….

A few minutes later, it was over.

It had been surprisingly easy. Neither demon was particularly powerful. Their knowledge of magic and the world was disappointingly shallow. And neither of them had any useful information about human settlements.

No matter. I was heading there myself anyway. Hopefully, I would find more useful information there.

I had to admit, though, Gavelet was proving to be surprisingly effective.

" Velocity Override "

At the very least, the demons had provided a clear direction to the nearest town. That was convenient. With a precise heading now locked in, I decided to travel at maximum speed, flying low to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, I became a streak of golden light and vanished.

After a brief, thirty-second flight, I arrived.

I slowed down as the town came into view, ensuring my approach went unnoticed. Before me stood high stone walls, and at the main gate, a long line of merchants and travelers waited to be inspected by the guards.

I had no intention of joining the queue.

I walked towards a deserted section of the wall. To any onlookers, it would have seemed I was about to walk straight into the solid stone.

But no one was watching. A golden portal appeared on the wall's surface. I stepped through the gate, and when I emerged, I was inside the town.

The exit point was, as always, a quiet, unremarkable alleyway.

….

I had entered the town with an ease the guards couldn't possibly imagine. They likely had magical wards to detect teleportation spells, but my methods were not magic. They were technology. Their sensors were useless against me.

My own scanners were always active by default. The moment I stepped out of the alley, a complete map of the surrounding area, including all life forms, was generated in my mind.

The alley was deserted, which was fortunate. My disguise was flickering, on the verge of collapse from my recent use of other armaments. I took a moment to stabilize it.

With my human facade restored, I began to walk the streets, exploring nearly half the town. I didn't need a map; a perfect, three-dimensional model of the city was already being constructed in my memory.

I made my way to the town square.

At its center was a large marble fountain, surrounded by bustling market stalls. The flow of people here was the densest in the entire town. I had come here for a reason; being at the center allowed my scanners to more efficiently map the rest of the city.

[Scan complete. Generating full topographical map...]

I sat on a bench by the fountain and simply observed.

Merchants, mothers, children, old men, nobles, warriors... people from all walks of life passed by. With each one, I ran a passive scan.

Physical data, unique features, weapons, armor all of it was recorded and categorized. I boosted my auditory sensors, listening to every conversation within a hundred-meter radius.

The cacophony of voices was a torrent of information, but my Ex-Machina mind parsed it with ease, filtering out the chatter and extracting only the useful data.

From what I gathered, I was in a place called the Northern Plains. The Demon King was still active, and the war between humanity and demonkind was at its peak. The area outside the town walls was infested with demons and magical beasts.

Based on this information, it seemed I had arrived much earlier in the timeline than I had anticipated.

But that was a minor issue. Time was not a primary concern. I had come to this world to learn magic.

Yes, learn, not copy.

My replicated armaments, my Pseudo-Endo abilities, were powerful, but they were imperfect facsimiles. True mastery came from genuine understanding, not imitation.

In this world, magic was a skill that could be learned by any race. Success was determined by talent and aptitude. Some were naturally gifted with fire, others with water.

I didn't know if I, as an Ex-Machina, would have any such predispositions. I theorized it would be one of two extremes: either I would have no talent for magic at all, or I would have an aptitude for everything.

So, in this era, where does one go to learn magic?

The answer was obvious. I had to find the greatest mage in history. A living grimoire who had witnessed the age of myths and collected nearly every spell ever created.

A being who, in the future, would found the Continental Magic Association and stand at the very pinnacle of human magic.

The elf, Serie.

Finding her would be the most efficient path to my goal.

The problem was, I had no idea where she was. None of the conversations I'd overheard mentioned her. Rasiel was still parsing this new universe's fundamental data and was currently useless.

So what was I to do?

Nothing.

Even I, a being obsessed with efficiency, knew better than to waste energy searching without a target.

It seemed my only option was to wait for Rasiel to finish its analysis.

But I had no intention of being idle.

In this era, human magic was not yet widespread. The great human mage, Flamme, had not yet made her mark on history at least, not according to the information I'd gathered.

Human mages were rare, and trying to find one to teach me would be a waste of time.

It's worth noting that in this world, elves and dwarves were also considered "human."

So, if I wanted to learn magic now, who should I seek out?

….

BOOM!

A collapsing wall filled the chamber with dust and smoke.

Fwoosh

A sudden gust of wind cleared the air, revealing a figure with violet-blue hair. It ignored the monster corpses turning to ash around it and walked directly to the treasure chest at the end of the room.

"[Notice: Command Unit. Labyrinth cleared. Reward acquired. Mission complete.]"

"Acknowledged."

A golden portal opened behind the clone, and it stepped through.
