filled with hope, remained fixed on my face.

"What?" How could he blackmail me in such a manner? He doesn't have any right to use our things in this case. Despite my obsession with this case and my need to learn the whole truth about Alicia's death, I am unable to accept him into my personal life, especially now that he is claiming to be Alan's father.

"No, Mr. Thompson. I'm not prepared to comply with your request." I shook my head in no way.

"Miss Luis, think again because we are very near to solving the mystery of this case. You proved Alan is not my son, so honor my request. All I desired was to establish a friendship with him. I promise, other than spending a few hours with Alan, I won't meddle in your private life." Hearing his request made me pause before unbuckling the seat belt.

He was correct—given that he has acknowledged that he is not my son's father. There is no harm in letting him meet my son. I was already desperate to meet Jordan Lucas, so I finally accepted Xavier's demand.

"Thank you." His lips curled into a victorious smile, and he ignited the car engine.

I was still perplexed by my irrational decision, weighing the pros and cons of allowing him to meet Alan. As soon as I saw the call appear on my phone, fear welled up in my eyes. How can I tell him about this now? Even if I wanted to, I couldn't ignore him or lie to him. Before the call came on my phone, I glanced at Xavier's face, which was fixed on the road.
