The story resumed in the wake of Yuya's furious outburst, his voice trembling with righteous anger. To him, the truth felt like a cruel joke: all the chaos, all the battles, and the loss of countless duelists—merely a test to see who was worthy of becoming a Lancer.
Ryuki and Reiji stood silently, letting the boy vent his rage. Both knew Yuya's anger wasn't misplaced. Even after Ryuki had revealed everything earlier about Academia's threat, it didn't dull the sting of reality. The image of duelists being turned into lifeless cards was burned into everyone's mind, a wound too fresh to ignore.
Reiji stepped forward, his tone even yet carrying the weight of accountability. "You have every right to be angry, Yuya. The format of the third round was intended to be a battle royal. The top sixteen duelists would rise from the chaos. It was never supposed to spiral into tragedy."
Yuya's fists clenched, his teeth gritted. "Never supposed to? People were turned into cards! You planned this whole thing and still let that happen!"
Ryuki placed a steady hand on Yuya's shoulder, his voice calm but edged with remorse. "And that's on me too. I suggested we use the Action Scramble format. I built the safety measures, believing they would protect duelists even if Academia tried to interfere. But someone... sabotaged it. Our safety net was torn apart right under us. I should've taken extra precautions." His gaze dropped briefly, the weight of responsibility clear in his expression.
Yuya's glare wavered, conflicted between anger and understanding.
Reiji continued, unwilling to hide the truth. "The Junior and Youth Divisions were also deployed to help defend against Academia's forces. But they failed as well. I watched the surveillance feeds. Most of them chose to act alone instead of uniting. Pride and selfishness made them easy prey. Even the older duelists faltered."
That revelation made the room fall into a heavy silence. The disappointment was palpable. The supposed veterans had failed, leaving the younger generation to shoulder the brunt of the chaos.
Yuya broke the silence, voice still tense. "Then what about those people who were turned into cards? You didn't even try to help them, did you?"
Before Reiji or Ryuki could answer, a voice rang out—ragged and breathless.
"Haa... haa... I—made it..."
Everyone turned as a figure in red stumbled into view. Hikage collapsed onto one knee, gasping for air. His usual stoic shinobi demeanor was gone, replaced with exhaustion. Tsuchikage immediately rushed to his brother's side.
Ryuki's brow furrowed with concern. "What happened to him? Why's he panting like that?"
Tsuchikage gave a half-smirk. "Because my foolish brother here decided to take something from Academia before they retreated."
All eyes turned back to Hikage, who shakily pulled the large bag slung across his back. With deliberate care, he unwrapped it, revealing several duel disks and—more importantly—a stack of cards. But these weren't ordinary cards. Each one radiated a faint, eerie glow.
Yuya's eyes widened. "Are those—?"
"Yes," Ryuki confirmed, a rare smile forming on his face. "The duelists who were carded."
Relief spread through the group like a wave. Even Reiji allowed himself a small nod of approval. "Good work, Hikage. You two," he called to Tsuchikage and his brother, "deliver those to LDS immediately. Begin the reversal procedures."
The twins bowed and swiftly moved to comply.
The others, aside from Ruri, Rin, Shun, Yuto, Serena, and Barrett, looked on with confusion. Ryuki turned to explain. "LDS has been working tirelessly to reverse-engineer the carding method Academia uses. It's nearly complete—our progress is about eighty percent."
Gasps echoed in the room. The anger etched on Yuya's face melted, replaced with a glimmer of hope. "So... they can come back?"
Ryuki nodded firmly. "That's our goal. We're close."
Yuya exhaled shakily, some of his tension finally easing. But another question lingered in his mind. He turned sharply toward Yuzu. "Then where were you? I didn't see you during the invasion. I thought—" His voice cracked slightly, betraying the fear he'd felt.
Before Yuzu could answer, Ryuki stepped in, his tone calm and deliberate. "That was my order. I told Yugo to take Yuzu and retreat if things got out of control. And they did, especially when Yuri appeared. My instructions were clear: keep her safe until the Action Scramble timer expired. Once time ran out, they could return."
Yuzu lowered her gaze, guilt flickering on her face. Yugo scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Ryuki's plan worked, though. We got out when things got bad. But, uh..." He glanced at Rin nervously.
Rin arched an eyebrow. "What did you mean earlier when you said Security chased you?"
Yugo winced. "Yeah, about that... After Clear Wing warped us out, we, uh, accidentally landed in the Tops district... of the Synchro Dimension."
Rin's face paled instantly. "You WHAT?!"
Yuzu quickly jumped in, hands raised. "It wasn't his fault! The teleport wasn't precise. The moment we arrived, three Sector Security officers appeared and tried to arrest us."
Yugo chuckled awkwardly. "They didn't stand a chance, though. I beat those three easily. Problem was... after that, thirty more showed up. And then it turned into this insane goose chase through the entire district."
The mental image made a few of the others chuckle despite the heavy mood. Even Rin pinched the bridge of her nose, muttering, "Only you..."
"So how'd you get away?" Shun asked, crossing his arms.
"That timer Ryuki gave me," Yugo replied, holding up a small device. "When it buzzed, I used Clear Wing to warp us back here before they could catch us."
Ryuki's expression grew serious again. He turned to Reiji. "That confirms what I suspected. The Synchro Dimension's security is tighter than we thought. Cracking their defenses won't be easy."
Reiji's gaze sharpened as his mind worked. "Then we'll need contingency plans. I'll draft another backup strategy for Synchro."
The weight of their mission loomed again, but now there was a renewed sense of direction. Yuya looked around at his friends—at Yuzu safe, at the rescued cards, at Ryuki and Reiji shouldering responsibility. The road ahead was still daunting, but hope had returned to the group, flickering like a fragile flame.
-----
Yuzu and Yugo exchanged uneasy glances before finally asking the question on both their minds—why Yuri had been with them in the first place. This time, it wasn't Ryuki or Reiji who spoke. Instead, Satoru stepped forward, his usual calm demeanor shadowed by something heavier.
"They deserve to know," he said quietly, then looked directly at Yuzu and Yugo. "All of it."
And so he told them everything.
He spoke of Academia's betrayal, of how the organization Yuri once called home discarded him the moment he was no longer useful. He explained the truth about Yuri's mother—how she vanished under mysterious circumstances—and how Academia covered it up, leaving Yuri in despair. He described the cruelty: the beatings, the crippling injuries, the way they tossed Yuri aside while taking him by force to twist him into a weapon.
The air grew heavier with each revelation. Yuzu's hand flew to her mouth, eyes welling with tears. Yugo's fists trembled at his sides, his face pale as he struggled to comprehend the suffering Yuri had endured.
When Satoru finished, silence reigned for a long moment. Finally, Yugo walked toward Yuri, his steps slow and deliberate. He stopped in front of him, bowed deeply, and said with trembling sincerity, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry... for everything you went through." He repeated the apology several times, each word carrying the weight of guilt.
Yuri, however, merely sighed. "It's fine," he muttered. His voice lacked venom or bitterness; instead, it was tired, almost weary. "I don't want your pity. I just... want to forget about all that." His eyes drifted off, as if staring at some distant horizon far removed from the pain of his past.
Yuya stepped forward then, holding something in his hand. "Yuri," he said softly, extending the familiar card. "Here."
Yuri blinked, surprised to see Starve Venom Fusion Dragon in Yuya's grasp. "You're... giving it back?"
"Yeah," Yuya replied with a small smile. "But there's more." He revealed another card alongside it—a Fusion Monster Yuri had never seen before.
The artwork showed a fearsome dragon that resembled Starve Venom but bore striking new traits. Yuya's grin widened. "This is Starve Venemy Dragon. I thought you might appreciate it."
For the first time in what felt like forever, Yuri's lips curled into a genuine grin. "Heh. A card like mine, huh? Not bad, Yuya." He slid Starve Venom back into his deck and took the new card carefully, as though it meant more to him than words could express. "Thanks."
With that moment of reconciliation sealed, Yuri's expression hardened. "I suppose it's time you all hear Academia's next move."
Everyone leaned closer instinctively, the room's tension rising. Even Dennis, still pretending to be loyal to Academia, inched forward, trying to catch every word. Ryuki, Reiji, and Shun all shot him a sharp look; their narrowed eyes made it clear they would deal with Dennis's duplicity later—likely when the cover of night fell.
Yuri spoke with grim certainty. "The Professor is planning another invasion. But the problem is... I don't know where. He hasn't revealed the exact location, even to those closest to him."
Barrett crossed his arms, his deep voice cutting through the tension. "Whatever Leo's planning, our efforts have delayed him. The Obelisk Force has taken heavy losses thanks to what we accomplished here. His army isn't what it used to be."
"That's good news," Shun muttered, though his sharp gaze stayed locked on Yuri. "But it won't stop him for long."
Yuto stepped forward with conviction in his voice. "Then we should go to the Xyz Dimension first. After I sent word that Standard is our ally, they've been preparing to assist us. They want to fight back against Academia. But their situation is worsening—Academia's involvement there is increasing by the day. They need us."
Ryuki and Reiji exchanged brief glances. Both the captain and vice-captain of the Lancers nodded in agreement. "Then Xyz will be our next destination," Ryuki affirmed.
Reiji turned his gaze toward the gathered duelists, his tone formal yet resolute. "Before we proceed, I must ask: are you all truly willing to become Lancers? This mission will not be easy. It will demand everything from you."
Before anyone could respond, Sawatari raised a hand. "Hold up. I've got a question first." His usual bravado was tinged with rare seriousness. "Ryuki, about this Vanguard stuff. You and your world... you're not aligned with Academia, are you?"
Ryuki met his gaze calmly, understanding the concern. "No. My world and I will probably oppose Academia's ideals just as much as you do. But I know you want more than just my word." He looked toward Ashley, Fubuki, and Sawatari directly. "You three deserve the full truth. So listen carefully."
And so he told them.
For nearly half an hour, Ryuki explained everything: his homeworld, the existence of Vanguard, how the power of their decks was tied to another reality entirely. He told them about his battles, his mistakes, and his oath to stand against anyone who would misuse such power—Academia included.
When he finished, Ashley stared at his Gold Paladin deck, his hands trembling slightly. "So... this deck I've been using... it really comes from another world," he whispered in awe. There was no fear in his voice, only a newfound sense of responsibility.
Barrett glanced down at his Tachikaze deck—the one Ryuki had entrusted to him. A resolute fire burned in his eyes. "Then I'll carry this power properly. If this deck chose me, I won't let it down."
Sawatari, for once, seemed contemplative rather than boastful. He scratched his head. "So... you got one of those decks too, huh, Monarch?"
Ryuki smirked faintly. "I do. But the truth is, these decks aren't just handed out. They choose their wielders. The reason Ruri, Rin, Ashley, and Barrett have theirs is because the decks sensed they were worthy. It's not about raw strength—it's about resolve."
Sawatari looked thoughtful at that, clutching his Duel Disk a little tighter. Around them, the group absorbed Ryuki's words. The path ahead was dangerous, but their purpose—and their bonds—were becoming clearer than ever.
After Ryuki had finished explaining everything about Vanguard and the worlds beyond, Reiji stepped forward once again. His voice was steady and commanding, though not without a trace of sincerity. "Now that you know the truth, I'll ask again: will you stand as members of the Lancers? This is not a decision to be taken lightly. The path ahead will test all of you, but it is a path that must be walked."
He gestured toward Ryuki. "As many of you already know, Ryuki is the vice-captain of the Lancers. Ruri, Rin, Shun, and Yuto have already pledged themselves to the mission. Barrett and Serena as well. The question is—what about the rest of you?"
A hush settled over the group. The weight of the question hung in the air, heavy and solemn.
It was Sawatari who broke the silence, stepping forward with a rare, serious expression replacing his usual bravado. "Well, someone has to keep this team stylish. Count me in." He crossed his arms, giving Ryuki a firm nod. "If Academia thinks they can push us around, they've got another thing coming."
Ashley followed right after him. "I accept too. If I have the power to help, I won't stand aside. Not after everything we've learned."
Their declarations stirred something in the others. Gongenzaka planted his feet firmly, his booming voice ringing with pride. "As Yuya's steadfast friend, I cannot stand idle while Academia wreaks havoc across dimensions! My Manly Spirit will blaze alongside you all! I join as well!"
Dennis raised a hand with his usual cheerful grin, though there was an edge of sincerity in his eyes. "Count me in. It's time I stopped running and started making things right."
Yugo grinned fiercely. "I'm not sitting this one out either. They'll regret chasing us around Tops!"
Yuri smirked faintly, though his eyes burned with a deeper resolve. "They broke me once. Never again. I have a bone to pick with Academia—put me on the front lines."
One by one, more duelists stepped forward. Aichi, Christopher, Kenji, Kazuma, Kazumi, Satoru, and Emi all nodded in unison. Aichi spoke for them all. "Gastille is still out there... and he's working with Academia. We can't stand by. As representatives of our world, we'll join you—and ensure an alliance between our dimensions."
Fubuki stepped forward next, his gaze solemn but unwavering. "I'll come too. Academia needs to be liberated from the corruption festering within it. I'll see it returned to the ideals it once stood for."
Yuzu clutched her duel disk to her chest and nodded firmly. "I'll join too." But then her eyes shifted toward Yuya, concern flickering in her gaze. "What about you, Yuya?"
All eyes turned to him. Yuya stood still, his head lowered, fingers curled into trembling fists. It was clear he'd been wrestling with his thoughts this entire time. Finally, he looked up at Ryuki and Reiji, determination blazing in his eyes despite the uncertainty in his heart.
"Before I decide," Yuya said firmly, "I want to know something. I need to know if my Entertainment Dueling is strong enough—strong enough to face what's coming. And there's only one person who can answer that for me."
His gaze locked on Ryuki. "I challenge you to a duel."
The declaration sent a ripple of surprise through the group. Murmurs rose among the gathered duelists; Yuya's sudden challenge was the last thing they expected. Even Yuzu gasped softly, eyes wide.
Ryuki arched an eyebrow, meeting Yuya's determined gaze. "You want to duel me? Why?"
"Because," Yuya said without hesitation, "you're the strongest duelist that I can think of aside from Reiji. If my style of dueling can't even stand against you, then how can I protect anyone? I need to know—right here, right now."
For a long moment, Ryuki simply studied him. Then, slowly, he nodded. "I see. You're serious about this."
Yuya's eyes hardened. "More than ever."
"Very well," Ryuki said with a faint smile. "I accept."
The air shifted, the tension electrifying. Ryuki turned toward Reiji. "I'll need authorization to project an Action Field."
Reiji, understanding the importance of this duel, gave a simple nod. "Permission granted."
Ryuki raised his duel disk high. "Then let's give everyone a show."
He slammed the disk down as his voice rang out with commanding authority. "Action Field—Dragon Empire, activate!"
A surge of light enveloped the area. The ground trembled as the urban road beneath their feet shimmered and transformed. Towers of crimson stone erupted skyward, morphing into the grand architecture of an ancient dragon kingdom. The city became an imperial capital where dragon statues lined the streets, their eyes gleaming like molten rubies.
Behind Ryuki, a colossal scarlet castle rose into view, its spires piercing the heavens. It radiated a sense of power and authority—the heart of the Dragon Empire itself. Around them, phantom Dragonmen peeked from windows, their scales glistening, while massive dragons soared above, letting out thunderous roars that echoed across the transformed battlefield.
Gasps escaped from nearly everyone present. "It feels... real," Yuzu whispered, awestruck.
But Ryuki wasn't finished.
He slipped a ring onto his finger—a band of gold set with a crimson ruby. As he tapped it against his duel disk, he spoke words like an incantation, his voice resonating with unyielding power.
"Let these purgatorial crimson flames be the arbiter of your actions...
Blaze forth, and incinerate all to ash—
Perdition Blaze Prison!"
With a sweeping motion of his hand, a surge of crimson fire ignited around the Action Field's perimeter. A massive ring of flames erupted skyward, enclosing the battlefield in a blazing barrier. The scorching heat licked at the edges of the arena, a visceral reminder of what was at stake.
The duelists watching could hardly breathe. It was as though Ryuki's world had fully manifested here; the Dragon Empire itself stood as witness to this duel.
Ryuki's voice cut through the crackle of the flames. "If you want to use Action Cards, Yuya, you're free to do so. But know this—I'll be going all out from the very start. If you want to stand a chance, throw everything you have at me."
Yuya's lips curled into a determined smile. "That's exactly what I plan to do."
Both duelists raised their duel disks in unison, their voices ringing out together.
"DUEL!"
Yuya: 8000 | Hand: 5
Ryuki: 8000 | Hand: 5
The Monarch's Challenge had officially begun.
Turn 1 – Yuya
The battlefield was no ordinary arena; it pulsed with a blistering heat that rolled through the air like the breath of a slumbering volcano. Flames shimmered faintly across the perimeter, licking the edges of reality itself. Even though none of the spectators were directly involved in the duel, the oppressive aura radiating from Ryuki's presence was enough to make everyone sweat.
"What the heck is going on?!" Yugo exclaimed, wiping his forehead with the back of his sleeve. The usually energetic duelist winced at the tangible warmth, as though the flames were trying to crawl beneath his skin. "It feels like we're in a furnace! What did Ryuki just do?"
Aichi's expression hardened. His calm, composed demeanor stood in stark contrast to Yugo's unease, yet his words carried a grim weight. "We're inside Ryuki-kun's Prison."
Everyone turned toward him, eyes wide. Fubuki, ever the one to seek clarification, tilted his head. "Prison? What do you mean by that?"
Aichi drew in a slow breath, his voice lowering as if speaking the words aloud brought back painful memories. "After the Link Joker invasion in our world, I... carried the darkness of Link Joker inside me. When I defeated their leader, it didn't simply vanish—it lodged itself within me. To prevent that darkness from spreading or consuming anyone else, I isolated myself from the world. I created the Quatre Knights—four of the strongest fighters across the globe—to keep everyone away."
His gaze shifted to Ryuki, then to the shimmering flames surrounding the dueling platform. "That ring Ryuki activated? It's the same technique the Quatre Knights and I used. A Prison. It seals both duelists inside a battlefield forged from their own element. But it's more than a flashy stage. Here, every blow a duelist takes... you feel it. Every point of damage is mirrored as real pain."
His voice trailed off for a moment, heavy with memories of another time, another battle. The tension that followed was palpable, the heat around them almost secondary compared to the weight of his revelation.
Shun crossed his arms, his usual stoic demeanor cracking slightly as he grimaced. "Yeah, I've been there. I remember when Ryuki challenged me. I thought I could handle it. When I lost, it felt like I was burning alive."
The color drained slightly from some of the onlookers' faces. The idea of a duel becoming not just a contest of skill but a literal battle for endurance sent a chill down their spines, despite the searing heat.
Yuya's eyes narrowed, his normally cheerful expression giving way to caution. The playful entertainer was still there, but now he wore the focused mask of a duelist who understood the stakes. If what Aichi said was true, this duel wouldn't just be about protecting his Life Points—it was about protecting himself from genuine harm.
I can't afford to slip up. Every move counts here, Yuya thought as he drew his opening card.
He raised his duel disk with renewed resolve. "I'll start us off! Draw!"
The card slid into his hand with a crisp snap. Without missing a beat, Yuya thrust two cards forward. "I set the Pendulum Scale with Scale 4, Entermate Trump Witch, and Scale 8, Synthesis Magician! Let's liven up the stage!"
As the cards locked into his Pendulum Zones, two streaks of shimmering energy erupted onto the field. On one side, a young witch materialized. She wore a patched blue dress, her blonde twin-tails bouncing as she spun her staff topped with a tiny skull. Her mischievous grin radiated the classic Entermate charm.

On the opposite side of the field, a serene figure took shape. A woman draped in soft pink and orange robes emerged, her hood shadowing her face. A silver eyepatch concealed her right eye, but her left gleamed with quiet determination. She held a slender crimson bow, the twin-pronged arrow poised elegantly at her side.

"With my scales set," Yuya announced, his voice echoing with theatrical flair despite the sweat forming on his brow, "I can summon monsters from Level 5 to 8 all at once! Now, watch closely! Swing, Pendulum of my soul! Draw an arc of light across the ether and carve the path to victory! Pendulum Summon!"
Two portals opened above the battlefield, glowing in synchronization with his Pendulum Scales. From them, twin beams of radiant energy descended.
"Come forth! Magician of Astromancy! Entermate Mammosplash! Make your grand debut!"
The first to appear was a mysterious figure clad in pristine white robes, his face hidden behind a veil of cloth. He carried a staff that resembled a star-shaped compass, its points gleaming faintly with cosmic energy. His presence felt calm yet otherworldly, like he could read the constellations of fate itself.

Beside him, a playful roar echoed as a massive woolly mammoth waddled onto the stage. Its violet fur bristled with energy, a bright blue balloon tied jauntily to its trunk, emblazoned with a golden star. Despite its size, it exuded a lighthearted aura that brought a brief smile back to Yuya's face.

Both monsters took defensive stances, crouching low as the oppressive heat shimmered around them. Yuya exhaled slowly, regaining his composure. "I'll play it safe for now. I set my monsters in defense and end my turn!"
The moment he declared it, a hush fell over the battlefield. Everyone's gaze shifted to Ryuki, waiting to see how the infamous Flame Monarch would respond.
Yuya's Life Points remained untouched, but his cautious play spoke volumes. He wasn't here to put on a reckless show; he was here to survive and outwit an opponent whose very aura felt like it could scorch him alive.

Ryuki: 8000 LP | Hand: 5
Turn 2 – Ryuki
The oppressive heat from the Prison intensified as the turn shifted to Ryuki. The flames that surrounded the dueling arena flickered higher, as if responding to his resolve. He no longer wore the relaxed grin that sometimes softened his fearsome presence. His eyes narrowed, his expression sharpened into one of grim focus.
"Atashi no turn! Draw!" Ryuki's voice cracked like thunder through the burning air. In this duel, there would be no half-measures. The joking, flamboyant "Mr. Nice Guy" persona was gone. What stood across from Yuya now was the Ryuki that other duelists feared—the warrior who dueled to win, no matter the cost.
He glanced at his draw and smirked. "I discard two cards from my hand and activate the Spell Card—Overlord Fusion!"
The card shimmered on his Duel Disk, and the moment its name was spoken, an audible reaction rippled through the spectators.
Yuzu's eyes widened in alarm. "He's activating that card immediately?!"
Her voice trembled, betraying the memory of how devastating that card had been in past duels. Gongenzaka stood with his arms crossed, yet his brow furrowed.
Serena, ever curious but less familiar with Ryuki's full power, tilted her head. "What's so terrifying about that card? It's just a Fusion Spell, right?"
Gongenzaka's reply was heavy with the weight of experience. "It's better if you see it for yourself. Trust me, being on the receiving end of Overlord Fusion... it's not something you forget."
On the battlefield, Ryuki's eyes gleamed with a predator's focus. "Overlord Fusion lets me conduct a Fusion Summon using monsters directly from my hand by Special Summoning them first! The catch? Their ATK and DEF become zero, and their effects are negated. But that won't matter... because they won't be staying for long."
He slammed three cards onto his Duel Disk. "Rally to me, my dragons! Dragonic Overlord 'The X'! Dragonic Overlord the End! And my avatar—Dragonic Overlord!"
Three colossal flame pillars erupted around Ryuki. Within the blazing columns, shapes took form—then emerged with a deafening trio of roars. The sky itself seemed to quake as three dragons landed behind Ryuki, their blazing eyes fixed on Yuya.

Though their stats were reduced to zero, their presence alone radiated such ferocity that Yuya felt his stomach knot. He was staring down the legends of the Dragon Empire.
Ryuki's voice rang out like a warlord issuing a command. "Now! I fuse my Dragonic Overlord. Dragonic Overlord "The X" and Dragonic Overlord The End!"
The scarlet castle that loomed behind Ryuki groaned and opened its massive gates. The three dragons let out bone-shaking roars and soared into the burning maw of the fortress. As the gates slammed shut, a red aura enveloped the entire structure, making the very air quiver.
Ryuki raised his hand skyward, his voice taking on an almost ritualistic cadence:
"Blazing heavens and roaring earth, kneel before the wrath of the supreme emperor! With the flames of dominion and the fangs of annihilation, all shall burn in divine judgment!"
The scarlet gates burst open. A blinding eruption of flame exploded outward as an enormous dragon descended, its wings stretching wide enough to blot out the battlefield's light. Its scales glistened like molten steel; its claws dripped with burning fury. This was no mere dragon—it was an emperor, a god of flame.
"Fusion Summon! Descend and purge the battlefield! Level 12—Supreme Heavenly Emperor Dragon, Dragonic Overlord 'THE PURGE!'"
The moment The Purge landed, the flames in the arena roared higher, as though bowing to their master. The residents of the Dragon Empire, watching from afar, let out roars of exultation. One of their greatest champions had been summoned.

ATK: 5000 / DEF: 4000
Gasps filled the spectator stands.
"He summoned a monster with 5000 ATK—on turn two?!" Sawatari's jaw nearly hit the ground.
Kenji threw his head back and howled with laughter. "Hahahaha! Ryuki's not holding back at all! He just called out a G-Unit this early—Yuya's in deep trouble!"
Even Reiji's usually stoic demeanor faltered; his glasses slipped slightly down his nose. "If Ryuki had used this level of power when he and I dueled... I might not have survived. This is on a completely different scale."
Yuya's heart thudded in his chest. He had faced tough opponents before, but the sight of The Purge—its guns primed, its roar shaking the arena—was unlike anything he'd seen. And judging by Ryuki's expression, the dragon's power was only the beginning.
"Let's get started," Ryuki said, his voice calm but lethal. "I activate The Purge's skill! Once per turn, I can target one monster you control. You'll take damage equal to 200 times its Level. I choose your Magician of Astromancy! That's 1000 points straight to you!"
"The Purge's" shoulder-mounted cannons locked onto Yuya's Magician. With a deafening blast, a hailstorm of fiery bullets rained down. Yuya barely had time to brace himself before the explosions erupted around him, the heat and shockwaves searing through his body.
Yuya: 8000 → 7000
"Yuya!" Yuzu screamed as she watched him stumble and fall from the onslaught, clutching his chest. The pain wasn't imaginary—Aichi's warning about the Prison was proving horrifyingly true.
Ryuki's tone was almost mocking. "You're lucky, Yuya. Because I used Dragonic Overlord itself as Fusion Material, The Purge would've gained an extra 1000 ATK if its ability wasn't negated. You'd already be halfway buried if that were the case."
Yuya swallowed hard. If Ryuki was telling the truth—and Yuya had no reason to doubt him—then even this terrifying display wasn't the full extent of The Purge's might.
"Battle," Ryuki declared. "Let me explain what's about to happen to you, Yuya. For every Flame Dragon Fusion monster in my graveyard, "The Purge" gains an additional attack. That's three extra attacks, plus its initial one—four total. And when "The Purge" declares an attack, I get to draw and reveal the top three cards of my deck. For every monster revealed, "The Purge" gains 500 ATK."
Reiji's eyes widened slightly, calculating in his mind. "Four potential attacks if he counts the initial strike... Yuya only has two monsters. He's completely exposed."
Christopher, silent until now, pulled his hood over his head. "And don't forget the Triple Drive. Ryuki's hand advantage is going to explode."
Ryuki's claws danced over his deck. "Triple Drive!" He revealed all three cards. Trap. Trap. Trap. A small chuckle escaped his lips. "No power boost, but that's fine. I don't need it."
He pointed toward Yuya's field. "'The Purge!' Burning Desperado!"
The Emperor Dragon roared, unleashing an inferno of gunfire. Yuya's eyes darted wildly around the burning battlefield. I can't block all of this head-on. I need an Action Card, or I'm done!
He spotted one glowing faintly atop a nearby lamp post. Adrenaline surged through him as he sprinted toward it, the battlefield erupting around him. He barely managed to snatch the card before a hail of bullets tore through Entermate Mammosplash, reducing it to flaming shards.
"Just one attack negated—that's all I need," Yuya muttered under his breath, clutching the card as Magician of Astromancy was blasted apart next. The third volley of gunfire redirected—this time aimed straight at him. The raw force of The Purge's cannons threatened to tear through him.
"Ten thousand worth of damage... coming straight for you," Ryuki said coldly.
Yuya's fingers trembled but he roared back, "Action Magic! Flame Barrier! When a monster attacks, I cut all damage in half! And that's not all! I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Entermate Bubble! Since an Entermate was destroyed and I took damage during damage calculation, I reduce the incoming damage by Mammosplash's ATK! That's 1900 less! Which means... I'll only take 3100! G-GAAHHHHH!!!"
The attack still struck like a meteor. Yuya's body was hurled backward, slamming into the side of a burning building. Smoke and sparks erupted where he hit. He slid down to the ground, gasping for breath, his body screaming in pain.
Yuya: 7000 → 3900
The spectators fell silent. This wasn't a duel anymore—it was a warzone. Even those familiar with Ryuki's power looked uneasy. And this was just the second turn.
Yuzu clutched her fists. "This is insane... How can Yuya keep going through that?!"
Aichi remained grim, his eyes locked on Yuya. "He asked for this. And Ryuki-kun's not the type to go easy on someone who knows what's at stake."
Ryuki, unfazed, casually set three cards face-down. "I'll end my turn."
The field was now a scorched wasteland. Yuya knelt, catching his breath, his body trembling but his spirit unbroken. Across from him, Ryuki stood tall, his Emperor Dragon looming like a god of war, with three face-down cards ready to unleash hell at a moment's notice.
Yuya: 3900 | Hand: 1
Ryuki: 8000 | Hand: 3
Turn 3 - Yuya
Yuya groaned as he pushed himself off the cracked pavement, his knees trembling. The scorching aura of Dragonic Overlord "The Purge" still pressed down on him like a furnace, the residual heat distorting the air. Every muscle screamed from the earlier impact when he was blasted against the building, but the sight of the towering crimson emperor-dragon above Ryuki made it clear—he couldn't falter.
His fingers clenched his Duel Disk as his ragged breathing echoed. "Ryuki wasn't kidding... he said he'd go all out, and he meant it." Yuya thought grimly, sweat sliding down his temple. Half my LP gone in one turn. If I can't get rid of "The Purge" now, this duel will be over before I can show everyone what Entertainment Dueling really means.
Across the battlefield, Ryuki stood calm, his coat fluttering lightly in the oppressive heat radiating from his monster. His piercing gaze didn't waver; the flame-lit reflection in his eyes made him look almost draconic himself. Behind him, the scarlet fortress loomed, its gates still glowing from The Purge's earlier summoning.
"Yuya..." Yuzu whispered, clutching her chest from the sidelines. She could feel the fear in her throat as she watched him stumble, his usual cheerful demeanor subdued into tight-lipped determination.
Even Gongenzaka's voice, usually booming, carried unease. "That attack nearly crushed him. If Yuya doesn't pull off something drastic here, it won't matter how spirited he is. Ryuki's field is... relentless."
Yuya shut out the voices around him and focused. He looked at his empty monster zones—only his Pendulum Scales remained active. Across the field, The Purge's flaming wings unfolded like a predator preparing to strike again, with Ryuki's three set cards waiting like hidden fangs. Every instinct told Yuya he was cornered, yet his grip tightened.
Even if I lose... I'll make him bring out everything he has. My deck, help me one more time. Let me put on a show worth watching.
"My turn!" Yuya shouted, his voice carrying above the crackling flames. "Draw!"
The moment his fingers brushed the top of his deck, a faint glow seemed to pulse across the card. His eyes widened. It answered me!
"I activate the Spell Card—Pendulum Draw!" Yuya slapped the card into his Duel Disk, his voice regaining its fire. "Since my Pendulum Scales are set with Trump Witch at Scale 4 and Synthesis Magician at Scale 8, I can draw cards equal to the difference between their scales! That's three cards!"
The Pendulum Scales flared brilliantly, sending a beam of prismatic light into Yuya's deck. Three cards slid into his hand, and his grin returned, small but defiant. "And now, it's showtime!"
"Pendulum Summon! From my Extra Deck, return to the stage—Magician of Astromancy! Entermate Mammosplash! And from my hand, come forth! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
A surge of energy spiraled overhead, two radiant arcs crossing the sky like twin spotlights. From the beams descended Yuya's trusted monsters—his masked astrologer, the balloon-nosed mammoth, and finally the dragon that carried his dream, Odd-Eyes, whose heterochromatic eyes glowed like twin suns.

The crowd of onlookers gasped with renewed excitement. Even battered, Yuya's summons carried flair; his duel style still carried the heart of a performer.
"And I'm just getting started!" Yuya thrust another card forward. "I Normal Summon Entermate Bot-Eyes Lizard!"
With a swirl of confetti, a comical violet lizard appeared, tipping its tophat while twirling a tiny umbrella. Its flamboyant entrance contrasted sharply with the oppressive battlefield, bringing a spark of levity for a brief moment.

But Yuya's tone hardened. "Now, I activate Mammosplash's effect! Once per turn, I can Fusion Summon without a Fusion Spell, by banishing it as material!"
The purple mammoth trumpeted, inflating its star-marked balloon as Odd-Eyes crouched low beside it.
"I fuse Mammosplash with Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" A swirling vortex of multicolored light opened above Yuya's head as the two monsters leapt into it.
"Dragon with dual-colored eyes, combine with the arctic behemoth to bring forth a feral storm! Fusion Summon! Level 8—Ferocious Dragon with luminous feral eyes, Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
From the vortex emerged a savage variant of Odd-Eyes—its body armored with bony plates, its fur rippling with power, a third feral eye gleaming from its brow. Its roar was primal, shaking the prison's walls.

"Not bad," Ryuki muttered under his breath, still calm, though a flicker of interest crossed his face.
"And I'm not done yet!" Yuya's voice rang out with building momentum. "Magician of Astromancy's effect activates! Whenever a Pendulum Monster leaves my field, I can Special Summon it back! Return, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Odd-Eyes reappeared in a swirl of cosmic light, standing proud beside Beast-Eyes.
"Next—Trump Witch's Pendulum Effect! Once per turn, I can Fusion Summon using the monsters on my field! I fuse Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon with Magician of Astromancy!"
Both monsters rose into a swirling vortex, the magician floating above the dragon as runes spiraled around them.
"Wielder of mysterious power, shine as the guiding eye of the dragon! Fusion Summon! Come forth Level 8! Arcane Dragon wielder of ancient magic, Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Another variant of Odd-Eyes appeared, this one more mystical, adorned with a massive ring-like crest and glowing arcane seals etched along its wings.

Even Reiji's eyes narrowed slightly, impressed despite himself. "Two powerful Fusion Dragons in a single sequence... and he's not finished."
Yuya pointed dramatically at Bot-Eyes. "Then I activate Entermate Bot-Eyes Lizard's effect! Once per turn, I can declare the name of an Odd-Eyes monster and have it treated as that monster! The name I choose is—Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
The little lizard shimmered, its form warping until another Odd-Eyes stood on Yuya's field.
"And now, I activate the spell card—Pendulum Fusion! With this I can use the monsters in my Pendulum Zones as material!" Yuya's voice rose higher with every word, the energy of the duel surging back in his favor. "I fuse Entermate Bot-Eyes Lizard that is treated as Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon on my field and Entermate Trump Witch from my Pendulum Zone!"
The witch and lizard vanished into the vortex, a storm of emerald light erupting across Yuya's field.
"Dragon with heterochromatic eyes, fuse with the mistress of illusions and command the very winds! Fusion Summon! Come forth—Level 7! Dragon that rules the tempests, Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon!"
From the cyclone emerged another Odd-Eyes evolution, sleek and deadly, its body streamlined with jet-like wings humming with wind energy. Its roar cut through the flames, shaking the battlefield with a gale.

From the sidelines, Sawatari let out a stunned laugh. "He's bringing out Fusion Dragons like a magic trick! Beast-Eyes, Rune-Eyes, and Vortex—all at once?!"
Even Ryuki's stoic demeanor shifted, his lips curling into a faint smirk. "So you do have some bite. Good. Show me more."
Yuya stood tall despite his bruises, his field now gleaming with three formidable Fusion Dragons, each radiating power in their own element. His deck had answered, and the show was far from over.
"So, you managed to summon three Fusion monsters in a single turn," Ryuki remarked with a composed smile, his voice carrying both pride and challenge. "Impressive, Yuya."
Yuya's chest heaved slightly from the effort, but there was a spark of determination in his eyes. "Yeah, well... after all the insane training you put me through, I had to pull it off sooner or later," he replied with a smirk. "And honestly, without Yuzu and Sora pushing me forward, I wouldn't have been able to do it."
Ryuki raised a curious brow at the mention of Sora. "Even after Sora openly admitted that he remains loyal to Academia, you still consider him a friend?" His tone held no malice, only genuine interest in Yuya's conviction.
Yuya's expression softened. "I know the Sora we care about is still in there. He's not just a soldier—he's our friend. When the time comes, I'll face him, and I'll bring him back if I have to."
For a brief moment, Ryuki said nothing, simply watching Yuya with a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. The sincerity in Yuya's voice reminded him why he'd invested so much into this boy's growth. "You really are one of a kind," Ryuki admitted at last. His eyes narrowed slightly, and the air around him seemed to thrum with intensity. "But tell me, Yuya—will that resolve of yours be enough to stand against this? Against the power of 'The Purge' staring you down?"
Yuya's gaze locked onto the fearsome dragon before him—Dragonic Overlord "The Purge," its blazing armor radiating waves of heat and its molten wings casting a hellish glow across the field. The Entermate duelist clenched his fists and raised his voice, unwavering. "I'll find a way to beat that monster of yours, no matter what!"
A sharp grin crossed Ryuki's face. "Then bring it."
"Gladly!" Yuya drew himself up and shouted, "I activate Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon's effect! When it's Special Summoned, I can target one of your face-up attack position monsters and send it back to your hand. I target Dragonic Overlord 'The Purge'! And since it's an Extra Deck monster, it'll return straight to your Extra Deck!"
Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon roared, whipping up a spiraling gale. Its wings glowed with radiant energy as a surge of wind erupted toward The Purge, aiming to banish the fiery overlord from the battlefield. For a moment, the vortex swirled with overwhelming force, and some of the spectators even shielded their faces from the gale.
But Ryuki didn't flinch. He raised his hand calmly, his voice cutting through the storm like a blade. "Nice try, Yuya, but that won't be enough. When Dragonic Overlord 'The Purge' is Fusion Summoned using an original Dragonic Overlord as material, it becomes unaffected by your opponent's card effects!"
The blazing overlord flared its molten wings with a deafening roar, dispersing the wind with sheer force. Yuya's gambit failed, leaving The Purge firmly in place, its flaming eyes glaring down at him like a predator watching its prey.
Yuya clicked his tongue. "Tch... then I'll have to push even further! I activate the Spell Card, Treasure Cards from the Heavens! This lets both of us draw until we each have six cards in hand!"
The duel disk lights flashed as Yuya added five new cards, replenishing his options, while Ryuki calmly drew three more.
Yuya's hand shot forward again. "Next, I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Odd-Eyes Blessing! I target one of my Pendulum Dragon monsters on the field—Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! It won't be able to attack this turn, but all of its ATK will transfer to Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon until the end phase!"
A surge of energy pulsed through Beast-Eyes as its aura flared and streamed into Rune-Eyes. The crystal shards embedded in Rune-Eyes' armor glowed like miniature suns as its strength skyrocketed.
Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
ATK: 3000 → 6000
The sheer pressure from the empowered dragon's roar made the ground beneath Yuya tremble. The sudden spike in power sent a ripple of awe across the field.
"Six... thousand?!" Rin's eyes widened in shock, unable to hide her excitement. "Now Rune-Eyes has more attack power than Ryuki's dragon!"
"Go, Yuya!" Gongenzaka bellowed, his booming voice full of unshakable faith in his best friend. He cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted even louder, "Show Ryuki your spirit! Prove to him what the Entertainment Duelist can really do!!"
Yuya spared a small, grateful smile toward his steadfast friend before turning back to face his mentor. His heart pounded, adrenaline coursing through him. This was it—the kind of moment he had always dreamed of, the kind of duel where stakes and emotions collided. He raised his arm dramatically, his duel disk gleaming under the arena lights.
"Ryuki!" he shouted, his voice echoing. "This is the strength you helped me build! And I'm going to use it to take one step closer to saving everyone—no matter how strong you are!"
Ryuki's sharp grin widened, his eyes gleaming with fierce pride. He could feel it—Yuya's spirit burning brighter than ever before. "Good," Ryuki said softly, almost to himself, as the blazing Purge loomed over him. "Then let me see it, Yuya. Show me the full brilliance of your resolve."
"Battle! Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, attack Supreme Heavenly Emperor Dragon, Dragonic Overlord 'The Purge'! And at this time, I activate Rune-Eyes' effect!" Yuya's voice rang with determination, his arm extended as his dragon's eyes glimmered with mystical light. "When I use a Level 5 or higher Spellcaster-type monster for its Fusion Summon, Rune-Eyes can attack three times this turn!"
Gasps rippled through the spectators.
"If Yuya-kun connects all three attacks—" Aichi's eyes widened as he calculated the damage.
"—Ryuki-kun will lose!" Emi finished for him, her voice rising in alarm. The weight of the duel was now apparent to everyone.
Rune-Eyes' rings lit up, three radiant spheres orbiting its frame as its body surged with raw arcane energy.
"Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Infinity Shining Burst!" Yuya commanded.
With a mighty leap, Rune-Eyes unleashed a beam of concentrated arcane light. The first attack collided with The Purge, shattering the mighty emperor dragon in a blinding explosion of light and flame.
Ryuki: 8000 → 7000
Smoke billowed from the impact as Ryuki steadied himself. His cloak rippled in the aftermath. Beneath his breath, in a tone so low no one could hear, he muttered, "Four Fusion Monsters... now in the graveyard."
Across the field, Yugo clenched his fists. "Ryuki's wide open now! Yuya can finish him!"
"Rune-Eyes! Direct attack!" Yuya shouted without hesitation.
Rune-Eyes fired its second shimmering blast directly toward Ryuki. The arcane beam struck him head-on. Ryuki's body was hurled backward from the sheer force, the crowd gasping, but the monarch displayed unyielding poise. Mid-flight, he gripped a hanging chain by the castle's moat, using its momentum to swing and absorb the recoil. Landing in a crouch near the moat's edge, he twisted his shoulder and steadied himself, eyes never leaving Yuya.
Ryuki: 7000 → 1000
"One more attack and he's done," Fubuki said flatly, arms crossed. Even his calm voice carried tension.
Yuri, however, smirked faintly, eyes sharp. "No... Ryuki doesn't go down that easily. He's got another move waiting. He always does."
Rune-Eyes prepared its final strike, energy surging brighter than before. Yuya pointed decisively. "Rune-Eyes, finish this duel!"
The dragon unleashed its third attack, a blazing torrent of mystic energy racing toward Ryuki. But at that crucial moment, the monarch's deep voice echoed across the field:
"When a monster declares an attack, I can Special Summon this card from my hand! Appear—Perdition Dragon, Rampart Dragon! Perfect Guard!"
A flash of crimson fire erupted beside Ryuki. Out of the blaze emerged a humanoid dragon clad in charred-red armor, wielding a massive, glowing shield. It thrust the shield forward, intercepting Rune-Eyes' deadly attack.
Perdition Dragon, Rampart Dragon
Level 4 / FIRE / Flame Dragon / Effect
ATK: 0 / DEF: 2500
"Rampart Dragon's skill activates! As long as you control more monsters than I do, it cannot be destroyed by battle!" Ryuki declared firmly.
Rampart Dragon let out a roar as it swung its shield upward. The deflected beam shot harmlessly into the sky, exploding in a dazzling arc of light.
Gasps of disbelief filled the air.
"He... he stopped it!" Yuzu exclaimed, relief washing over her.
"But why now?" Serena muttered, brows furrowed. "He could have summoned it earlier and saved himself all that damage. Why wait until his LP dropped so low?"
Aichi's eyes narrowed as he pieced the puzzle together. "Wait... his Life Points are at 1000." His voice lowered as realization dawned. "He's planning for a Limit Break. That's why he took the hit—he's setting up for something devastating next turn."
On the field, Yuya clicked his tongue softly, aware of Ryuki's deliberate strategy but having done all he could. "Tch... I pushed as hard as I could this turn." He steadied himself, raising one card. "I set one card face-down and end my turn. At this time, Rune-Eyes' ATK returns to normal."
A single set card shimmered into place on Yuya's field. The tension in the air only grew heavier, as if everyone sensed the storm Ryuki was preparing to unleash.
Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
ATK: 6000 → 3000
"At the end of your turn," Ryuki said with a calm edge, "Rampart Dragon returns to my deck. And when it does... I draw one card."
Rampart Dragon's body turned into crimson embers, swirling back into Ryuki's deck. He drew his next card with deliberate grace, his gaze unwavering as he slid it into his hand.
"Draw."
The silent anticipation from the audience was palpable. Yugo bit his lip. "This is bad... if Aichi's right about that Limit Break—"
"Then Yuya-kun's about to be in serious trouble," Aichi finished grimly.
The field stood still, the duel now at a razor's edge.
Yuya: 3900 | Hand: 4
Ryuki: 1000 | Hand: 6
Turn 4 – Ryuki
"Atashi no turn... draw!"
Ryuki's voice carried across the duel field with a calm authority that sent an unexpected chill through the spectators. As his fingers slid across his deck and drew his card, his sharp gaze settled on Yuya. The tension in the air thickened.
"Your turn was impressive, Yuya," Ryuki remarked, his tone oddly measured, almost conversational. "Though there were some holes in your plays. It was a good move nonetheless. Had you a card that could negate Rampart Dragon's ability, the duel could've ended last turn. But hey..." He smirked faintly, almost teasing. "...we can't always have everything we want, right?"
Yuya blinked, taken aback by the calm analysis. He hadn't expected Ryuki to acknowledge his play so directly. But the flicker of relief was quickly crushed by Ryuki's next words.
"Still," Ryuki continued, his eyes narrowing with a quiet, burning resolve, "dropping my Life Points to 1000 last turn... will cost you greatly."
Yuya's breath caught. His mind raced as he recalled Ryuki's field and graveyard. That ominous statement...
"You don't mean—" Yuya began, dread rising.
"Oh, I do," Ryuki interrupted sharply, his voice cutting like a blade. "And I'll show you right now! I activate my Spell Card—Яe-birth Fusion!"
The crowd gasped.
"With this, I can Fusion Summon by sending Fusion Monsters from my hand, deck or Extra Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of required materials. No need for monsters on my field at all!" Ryuki declared, his hand thrusting forward. "I send Dragonic Overlord "The Destiny," Dragonic Overlord "The Legend," and Supreme Heavenly Emperor Dragon, Dragonic Overlord "The Ace" from my Extra Deck to the Graveyard!"
The declaration thundered across the stadium. Three holographic images of mighty dragons dissolved into crimson shards and were pulled into a swirling black vortex.
Even Reiji, stoic and calculating as ever, felt his composure falter. His eyes widened a fraction.
"Did he just... send three Fusion Monsters? That casually?" Ashley muttered among the spectators.
"How many Fusion Monsters does Ryuki even have in his Graveyard now?" Ruri asked, anxiety edging her voice.
Shun's eyes narrowed as he answered, gaze fixed on Ryuki's unflinching form. "Seven so far. I don't know what he's planning, but..." His voice lowered, heavy with unease. "Something tells me he's holding a card—or a power—that none of us fully understand."
As Ryuki completed his declaration, an unnatural ripple spread across the field. A dark, suffocating aura began to emanate from him. The sky above the duel seemed to dim, the light bending under a pressure that made everyone's chests feel heavier. Scarlet-red markings, jagged and rune-like, began to sear into existence beneath Ryuki's eyes, glowing with malevolent energy.
Aichi's face drained of color. His voice trembled as he stepped forward. "No... it can't be..."
Emi clasped her hands over her mouth, tears pooling in her eyes. "Ryuki-kun... no... not you. You can't..." Her voice cracked with anguish; her fiancé, the man she trusted above all, was showing the unmistakable signs of corruption.
Even Yuya, who tried to stay upbeat even under pressure, felt a chill coil in his spine. That aura—it wasn't just overwhelming, it was suffocating.
From the sidelines, Yuri of all people muttered with rare unease, his usual smirk absent. "So... this is the Яeverse you all kept talking about?" His voice was low, edged with both fascination and fear. "I can feel it from here. It's... terrifying."
Christopher's fists clenched tightly, his jaw rigid. "Yes. This is what happens when you wield a Яeverse card," he said grimly. "It corrupts you, body and soul. Who would've thought Ryuki, of all people, had a legitimate one..."
Ryuki, however, seemed almost serene in his corruption, as if the darkness was merely an extension of himself rather than an outside influence. His voice deepened, taking on a chilling, resonant echo as he began to chant:
"Flames tainted black, hope devoured by despair...
Chains of darkness bind all beneath my dominion...
Now, let the world bow before the absolute ruler of ruin!
Fusion Summon! Descend, Level 11! Tyrant dragon that embraced the power of the void! Dragonic Overlord — The Яe-birth!"
The ground trembled as a pillar of dark crimson flames erupted before Ryuki, licking the heavens with destructive heat. Within the roaring inferno, a silhouette formed—a towering humanoid dragon. Its body gleamed with crimson scales, its four arms encased in ornate black-and-gold armor etched with profane runes. Four blazing wings unfurled from its back, each feathered flame radiating ruinous power.
Twin cannons materialized in two of its clawed hands, while the other two gripped enormous flaming swords that seemed to scream with the agony of countless battles. A massive, obsidian ring engraved with pulsating crimson runes floated behind the dragon's back, spinning slowly like an unholy halo.
The monstrous presence stepped forward with a thunderous impact, the flames wreathing it exploding outward. Its roar split the air like a war cry of the apocalypse, shaking the city to its core.
Yuzu's eyes widened in terror. "What... what is that?"
Aichi's lips trembled. "It's... Dragonic Overlord, but... corrupted. Twisted." His voice lowered almost to a whisper. "The Яeverse has claimed it..."
Dragonic Overlord "The Яe-birth"
Level 11 / DARK / Flame Dragon / Fusion / Effect / Limit Break
ATK: 4000 / DEF: 4000
The raw power radiating from the creature was suffocating, but even more terrifying was the cold, merciless look in Ryuki's eyes as he stared Yuya down. His usual warmth and tactical calm were replaced with something darker—something absolute.
"Yuya," Ryuki said, his voice like smoldering embers, "you've entertained me well. But playtime... is over."
The field was now dominated by the towering overlord of flames and void. And as its roar echoed once more, every spectator knew: this duel had entered an entirely different level of danger.
At the sidelines, the atmosphere was thick with an almost tangible pressure. Yugo, Yuto, and Yuri's decks began to glow as their signature dragons manifested faintly above them, their bodies trembling and scales glistening with a strange, fearful luminescence. The brilliance of their forms clashed with the ominous radiance emanating from Ryuki's field.
"They're... afraid?" Yuto muttered, his voice uncharacteristically shaken as he watched Dark Rebellion's wings quiver, the mighty dragon recoiling from the sheer presence of Dragonic Overlord "The Яe-birth". It was as though a primal instinct warned them of a predator far beyond their comprehension.
"Calm down, Clear Wing! Hey, you hear me?!" Yugo shouted, reaching out desperately to his dragon. But no matter how much he tried to soothe it, Clear Wing writhed and screeched in panic, unable to resist the suffocating darkness pressing down on it.
"So this is... Ryuki's darkness," Yuri whispered, a sharp glint flashing across his eyes. Even he, who had danced with the abyss before, felt an involuntary chill crawl up his spine. The oppressive aura wasn't merely power—it was the embodiment of wrath tempered by purpose.
From the opposite side, Fubuki's fists clenched tightly at his sides. His own scars from Darkness's captivity flared in resonance; he knew this feeling all too well. To think Ryuki is bearing this willingly...
On the field, Ruri took a step forward, her face pale and her hands trembling. "Ryuki... are you... alright?" Her voice wavered with desperation; she had already lost too many people. She could not bear to lose him as well.
For a tense heartbeat, silence reigned—until Ryuki turned toward her. His expression softened, the corners of his lips lifting into a calm, reassuring smile that contrasted starkly with the malevolent dragon behind him. "I'm alright, Ruri... I'm just adjusting myself to the power of Яeverse." His tone was steady, unyielding. That single line was enough to make the Cardfighters—aside from Kazuma and Kazumi—release a collective sigh of relief. For now, the worst-case scenario had been averted.
Christopher, however, couldn't help but ask, his voice filled with astonishment. "How are you still in control? This level of darkness should have overwhelmed anyone..."
Ryuki's eyes narrowed slightly, a faint ember-like glow dancing within them. "I have someone to thank for that—my Zeroth Dragon. Drachma has been helping me keep the Яeverse in check."
Gasps rippled among the cardfighters. Even Aichi's normally composed expression faltered. A Zeroth Dragon not only aiding its user but actively suppressing a force as sinister as the Яeverse? It defied logic and expectation.
Without another word, Ryuki moved, his voice cutting sharply through the heavy tension. "I set two cards face-down." Two fresh cards slid into place on his field with a crisp snap. His spell and trap zones now brimmed with five face-down cards, each emanating a faint, sinister shimmer.
"And now," Ryuki declared, his voice rising with conviction, "second coming of the dragon of explosive flames—use your fiery roar to reduce all order to ash! Limit Break!"
The Яe-birth bellowed, its roar reverberating like a dragon god's decree. Above Ryuki, a crimson Vanguard Circle materialized, and the sound of glass shattering echoed ominously across the field. The air warped, as if reality itself trembled before the coming onslaught.
Kenji's eyes widened. "Here it comes... Ryuki's Limit Break. The real fight starts now."
Ryuki raised his arm, his command ringing out like thunder. "I lock all cards on my field! For every card locked, The Яe-birth gains 200 attack!"
One by one, his spells and traps locked, the symbols glowing a deep scarlet as chains of darkness entwined them. The surge of power flowed into his dragon.
Dragonic Overlord "The Яe-birth"
ATK: 4000 → 5000
"And that's not all," Ryuki continued, his tone taking on an almost ominous calm. "As long as Dragonic Overlord rests in my graveyard, The Яe-birth permanently gains an additional 500 attack."
Dragonic Overlord "The Яe-birth"
ATK: 5000 → 5500
He wasn't finished. "One more thing—when three or more cards are locked, you cannot activate spells or traps to negate this dragon's assault. And when there are five or more locked cards..." His lips curved upward. "This card can attack again."
The chilling revelation sent a ripple of panic across the spectators. Yuya's eyes widened. He didn't waste time questioning it; instead, he bolted, scanning the field desperately. I need Action Cards—anything to survive this!
"Battle!" Ryuki roared. "Overlord "The Яe-birth", annihilate Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon! Flame Apocalypse!!"
The massive dragon aimed its guns and unleashed a cataclysmic barrage of crimson bullets. The sheer concussive force shattered the air as the storm of flames barreled toward Yuya's monster.
But Yuya wasn't about to surrender. His fingers brushed against a glowing card embedded in the terrain. "Action Magic: Flaming Miracle! My monster might be destroyed, but I'll take only half the damage!"
Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon was obliterated, shards of its form dissipating into the void, but the miracle card blunted the worst of the impact.
Yuya: 3900 → 1400
Ryuki's voice boomed again, relentless. "The Яe-birth's skill—when this card attacks, I draw and check the top two cards of my deck. For each FIRE monster revealed, I gain 500 LP! Twin Drive!!"
He drew swiftly, revealing Perdition Dragon Knight, Sattar and Perdition Berserker, Preta. "Two FIRE monsters. That's 1000 life points to me."
Ryuki: 1000 → 2000
"And now, continue the attack! The Яe-birth, cut down Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
The dark dragon's swords blazed and swung with terrifying speed, cleaving toward Rune-Eyes. Yuya, sweat beading his brow, countered again.
"Trap open! Entermate Wall! By banishing an Entermate monster from my graveyard, all monsters with the same Level switch to defense! I banish Entermate Bot-Eyes Lizard!"
In a shimmer of light, both Rune-Eyes and Beast-Eyes shifted into defensive positions. Their shields were raised, but even then, Rune-Eyes couldn't withstand The Яe-birth's overwhelming might; the blade strike obliterated it in a fiery explosion.
Ryuki's eyes burned with intensity. "The Яe-birth's Limit Break—by discarding two cards, it stands once again! Awaken, Dragonic Overlord "The Яe-birth"!!"
The monstrous dragon rose from the smoke, roaring with renewed bloodlust. Without hesitation, it slashed through Yuya's remaining monster. With his defenses shattered, Yuya now stood completely exposed.
Ryuki lowered his arm, the battlefield falling into eerie silence. "I'm impressed you survived The Яe-birth's initial assault," he admitted coolly. "But my turn ends here."
As his words echoed, the locked cards on his field shimmered and unlocked, returning to normal. The Яe-birth's blazing aura dimmed slightly as its power recalibrated.
