Adrian's POV
I walked into the office that morning with a spring in my step, anticipating what I thought would be the best day in weeks. My new assistant would finally start, which meant I could delegate some of the crushing workload that had been suffocating me. Plus, I was looking forward to the office gossip about Liam and his secretary situation, and I had dinner plans with Zoe tonight. Everything felt like it was falling into place perfectly.
The elevator chimed as it reached the top floor of my building, and I stepped out expecting a normal morning. Instead, I found Chloe stationed near my office door like a sentinel, arms folded across her chest, one foot tapping an impatient rhythm against the marble floor. Her expression could have frozen hell over.
Before I could even process what was happening, she launched herself at me like a missile.
