Maya's POV
I wandered through every room of the apartment, but Damon was nowhere to be found. Despite it being Saturday morning and him not having any hospital duties, he'd disappeared before I'd even opened my eyes. Not even a hastily scribbled note to indicate his whereabouts.
When I stepped into the living area, I spotted Lana on the balcony, her phone pressed against her ear, speaking in hushed tones. The moment she noticed me, she quickly wrapped up her conversation. All this secrecy was making me suspicious. I was certain it connected to whatever Damon had been keeping from me. Though I'd promised to trust him, my curiosity was reaching unbearable levels.
"Let's skip the part where you pretend you weren't talking about me," I said, approaching her directly. "Look, I gave your brother my vote of confidence, but that doesn't mean I'm not dying to know what's happening. Come on, Lana, what's Damon hiding?"
