Chapter 7 - 7

After leaving the space, Nora realized that it was already bright outside. Then she remembered that she had just signed in and received a watch. She had been so excited about getting tissues and eating delicious strawberries that she completely forgot about the watch.

She quickly took it out and fell in love with it at first glance. She recognized this watch. It was a classic Patek Philippe women's model.

The strap was an elegant shade of red, and the dial had a beautiful starry sky design. The edge was decorated with finely cut diamonds, making the whole watch look noble and exquisite. Although Nora never lacked money in the past, she still couldn't afford such an expensive watch worth tens of millions.

She had only seen it in magazines before. Even then, she had been amazed by its beauty. But she knew it was out of her reach.

She never imagined that System Vee.9 would actually give her this as a reward. The system was so thoughtful. She loved it so much.

The only pity was that it wasn't suitable to wear now, so she could only keep it in the space and admire it alone. Nora checked the time. It wasn't even seven yet.

The room was still a little dark, but she didn't turn on the lights. She walked to the window and opened it, looking at the street that was starting to get lively.

"Steamed buns! Hot and big steamed buns!" "Flatbreads! Tasty flatbreads!" "Mister, take a look at this hairpin. Buy one for your wife and she'll be delighted."

The shouts were full of life and didn't feel noisy at all. Leaning by the window for a while, Nora stretched with satisfaction. She went downstairs with the tray in a good mood.

She definitely had to walk around and enjoy this lively and old-style market today. "Hey! Young master, you're awake? Would you like some breakfast?" As soon as she went downstairs, a cheerful waiter came over and greeted her warmly.

"No need. I'm heading out for a stroll. Do you know any fun places nearby?"

Nora took a few coins from her pouch and slipped them into his hand as she asked. The waiter silently pocketed the coins and bent even lower with a slight bow. After all, he only earned ten coins a day.

And the young master had just given him five, which was equal to half a day's wages. He immediately said with more enthusiasm, "You've asked the right person! Right now, the best place to visit is Fairy Lake.

The scenery there is beautiful. There are all kinds of flowers around it, and even the lotus flowers, which have already withered elsewhere this season, are blooming here. Since it's the flower season, many noble ladies have gone boating there to admire the view."

"I've even heard that Lily, the most beautiful woman in Beryllium County, is going boating too. You should go to Fairy Lake, young master, I'm sure you'll have a great time." He even gave her a sly wink as he spoke.

Nora gave an awkward smile, thanked him, and quickly walked out. "You don't have to rush, young master! With your looks, you'll definitely gain something from the trip!" The waiter shouted after her as she left.

Then he turned back to the counter and said to the shopkeeper with envy, "Boss, do you think that young master can win the heart of a beauty?" The shopkeeper didn't stop moving his hands on the abacus. He didn't even lift his eyes.

"That young master really is good-looking. I don't know if he'll win Lily's favor, but I know for sure that you won't. Now hurry up and get back to work."

"Yes yes yes! I'm on it right now!" The waiter quickly replied with a goofy grin, relieved that the boss wasn't truly angry. He continued cleaning.

Even though it was already late autumn, Beryllium Kingdom was in the south, so the temperature wasn't too low. The weather was a bit chilly, but it wasn't unbearable at all.

Nora strolled curiously along the main street. The vendors shouted from both sides, and the aroma of food filled the air, adding a lively feel to the otherwise chilly morning.

She found a small stall selling wontons and sat down. The owners were two middle-aged men in their forties, moving quickly and busily behind the counter. Although it was still early, there were already several customers scattered around the stall.

Nora followed the local customs and called out like the others, "Boss, one bowl of wontons!"

"Alright! Please wait a moment!" The man responded loudly without pausing his work.

Soon, a steaming bowl of wontons was placed in front of her. "Take your time, and if you want more, just call me."

"Thanks!" Nora smelled the fragrance of the wontons and suddenly felt very hungry. She blew gently on them, then took a bite without hesitation. As soon as she tasted it, she couldn't help but nod repeatedly.

The meat was firm and springy, the wrapper was thin, and the filling was rich. It was really delicious. Suddenly, the conversation at the next table caught her attention.

She immediately slowed her movements and listened quietly. "Hey, Brother Ethan, did you hear? They say there'll be a flower-viewing boat event at Fairy Lake today. They say it's organized by the prefect's daughter, and all the young ladies and noblewomen of Beryllium Kingdom are going!"

"Really? Why would the prefect's daughter come to Beryllium Kingdom?"

"It's true! I have a relative who works at the county office. He heard it with his own ears and told me personally!"

As he spoke, the man straightened his clothes proudly and said, "Look at this outfit, I bought it just yesterday. I wore it especially today. Later, we'll go to Fairy Lake together. If we catch the eye of one of the ladies, even becoming a companion husband wouldn't be bad!"

"Exactly! If one of the noble ladies liked you, I'd never forget the favor you did me!"

Listening to their conversation, Nora felt it was unbelievable. Judging by how they spoke, being a companion husband seemed no better than being a concubine?

She secretly turned to glance at them and saw that the man was indeed wearing new clothes. He looked more spirited than the others and seemed well-groomed.

He had a noble and elegant aura, with a faint smile on his face like a spring breeze. A man like this would have no shortage of admirers back in her world. Yet here, he could only hope to be a concubine?

Maybe her gaze was too intense, because the man looked back at her. His face lit up with a smile as he cupped his hands and said, "Little brother, my name is Charles. What may I call you?"

Nora hadn't expected to be noticed and felt a bit embarrassed. Still, she mimicked his gesture and replied, "So it's Brother Charles. My surname is Song, single name Ting." She had used her older brother's name. It was always safer to have an alias when out.

"From your accent, you don't sound local," Charles said warmly as he sat beside her with his bowl.

"Brother Charles has sharp ears. I've been traveling, and I just arrived in Beryllium Kingdom yesterday. I wanted to explore a bit and see the sights. I was so caught up in your words just now that I forgot my manners. I hope Brother Charles won't take offense."

Charles's eyes twinkled. He patted her shoulder and nodded with a smile. "I understand. I completely understand!"

What? Understand what? What's with that creepy smile?

"Brother Song, don't mind him!" The man who had first been talking to Charles couldn't take it anymore. He walked over and gently removed Charles's hand from her shoulder, explaining, "My name is Ethan. We're all students at Mingda Academy. Today is our day off, so we planned to visit Fairy Lake. Charles doesn't mean any harm. He's just a little too friendly. Please don't take it the wrong way!"
