Sleepiness—this was one of the many things Arvani couldn't resist.
Back when she was homeless, she could sleep whenever she wanted. But after joining Daniel's group, she had no choice but to regulate her sleep schedule.
Unfortunately, that was hard. Very hard. For most people, drowsiness came at night or at their usual bedtime. But not for Arvani—her sleepiness could strike randomly and unpredictably.
A few days ago.
While waiting for Ardi, who had gone out hunting monsters beyond the city walls, Arvani began to feel drowsy. Without hesitation, she called on Kensei to keep watch for monsters.
That day, Ardi and Arvani had gone far enough from the city walls to encounter some powerful beasts.
A few minutes after Arvani drifted off into dreamland, Kensei spotted a herd of three-horned rampaging bulls. What happened after that was a blur for Arvani.
When she came to, the first thing she felt was warmth and the metallic stench of monster blood coating her entire body. It was then that Arvani realized that the spirit she had summoned—Kensei—could possess her body. Along with that, she could wield Kensei's sword techniques with ease.
Unfortunately, the difference in power between the two was too great, and it resulted in Arvani needing three full days of care under Mariposa's watch.
"Forgive me... Please forgive me..."
Arvani's consciousness returned. She frowned in disgust at the scene around her—scattered human body parts: legs, arms, heads, and even internal organs like intestines strewn across the area.
She immediately covered her mouth with her left hand.
'Kensei, you psycho. What the hell did you do?!' Arvani screamed in disgust at Kensei, who had taken control of her body.
'I merely killed them. The dismembered bodies are their own fault for eating spider monster eggs.'
'Spider monster?' Arvani frowned, confused.
When her black eyes turned to the person begging for mercy, she instead saw a massive bluish-black spider happily wrapping him up in its web. Arvani's body froze when her eyes met the gaze of a spider the size of a bus.
'Don't just stand there, you idiot!'
Kensei yelled in frustration. A white aura suddenly surged across Arvani's body, forcing her to leap to the side, narrowly dodging the spider's web shot.
'Oh shit, my body hurts!'
'Hang in there. I almost killed this thing.'
White aura gathered around Arvani's right hand, coating her sword. Just as Kensei was about to resume the attack—
Bang!
"Ugh!"
Arvani winced as a bullet struck her injured waist. Her black eyes darted toward the source—it was another group, also planning to kill her.
'Seriously?! What's the bounty on Red Rabbit now?!'
'Just hold on.'
'Easy for you to say! I'm the only one feeling the pain!'
Slowly, the white aura around Arvani began to fade. Not because Kensei's energy ran out, but because Arvani's body simply couldn't move anymore.
And Kensei was curious about one thing—would he be freed if Arvani died? There was one easy way to find out, and conveniently, Kensei couldn't kill her himself.
So, let her die at the hands of these would-be Hunters.
Arvani, fresh from sleep and already in pain, couldn't think straight.
Thud!
A kick from one of her attackers struck her head.
Faintly, Arvani could hear mocking laughter. Another kick landed on her wound, making her wince in agony. One, two... five heavy kicks eventually brought her down.
In a state of numbness, unable to feel anything, Arvani heard a voice.
(That's wHy even if you're the weakest oR the stROngesT perSon in the worlD you should neVEr take orDers from otHers. After aLL, you're A ■■.)
Right as one of the attackers aimed their gun for a second shot, Arvani threw her sword—and struck the target dead-on. Somehow, she had gained a surge of energy.
"Aghh! You b****! Kill her!"
Arvani grabbed a handful of dirt and flung it to block their vision. She then took the dagger Ardi had given her from her belt and drove it into the neck of the closest enemy.
Her black eyes scanned the surroundings quickly.
Five enemies.
One critically injured by her sword. One dead. One approaching the spider monster—likely preparing to use a miracle. Two further away, armed with a pistol and rifle.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunshots rang out. Arvani used the corpse of the man she killed as a shield. She then hurled the body at one of the riflemen.
Despite the pain, Arvani sprinted toward the man impaled by her sword. Just as he began to summon his miracle, Arvani called on Kensei to decapitate him.
However, since her energy was nearly depleted, Kensei Igarashi's spirit could only manifest for one second.
"..." Arvani bit her lip as a wave of pain struck her left eye.
"[Kensei Igarashi Sword Technique: Second Form]."
Arvani dashed at full force toward the last man holding a rifle. Her first move—a stab to the heart—was delivered with her left hand gripping the sword.
"Haha, why are you so slow?" she sneered, bringing her face close with a mocking smile the dying man would never forget.
She took his rifle and opened fire on the rest—especially the one trying to control the spider monster. Her breathing grew erratic. Her black eyes locked once more with the massive, still spider monster.
What am I doing here? That was the thought Arvani could read from the spider.
Her vision dimmed. She couldn't open her left eye, and her right was smeared with blood.
"I'm really tired. Could you just leave?" Arvani muttered aloud what was truly in her heart.
The spider monster, unable to understand, continued to stare at her in confusion. Its instincts screamed in fear at the frail human who could barely stand.
In the end, the spider left, following its natural instinct to flee from unseen danger.
Thud!
Arvani collapsed and lay on the blood-stained, dirty ground.
"Where's Rian?" she asked Kensei.
'Hunting monsters to gain points.'
The girl groaned softly. She should've asked Rian to come with her. At least it would've lightened her burden.
A previously invisible black orb nearby lit up.
It displayed the number 300.
The spider she saw earlier had been blue, meaning Kensei had killed the red one earlier. With her current score, Arvani could book the most comfortable room, eat the best food, and get proper treatment.
"Damn it, there are still 9 days left?!"
