Sleep eluded me all night. My thoughts spiraled endlessly about our family situation. Despite not sharing their blood, these people were my family—my heart belonged to them completely. The kitchen was quiet as I sipped my coffee in the early morning stillness. Everyone else was still asleep, giving me time to prepare a special breakfast. I wanted to bring some comfort to Dad and Cole. If I was struggling with these revelations, they must be suffering even more—Cole had lost his mother because of that woman!
"I can practically hear the wheels turning from here, little one," Damon's voice startled me.
He stood in the doorway, devastatingly handsome in black pants and a loose white shirt that somehow managed to highlight every muscle in his body without clinging to him.
"There's just so much to process, Damon. Everything feels absurd."
