Chapter 169 - The Mission (169)

Location: Hokage's Office – Konohagakure

Time: Early Morning

So... Hatake Sakumo kinda had to actually give back the Uzumaki shit that Konoha had... so he had to make a squad to go there.

He would gaze at the number of applicants... let's see.

Seijuro Kurama would 100% be going. He was one of Konoha's many strong shinobi, plus he never really failed a mission.

Yes, even the Root mission wasn't a failure. His mission was to intercept/capture them—it had nothing to do with the group that Konoha was unaware of.

So as shit stood, his record was clean, untouched—nearly 700 missions for the village and not a single failure. And since he had learned the Flying Raijin, he could speedrun missions now.

Since he had a kunai marker practically everywhere within Fire Territory, Wind and Water were also part of it now. Recently, Cloud too.

He didn't have any in the Earth Kingdom since no high-level mission had required him to go there. TL;DR, he had been taking A, B, and S-rank missions nonstop for a while now.

As if working to get his To...

Sakumo could tell why he was working so hard—to be able to spend time with his friends, and especially... Mikoto.

He sighed a bit.

Up next, Kushina. She was their jinchūriki, yes, and while she needed to stay in the village, her control over the Nine-Tails was quite refined—being able to enter Six-Tails without losing her shit.

Plus, she was an Uzumaki. He hoped that since she was part of his clan, he would show some slight mercy to them, maybe soften up a bit.

Next up in the squad:

Mikoto Uchiha. She was an elite jōnin with a Three-Tomoe Sharingan. While this team had Genjutsu and raw power, it kinda lacked some range—which Mikoto could offer. Especially since she was a ninjutsu specialist. She was also quite good with the sword.

Plus, her synchrony with Seijuro and Kushina would go great.

Now, in order to make sure they could reach their full potential, Tsunade would be there to offer some heals.

While Nawaki wanted to go... unfortunately, he would have to stay in Konoha. He had just awakened Wood Style, and unless he had a very good mastery of it, they would not let him walk outside Konoha lacking like this.

It was a recipe for getting jumped.

So yeah, the squad that would deliver the Uzumaki stuff consisted of Seijuro—someone who was quite fluent in the Uzumaki sealing language. Kushina—an Uzumaki herself, more brawler type, while Seijuro could fight hand-to-hand but preferred using Genjutsu from long range.

Then, there was Mikoto with her Sharingan, offering some variety. And Tsunade for the heals—and if need be, a very powerful brawler, and a sage in training. She was learning Slug Sage Mode. She hadn't mastered it yet, though.

Those four would be the core members. The rest of the squad would consist of about 15 to 20 jōnin-ANBU who would accompany them to the mission area.

Jiraiya was left behind on babysitting duty. Basically teaching Nawaki how to absorb Nature Energy alongside some other stuff. He seemed happy to do it—something about scoring points with Tsunade if he does it.

This guy only thinks with his dick.

Anyway, Sakumo looked at the papers.

Yup, this was the squad he had set up. He looked at the sensory unit... no Hyūga, unfortunately, since they were busy dealing with their own mess. So they had to do with what they had.

Which was the Uchiha, the Inuzuka, and the Aburame clan.

He watched as Seijuro's name was basically in every squad. This guy truly was a talent seen once every thousand years or something—managing to dominate so many fields at the same time.

Sometimes he wondered if the Kurama clan was simply that OP... but no, it wasn't. Having roughly like 50 or so members, the Kurama clan wasn't by any means a big clan.

For comparison, the Uchiha clan had like 500 or so members—800 to be exact. 500 of which were active shinobi. The rest were people who retired or were way too young to be shinobi.

That stuff.

And they were considered a big clan.

The Sarutobi clan had 1.5k members... Sakumo's brow rose. That didn't add up. How the heck... oh... yeah. Hiruzen was Hokage, so while the Senju clan was busy laying their wood inside Konoha civilians and becoming one with the village, the Sarutobi clan was expanding.

Same went with the clan of every elder... well, what a shame.

Their clan now had 700 members. Apparently missions were harder now. Oh well—what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Or some BS like that.

Anyway, as the team entered the room, Sakumo opened his mouth before saying:

"This mission is of utmost importance. You must make sure nothing goes wrong."

Seijuro simply nodded, indicating that he understood.
