Stella's POV
I had been buzzing with anticipation ever since Megan, Adrian's housekeeper, called after lunch. "The furniture has arrived," she'd said, her warm voice instantly lifting my spirits. Megan was more than just a housekeeper—she was the heart of Adrian's home, running everything with maternal efficiency. We'd developed a wonderful rapport, and she promised to update me on all household matters, especially the furniture delivery.
My excitement carried me through the rest of the workday. I practically floated out of the office, but when I slipped into Adrian's car, his demeanor immediately caught my attention. Though he greeted me with a kiss and a tight embrace, tension radiated from him like heat.
"My handsome, what's wrong?" I gently probed, studying his exhausted features.
He exhaled deeply. "It's been a shitty day, Stella. I just want to spend the night holding you."
"What happened, Adrian?" My concern deepened as he released me and started the engine.
