Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Gap

Ga! Ga! Ga!

In the dim room, a piercing bird call suddenly resounded.

W's eyes snapped open, filled with a coldness like a fish that had spent ten years being slaughtered at the Da Runfa supermarket, she rolled swiftly to the side...

Thud.

She fell off the bed.

"..."

For a moment, the air was a bit silent.

However, the next moment, a few sentences in a language W couldn't understand came from outside the window, filled with angry emotion, followed by a series of "ga ga ga" - resembling the call of some kind of black feathered beast (the collective name in Terra World for winged creatures) - dripping with mockery and taunt.

She didn't react further, only moved herself back into position on the floor, blankly staring at the unfamiliar ceiling and the white lamp fixtures embedded within it.

After a long time, she slowly turned her head, looking toward the direction of the bed.

The sunlight sneaking in through the gap in the light blue curtains by the bed allowed W to roughly gauge the time.

She was somewhat unaccustomed.

Since understanding the survival rules of Kazdail, she hadn't slept at night for a long time; night was her camouflage, deception, theft, assassination... She was born of the night, accustomed to dealing with the food gathered at night while watching the sun slowly rise from the horizon, celebrating surviving another day, and then finding a somewhat safe place – like an abandoned building due to war – to sleep against the wall, and couldn't sleep too deeply, the slightest disturbance would wake her.

Yet now, not only had she fallen asleep at night, but she also almost slept till this time.

If it were Kazdail, she'd already be a dead person by now.

"..."

After a moment of silence, W raised her hand and pressed the mattress beside her, soft, yet elastic. She could not resist the temptation of this bed yesterday, leaning against the wall by the bed and didn't know when she lay down.

According to the young man, this bed was bought more than ten years ago, and among the tens of billions of people in Great Xia, almost every household could afford such a comfortable big bed.

Lying there dumbly for half a day, until no more sleepiness remained, W finally stood up.

She sat back on the mattress, lowered her head and began to unbutton the white shirt on her body, then took a piece of intimate clothing from the bedside table beside her, fumbling behind her back for a long time before finally fastening the buttons.

Last night, she ultimately chose to take a thorough bath.

The old clothes were thrown into the washing machine, so Lin Guang used that magical little box to order a set of underwear online for her, which she didn't think was pretentious, directly wearing them after the bath.

As for outerwear, Lin Guang was now about 1.7 meters tall, and his clothes could barely fit, so W, without asking for permission, casually took a white shirt and a pair of deep blue jeans from his wardrobe.

But when she went to sleep at night, she felt the underwear was indeed a bit tight on her chest, so she took it off at midnight and placed it beside her, only wearing that white shirt on top.

With the hook in place at this moment, the slightly restricted feeling returned, W got up, put on the slightly loose jeans, simply freshened up in the bathroom, and pushed the door open to leave.

At this moment, the young man was already dressed, sitting at the dining table.

The living room was brightened by the noonday sun, an open notebook placed in front of him, one hand holding a pen drawing and writing, the left hand tapping on that little box called a phone.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, he turned his head: "Awake?"

W didn't know what to say, she just scratch her face a bit bewilderedly, and nodded slightly.

He closed the notebook: "Then let's eat first."

Just like yesterday, W watched him busy in the kitchen for a while in an orderly fashion, soon bringing out two bowls of fragrant fried egg soup noodles.

Decorated with chives, appearing light but not lacking in appetite.

Lin Guang placed the dishes on the dining table, then removed his apron, took out a pair of chopsticks and a fork, saying: "You can try using the chopsticks, if it's really not suitable, use the fork instead."

W looked at those two little wooden sticks, her mouth twitching: "Why do I have to learn to use the tableware of this world."

"You'll have to use them when eating out in the future."

"....."

Watching Lin Guang take the first bite, the girl struggling in an ill-fitting shirt began her battle with the chopsticks, unable to pick up more than a couple of noodles even after a minute.

However, just when W was about to grow embarrassed and angry, she happened to bite into the fried egg, suddenly her eyes lit up, and she began devouring the contents of the bowl ravenously, even drinking the soup to the last drop, with a look of still wanting more.

Putting down the bowl, W saw Lin Guang's slightly raised lips, her face blushed a bit as she said, "Why are you laughing."

"No cook would be unhappy seeing their food enjoyed."

"That egg is from a gray-grade Spirit Beast, the Ten Yellow Chicken's egg, and it costs about twenty bucks each, so buying it wasn't in vain since you like it."

"..."

For some reason, W could tell Lin Guang was speaking the truth, making her feel quite uneasy, her past rich wandering experience was entirely useless at this moment.

If she'd known, she wouldn't have brought it up... She pouted, looking at Lin Guang eating noodles unhurriedly, the black and red demon tail behind him swaying from side to side.

"Did you hear the screech just now?"

"Oh, that." Lin Guang shook his head, "It's an Explosive Sound Crow someone lets roam freely in the community, its voice is explosively loud and piercing. Raised as a pet, probably under tier one, it's been scolded a few times into only calling out in the mid-afternoon. Not letting it call would leave it depressed, besides it's hard to catch with its wings, so it's just left alone."

The girl snorted softly, muttering, "If my gun was still here, I would definitely make it a roasted bird."

...

The afternoon sunlight was not so glaring, the little electric bike skimming along the not so crowded motor lane, the breeze it stirred up blowing through her hair ends, gently lifting the girl's silver hair.

W sat very casually on the back of the bike driven by Lin Guang, one foot on the seat, one hand propping up her chin, watching with interest at the spirit beasts moving alongside.

Those spirit beasts capable of carrying people and goods varied in form, some resembling dangerous creatures from her birthplace Kazdail – but much tamer.

There was even a huge blue crab-like spirit beast crawling across the lane, making her stare for a long time, until it turned with a deft yet wild motion, at which point she reluctantly withdrew her gaze.

Turning at the seventh corner, Lin Guang lightly gripped the brake, decelerating by the roadside.

He stopped the electric bike, placed the helmet on the handlebar, looking at the gentle sunlight casting dappled shadows through the branches and leaves of the golden birch trees along the sidewalk, and turned back to W saying: "We're here."
