The divorce hearing loomed on the horizon, and that useless Cody still hadn't provided clear instructions on my next move. His only direction was to "be prepared" to either show up or not—as if that was helpful guidance. What kind of strategic mastermind leaves someone hanging like this?
I regret ever mentioning my police station visit to him. That female detective's interrogation changed everything. Cody's attitude toward me shifted immediately afterward. But what choice did I have? Ignoring a police summons wasn't an option, and this mess wasn't solely my creation.
My nerves were frayed as I paced the hotel lobby, checking my watch repeatedly. Patience had never been my virtue. Unable to bear the uncertainty any longer, I pulled out my phone and called him.
