Damon's POV
Cole sat across from me, his jaw hanging open in shock. Next to him, Ophelia seemed to have stopped breathing entirely. Anxiety churned in my stomach as Cole handed me the paper. I stared at the results, my mind refusing to accept what I was seeing.
"Positive? This can't be right. Maya can't possibly be that woman's daughter!" The idea that Maya shared blood with that monster was inconceivable to me.
When Cole first shared his suspicions, it had seemed absurd. But as pieces fell into place, the horrifying possibility became more real. Now I held irrefutable evidence in my hands – a DNA test confirming Maya was indeed Claire's biological daughter.
"It's impossible, Damon," Cole's voice cracked with emotion. "Maya can't be that venomous woman's child. Look how much she resembles my mother. You've seen the photograph." Tears streamed down his face as despair overwhelmed him. I felt equally stunned.
