Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The hunters and the hunted.

Wade runs through the hallways with one hand to the wall, and the ink in his eyes has caused very strange effects on him. He can barely see 1 foot in front of him, and the brightness of what he sees is constantly changing. He slowly climbs the stairs up to the second floor to Lady Mirth's office. He bursts through her doors and is not entirely sure if she is there until she asks him.

"Wade, what happened to you?"

After hearing her voice, he is relieved she is there.

"Lady Murth, the octopus escaped from his tank. I chased after him, but after I grabbed it, it sprayed me with its ink, and I couldn't find it again."

Lady Murth puts her finger to her chin with a puzzled look before deciding what to do next.

"Tell all the maids and servants to keep their eyes out for it."

"Okay, Miss, but I don't think I can in my condition."

"What's wrong, Wade?"

"The ink the octopus sprayed me with won't come off, and I can barely see now."

Lady Mirth looks a little more worried than before and issues new orders to Wade.

"Everything I said to you before, relay to my assistant. You're relieved of duty until you can see Wade, so go to the doctor's and get your eyes checked. Also, ask my assistant to fetch Precious for me."

Wade, looking even more nervous than before at the mention of Precious, hastily walks out, still holding the wall just like before. He heads down to the assistant's office, a room down, and relays the information to him. Just before leaving, he has a strange thought.

'I feel sorry for that octopus now.'

'Man, this was a feast for a king. I understand now the joys of a party. Thank you, dead fish, for your brave sacrifice to venture to where no fish has lived to tell about. Rest in Peace, in delicious, delicious peace.'

'Okay, now that that's over, let's keep going on our merry way.'

Just like how I climbed out of the fancy tank and started going across the room, headed towards the window, beginning phase three. Oh, and what phase three, you ask? Well, I have divided my plan into 5 phases. Phase 1, using my cloaking ability, I deceive the person transporting me into opening the tank and letting me out, then I must find a way to lose said person. I knew I couldn't do it while Beau or Oscar was around because they had already seen my camouflage ability and changing shape back on the boat while I was practicing. Phase 2 was a matter of finding necessary food or resources to get out. If they planned to keep an octopus here, it stands to reason they would also have food for growing octopus, such as myself. Phase three is to find a vantage point to figure out the best escape route off the property. Any good octopus knows how to use their surroundings to their advantage.

As I climbed the wall up to the window, two maids came into the room.

'crap'

One started setting cutlery on the tables, and another was dusting and moving the paintings on the walls, and of course, she was headed directly towards me. I immediately started climbing the wall much faster, but I just couldn't make it to the window before she got to me.

"Hey Martha, was there always a horse in this photo?"

"Come on, Grace, we need to hurry before head maid Helga gets mad at us."

"You're right, Martha, sorry."

She then picked up the painting I was on and placed it on a pushcart with other paintings. I couldn't get out as doing so would make the paintings fall over, giving me away.

"Okay, take those paintings to the storage room, Grace."

"Got it."

Remember when I told you how every octopus knows how to be aware of its surroundings? Well, everyone good octopus knows the most important thing in every well-laid plan, how to improvise.

'This situation is worse than I originally anticipated.'

Mirth was walking down the steps to the first floor briskly, headed to the backyard.

'Wade still can't see after that octopus sprayed him. I need to find that before anyone else gets hurt, or it might affect the festivities.' Mirth thought this to herself.

Though she would never admit it, she feels very bad about what happened to Wade and has a plan to find the troublesome cephalopod.

As she gets outside, she is greeted by a group of 5 dogs, all running at her, all of them about 4 feet tall and weighing more than her. They resembled a Doberman with short black hair and sharp pointed ears, and long snouts. She immediately commanded them to "heel," and every single one of them stopped dead in their tracks. She called out for "Precious," and a larger dog about 2 heads taller than the other dogs ran over to her side and licked her face. Its standing height was the same as hers, and it had striking light blue eyes in contrast to its pitch-black coat.

She pulls out a piece of cloth with black ink on it. She commands the behemoth of a dog, "Precious, find it." Precious leans in and smells the cloth, and her deep blue eyes immediately show the reflection of a tiny octopus in them. Immediately, Precious runs away from Mirth; she has found her prey.

'Welp, this ride is not as fun as I thought. Being stuck between paintings and headed off to some storage room with no way out yet really makes you appreciative of what you had.'

As we keep moving down hallway after hallway, I can feel these paintings bumping and hitting me over and over. Oh, one thing I noticed being out of water for so long is weirdly enough it's not that uncomfortable, I can breathe perfectly fine out here, the worst part is that I'm drying out, but that's slow as the air is very humid in general, being above a lake and all. Must be more moss magic. As the maid opened a door to what I can only guess is a small kitchen for the staff, all that's in this room is two other maids, one of them is the one we saw earlier and the other is an older and taller maid with a tight bun and graying hair with a scowl. As I looked for the exits of the room, I noticed a doggy door that led to the backyard.

'Bingo!'

The old maid lays her eyes on Grace, who just walked in, and in a condescending tone, she asks, "What are you doing here? Aren't you taking these paintings to storage?"

"Well, Miss Helga, I was trying to find the storage room, b-but got a little turned around, so I came here hoping if Martha could help me-"

BAM

Miss Helga slaps Grace across the face with the back of her hand, leaving a cut from her sharp nails. Grace touches her cheek with her hand and sees the blood on it. Too scared to look back up at Miss Helga, she just stands back up with her head down, and a tear rolls down her face.

"Foolishness is no excuse to fail, go find the storage room yourself so you can learn AHHHH WHAT IS THIS!?"

Helga immediately screamed when she found her face and dress covered in black ink.

'Please just shut up, lady.' As soon as I sprayed Helga, I ran out of the paintings in the ensuing confusion and headed straight out that doggy door. Just before I get out, Grace sees me, but instead of trying to catch me, she mouths thank you to me. I pause for a second, the reason why I helped her, because my gut told me to, also that Helga lady was making me mad. Using my tentacles, I replicate a thumbs-up the best I can. Grace, in her shock to see me do that, her eyes rolled to the back of her head, and she passed out, leading Martha to scream as well.

'Woops.'

'Welp, better continue on anyway. Don't want any girls catching feelings, I'm a lone wolf type of octopus.'

As I continued my way outside, I was traveling through that non-sea seagrass across the field. I'm hoping to get to the end of the property and get out of here, probably shouldn't have skipped phase 3, but well, scouting is for cowards anyway. I continued to slowly walk further on the field, of course, camouflaged green. I noticed there seemed to be colorful toys scattered randomly across the field, each in a different color and shape, but all of them were twice as big as I was. As I kept walking, I could hear the faint sounds of barking slowly getting closer to me.

'Better pick up the pace then.'

As I almost left the Field of Toys, I saw one of the dogs start running towards me, and the others behind it started to follow it.

'Oh shit'

I begin to sprint as fast as my tentacles can possibly take, but how can I outrun four-legged giants? I kept running and running, but there was no way to get away, and as they were about to overtake me, they just kept going. They run straight past me and are headed for an old man in front of me.

"Aww, did you miss me, guys? Well, I missed you. Oh, I love you and I love you too, give dad some love." In a baby voice, I see a middle-aged man petting and playing with these giant back hounds like they're puppies.

'Oh, shit it's him. Sword guy, I think his name was Muk.'

"Hmm, what's that over their guys?"

'FUCK!'
