Clavin's POV
The morning sun beat down as I rode through my plantation, my mind occupied with thoughts of Maya's beauty. I couldn't help smiling at my good fortune. That girl would be mine.
Claire had proven herself utterly useless, attempting to sell the girl off like cattle. When she approached me with the proposal to marry Maya to my worthless son, I initially thought it might work. Perhaps marriage would finally make him stop draining my accounts on wild parties and prostitutes around town. But the moment I laid eyes on Maya, my plans changed. That exquisite creature would be my wife, not his. Now I found myself impatient as a schoolboy with his first crush. I'd move the wedding to tomorrow. Claire could rage all she wanted.
