Damon's POV
Two endless days had passed with Maya lying motionless in this sterile hospital bed. The doctors explained that Claire had injected her with a powerful sedative typically reserved for hospital procedures. They assured me she narrowly avoided a lethal overdose, but their words offered little comfort. Until those beautiful eyes opened again, dread would continue to grip my heart.
"Damon, this isn't healthy." Ophelia appeared in the doorway, concern etched across her face. "You haven't left this room in forty-eight hours. Not even for coffee. Come to my place for a bit. I'll stay with her."
I rubbed my tired eyes. "I appreciate it, Ophelia, but my answer hasn't changed since the last nine times someone asked. I'm not leaving until Maya does."
"And when she wakes up, she'll find you collapsed from exhaustion," Owen chimed in as he entered with our other friends trailing behind.
