Chapter 17 - Complaints

Lilith groaned and leaned back in her chair, rubbing her face in frustration. Hazel blushed at the thought of the kiss. To calm her nerves, she offered to open the front door.

As soon as Hazel opened the door, her eyes widened. She saw a girl who bore a striking resemblance to Lilith: the same dark brown hair and light amber eyes, fair skin, but she had a friendlier aura than Lilith. Hazel moved aside to let her in. The girl smirked and looked Hazel up and down as she walked inside. Lilith stood near the couch, narrowing her eyes as she asked, "Sera, what are you doing here?"

Sera sat on the couch, crossing one leg over the other and taking a pillow in her lap. "I just came to meet my little sister before leaving, but I didn't know you had company," she said, smirking at Hazel. Hazel stood there, looking at the floor with her hands intertwined in front of her. "Well, since you have a company, now, I'll take my leave," she said, furrowing her brows at Sera.

"No, you don't have to leave. Please stay," Lilith said, her voice tinged with panic.

Sera's eyes widened slightly as she looked at Lilith, who was nervously rubbing her ear. "Lilith, was that you? You looked like you were about to fall to your knees and beg her to stay," Sera said with a click of her tongue and a smile. Lilith raised an eyebrow at her. "Don't give me that look. Anyone can tell how your body relaxes when you see her," Sera remarked to Lilith.

Then she turned towards Hazel. "Oh, there's no need for you to leave, and definitely no reason to feel jealous of me. I'm certainly not interested in grumpy, emotionally unavailable types," Sera laughed, earning a side-eye from Lilith. "I already have an idea of who you are to my sister, Miss," Sera remarked, rolling her eyes at Lilith. "Why don't you introduce us, Nyx?"

Lilith walked over to Hazel and placed her hand on her waist. "Sera, this is my girlfriend, Hazel. Hazel, this is Seraphine, my elder sister," Lilith waved her hand at Seraphine.

Hazel looked at Sera and said, "Nice to meet you, Ms. Blackthorne."

"That's a bit too formal for my taste, kid, but if you like it, go ahead," Sera said as she checked out her new nails.

Lilith settled Hazel next to Sera on the couch. "Be good, both of you. I don't want any fighting in my apartment."

Sera replied, "I'll try my best."

Hazel added, "It depends on her, Professor."

"Prof.?" Sera winked at Lilith. "And someone, last night, was warning me not to try on her student while she is dating one of them," Sera exclaimed.

"Who was it?" Hazel asked casually, as if she didn't care whether the whole world discovered her secret.

"I don't get into introductions with my one-night stands, darling," Sera replied with a chuckle. Lilith narrowed her eyes at Sera about the nickname. Hazel then looked at Lilith, raising her eyebrow in a silent question. Lilith replied, "It's Adam." Hazel shook her head at Lilith.

"I did tell her not to chase him. It's her fault, not mine," Lilith said, rocking in her place. Sera tried to stifle a laugh, biting her hand, but eventually failed miserably.

"Lilith Blackthorne, almost pleading with her girlfriend—what a sight!" Sera laughed. "But what can I expect. You just gave me a show a few moments ago."

"Shut up," Lilith and Hazel said in unison, causing Sera to laugh even more.

Once Sera stopped laughing, she asked Hazel, "You know him?" Hazel replied, "He is a good friend of mine. I went to the club last night with him."

"Oh, but doesn't the club have an above-21 policy? It's not just any club," Sera said. "Well, we have contacts," Hazel's eyes twinkled with mirth. Sera grinned at Hazel's words. Lilith pressed her fingers to her temples and asked, "Are you staying for lunch?"

"No, but I would love to have some of your apple pie," Sera replied.

"So, you're leaving today? Does the old man not want you pestering me every second?" Lilith huffed.

"I've told you before, and I'll say it again: I had some paperwork to handle," Sera replied, a hint of annoyance in her voice. Lilith knew better than to push her sister.

While Lilith made the apple pie, Sera and Hazel sat at the table near the kitchen.

"You've created a lovely home and meaningful relationships for yourself," Sera said proudly.

Hazel leaned forward, as if sharing a secret, but spoke loud enough so that Lilith could hear. "She's great, but she gets jealous quite often." Sera chuckled at Hazel's admission.

"Never more than you, angel," Lilith replied as she placed the pie in the oven. Hazel blushed at the new nickname.

"Well, you two are perfect for each other," Sera replied with a grin. Lilith walked behind Hazel's chair, placed her hands on Hazel's shoulders, and gently pulled her back, making Hazel look up at her. "Are you complaining about me to my sister, love? Aren't you afraid of what I might do once she leaves?" Lilith said with a smirk.

Hazel shot back defiantly, "It wasn't a complaint, but I would like to know what you can do."

"Now I feel like you both just want to emphasise my single status," Sera said with a sigh.

"Alas, just if you had a partner, I wouldn't have doubted you with Lilith," Hazel replied, looking down at her hands, letting her words hit.

"Oh God, Lilith, you had to find a girl who's even meaner than you. Now I have to deal with blows from both of you," Sera said, rolling her eyes at them.
