Stella's POV
I was completely shattered. The entire night was spent sobbing into Maya's shoulder until my eyes were swollen and raw. This morning required layers of concealer and multiple rounds of eye drops just to look remotely human. I had braced myself for anything from Adrian, but this level of betrayal cut deeper than I ever imagined possible. The image of that half-dressed woman in his apartment replayed in my mind like a cruel movie I couldn't turn off.
Walking into the office felt like dragging myself through quicksand. Hazel sat at her desk looking equally miserable, and I knew I couldn't handle a conversation with her right now. Instead, I escaped to the break room where Fiona was organizing supplies.
"Stella, good morning sunshine!" Fiona's cheerful greeting felt like sandpaper against my fragile composure. I managed the weakest smile in return.
"What's eating at you, sweetheart?" Her maternal instincts kicked in immediately.
