Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Talisman

Qin Feng stood awkwardly aside after the two sisters finished arguing, shrugged at Lin Nan, and quickly slipped into Lin Xia's bedroom to help her pack her things.

This young lady's room was really a mess, with all sorts of stuff strewn all over the floor.

As soon as Qin Feng entered, he stepped on a piece of black lace fabric. He picked it up and took a look; it was a strangely shaped triangle with a thin string around it, emitting a faint, exotic fragrance.

Lin Xia's big eyes swept over, and she quickly rushed forward to snatch the fabric from his hands, her face turning red like a boiled egg out of embarrassment.

In the end, the two of them packed two large bags of clothes, which Qin Feng tossed into the Storage Ring before following Lin Nan to a rented apartment near the school.

There were plenty of such apartments around West Capital University, clustered in village-in-the-city areas, and the tenants were all young folks experiencing the joys of first love.

Even though the conditions of the rented houses weren't great, it didn't stop their hormone-driven enthusiasm.

Lin Nan's apartment building was in this area, and it was the best in terms of both location and facilities.

With 24-hour hot water, heating, air conditioning, and broadband, it was move-in ready.

The sky was already dark, and the village-in-the-city was still bustling with flickering lights and constant streams of people.

A variety of stalls lined the entire street, selling everything from food and drinks to clothing and other essentials.

Lin Nan had a hard time driving through, eventually bringing Qin Feng and Lin Xia up to the third floor.

The place had two sets of two-bedroom, one-lounge units; the west side unit was already rented out, leaving only the east side available.

Entering the apartment, Lin Xia glanced around and plopped down on the sofa, looking displeased, "Big sis, your police station is so stingy. They want you to go undercover, yet they don't even rent you a decent place! There are only two rooms here, how are the three of us supposed to live?"

As Qin Feng took out the clothes, Lin Nan tidied up while instructing, "Young lady, you'll just have to put up with it. This place is good enough; living here makes you seem like a student! You can share a room with me, and Qin Feng can have the other room, simple!"

Lin Xia immediately shook her head, "No way, I'm not sharing with you. Your erratic lifestyle disrupts my rest, and you snore at night; I can't take it!"

Feeling frustrated, Lin Nan raised her brow, "Then what do you suggest? Either go back to the dorm or do you think I can tolerate you?"

Lin Xia pouted and huffed, "I don't care, I'm not going back to the dorm. I want a single room, you figure it out!"

Just as Lin Nan was about to reprimand her sister, Qin Feng quickly interjected, "Enough, you two. This living room is nice and spacious. I don't sleep at night anyway; I just need a place to meditate!"

Lin Xia ears perked up happily, "Great, it's settled. Brother Qin in the living room, I'll take the sunny bedroom!"

With that, she picked up a teddy bear, marched into the bedroom, and shut the door with a bang, leaving Lin Nan speechless with anger.

Qin Feng smiled at Lin Nan, "Miss Lin, you don't seem in a good mood today?"

Lin Nan, after finishing tidying up, sat down on the sofa, took a sip of her drink, and sighed, "Barely escaping death to find I'm unable to seek revenge; it's so frustrating!"

Qin Feng looked at Lin Nan resolutely, "What are you afraid of? With me here, handling them is a piece of cake!"

Lin Nan, moved, shook her head, "You don't understand; the ones who tried to kill me are just small fry. The higher-ups are after the big players behind them. We can't act until we have concrete evidence!"

"I get it, it's called baiting with a long line!"

Qin Feng chuckled, furrowing his brows as he took out paper and pen from the Storage Ring, concentrated, and drew a talisman to hand to Lin Nan.

Lin Nan looked at the talisman, curious, "What's this?"

Qin Feng smiled, "This is an Invisibility Talisman, lasts for one hour. If you're in danger, just stick it on yourself and recite the spell to vanish!"

Lin Nan, incredulous, was astonished, "Really that magical?"

Qin Feng explained with a smile, "Nothing to it. Talisman and spell; the talisman is the carrier, the spell is the spiritual power.

Reciting the spell releases the spiritual power I stored in the talisman paper.

This spiritual power can temporarily distort space, like creasing a piece of paper. Thus, others only see the space distortion, and you become invisible!"

Lin Nan blinked her big eyes in admiration, "Is this what you Daoist guys study? Space too?"

Qin Feng laughed, "No, I just grasped this from the Encyclopedia. Science and Daoism are interconnected, just different forms of expression!"

Lin Nan put away the talisman, full of admiration, "Seems your time in the city wasn't wasted. I was worried you'd be corrupted by the city life. You adapted so quickly, now I'm relieved!"

Qin Feng smiled, teaching her the incantation. If not for his insufficient cultivation, only able to refine a bit of spiritual power, he'd have drawn ten or so for her.

Every sect has its unique spells, all passed down through ancestors' long explorations.

The stronger the spiritual power stored in the talisman paper, the more it requires special spells to lock in the power.

The Maoshan Sect mainly focuses on talismans, riding on the glory of their ancestors to hold a top position in the Daoist Sect today.

Qin Feng's talisman method is from the Maoshan Sect, but it was stolen by his master, and can't be seen in the light.

If the Maoshan Sect knew, they'd want him dead.

The Daoist Sect isn't like the secular world, without legal constraints, it upholds the principle of might makes right.

Cultivation essentially defies the heavens. Once one enters the Daoist Sect, it's as deep as the ocean, no longer under the protection of the Heavenly Dao.

In other words, if a cultivator kills a mortal, the Thunder Tribulation increases tenfold during their Crossing the Tribulation. But killing a cultivator, the Heavenly Dao won't intervene.

So, Central Earth suffered calamities throughout history. Even with alien invasions, the Cultivation Realm could only stand by.

If someone dares kill a mortal, they oppose the Heavenly Dao, unless they tread a crooked path.

Otherwise, no one dares take that risk.

After a busy day, Lin Nan learned the spell from Qin Feng and soon started yawning.

Qin Feng sent her to bed, and just as he was about to meditate on the floor, a knock came from the door.

He opened the door to find a curly-haired lady holding a girl of about six or seven.

She handed Qin Feng a card, "Hi, I'm He Mei, the landlord here. This is your electricity card. If you need anything, just find me on the first floor!"

"He Mei!"

Qin Feng murmured the name internally, took the electricity card, and nodded with a smile, "Thanks a lot!"

He Mei smiled, "No need to thank me, it's my duty!"

With that, she carrying the girl, turned and went downstairs, leaving a lingering fragrance in the stairwell.

Qin Feng judged her to be in her thirties, with a round face and charming eyes, more mature than Lin Nan and Lin Xia.

She maintained a great figure, clad in a tight black dress with high-heeled sandals, looking quite alluring.
