Damon's POV
The weight of what we'd discovered pressed down on my shoulders as I finished my last report of the day. Maya would be devastated when she learned the truth, and I would have given anything to shield her from that pain. Yet hiding this revelation wasn't an option. Part of me regretted ever starting this investigation. Glancing across my office, I noticed Ophelia sitting quietly in the corner, her gaze distant, seemingly lost in her thoughts.
"Having second thoughts about pursuing this?" I asked, closing my laptop.
Ophelia turned to me with troubled eyes. "I've been wrestling with that all afternoon. I hate putting my husband and his family through this nightmare, but letting Claire escape accountability for her actions feels wrong. Honestly, Damon, I don't know what the lesser evil is here."
"Maya will take it harder than anyone," I said, voicing my deepest concern.
