Chapter 4 - Worst. Interview. Ever.

'This is getting boring.' Yuhe had been sitting inside the blank room for the past 30 minutes, he didn't know how to read a clock since he's never seen one that wasnt digital. But he noticed the long hand move from the top, to the very bottom. It actually resembled his patience very much, which he was very out of. Inside his abandoned homeland he really never had time to stay still. He was either begging, getting beat up, or sleeping. Even if he did the chance to rest he still had to move every and now and then to relieve the pressure his bruises were causing him.

After what he thought was a full half day of just sitting in the room, he finally heard footsteps. It was two different footsteps actually. One was the simple leather step sounds of Roan's shoes. The other sounded like high heels and were very light compared to the bigger man next to her.

As they stepped though the door Yuhe saw a familiar face, followed by a new one. One with long black hair that fell down to her hips. It actually wasn't that long though, as she looked to be 5'4 at the greatest. Her orange hair was lush and plentiful, and her body was slender and petite with an annoyed face that seemed slightly overworked and her pale skin was clean and had little to no blemishes. The man next to her didn't really change much in the past half hour, other than that he seemed slightly annoyed. And to further show this his eyebrows furrowed angrily as he began to speak.

"So... Who are you?"

"Uhmm. Pardon?" Yuhe remembered the words Miss Major told him very well. He had to take some time to answer each question and understand what they want to hear, more importantly, he had to be very nice and not piss off the Lunar representatives.

The question asked by Roan was loaded and had to have some secrets attached to it. But Yuhe took it at face value.

"Well my name is Yuhe, and I guess I've been living in some abandoned village close to here for the past 17 years. Recently I was unfortunate enough to be attacked by a stray wolf abomination that came from a portal near where i was, it was either fight or die. So i fought. I guess that's that's why I'm here." Yuhe said his sentence and finished it with a slight smile towards the two people facing him.

"Okay thank you for being so transparent with your life as of so far. And I'm sorry I didn't ask the question correctly. What I was trying to say was-" Roan was cut off by his suspected superior.

"Why do we have nothing on you. Your file is empty and we don't have any information about you. For all we know your a spy from Europe that was sent here to blow this whole place up with a ticking rune timebomb."

The girl in the clean suit seemed very heated. But to be fair, she had a point. In the current world, mostly everyone was accounted for. Even if you came from a small isolated town inside the middle of nowhere, you had atleast some achievement. Albeit most of the people inside his town were convicted felons or had parents who were and that caused the system to know them by proxy. But Yuhe was surprising a clean soul, give or take the badmouth he carried often... So they simply had no information on the young boy. Which raised many red flags, and was probably accentuated by him being a mouse. He also had no living ancestors. So it was lead to believe that either the opposition to the Lunar Center had grown too confident, just sending anyone. Or he genuinely was just a goody-two-shoes from a place where you had to be ruthless or die. And it was very unbelievable that the little asshole was actually a decent person...

"Uhm, I don't know how to answer that... I guess your system is outdated?" This was one of the worst responses to the ladies questions he could've done. Honestly, he should've just lied and admitted to being a spy. Atleast his pitiful life would've ended swiftly -minus a few months of torture-.

The lady took a deep breath. "Okay, we started off on the wrong foot. My name is Lisa. You are here to answer any questions we might have with your recent involvement with a portal."

Lisa took another breath and continued "how do you feel? Any involuntary movements? Voices in your head? Were you hit in a place and now you have no control over the surrounding area?"

"As good as ever, actually better than normal, your ventilation system is very admirable.uhm No, and No, I have full control over my body." Yuhe was going to stand up to show that but he couldn't move for some reason.

Roan quickly noticed and responded to Yuhe's clear worry with a simple "For our safety the second you sat down it activated our rune prism to trap you there until broken free." Roan then grimaced slightly before mouthing a silent "Sorry."

"I can understand it. Don't worry I'm not offended and won't hide any information from you guys." Yuhe was lying through his teeth but how were they supposed to know? As far as he knew -which was very little- there were no seers around anywhere in the world and even if there was, why would they spend precious time deciphering the truths and lies from whatever he was saying?

"Thank you for not being offended" Lisa said firmly. "So are you fine with explaining what exactly happened to you? A few minutes before the portal opened and a few minutes after it closed please, and more details on the monster that came out."

"Why wouldn't I be? It all started on the side of the road-" Yuhe then explained his side of the story... Of course, the story where he and those thugs went 1 versus 4 against the wolf, and that those thugs were his friends, and that what he supposed was the Sun Lord didn't save his skin, and that a demon never came out of the portal, and that he actually didn't move a muscle the whole time because he was frozen in fear.

But other than that, he told the truth and nothing but it.

After the story the two scientists seemed much more surprised than they should be. 'Did I accidentally say something stupid?'.

After some time the more senior scientist, Lisa said chillingly, which was much different than her normal personality so far. "Yuhe, what you just described is known as a Feral Dire Hound. And it must've been a high tier, atleast a 4 to have made its own portal."

Lisa and Roan were pretty good friends, they were primarily work friends but often hung out near eachother during work events, like during the department celebration of discovering a new way to produce heat that was almost 35% cheaper to produce than their European competitors. They worked together very well too, often talking to eachother to vent, strategize, or just calm down while watching the other stress out over a large workload.

So it wasn't out of the blue when Roan asked Lisa for some help. He couldn't find a single thing about the boy who is sitting inside Interigation Room 9. There seemed to be no information at all about him on the internet, nor the super high intel computers issued by their supermega parent company. Roan was stumped and needed help so he asked Lisa.

Lisa turned out to also be stumped after doing some of her own research for about 10 minutes before just giving up and saying "Alright this little mouse has to be hiding something. The rune prison activated right?"

"Yes don't worry, he's stuck in place" Roan said firmly

"Then we are going in there and getting something out of him. I don't care if he dies from fear because of me."

"I don't think anyone will die of fear from you Lisa..."

After that exchange Roan and Lisa walked into the room where the young boy was sitting clearly impatient. Roan, -with an annoyed expression because Lisa surprisingly packed a good gut punch despite being half his weight- started off by asking a simple question. Which the boy answered rather snarkly.

Masking his annoyance rather perfectly, he asked another question and was given yet another bad response. While trying to clarify his question Lisa spoke up loudly over him and took control of the interrogation. What she was expecting wasn't exactly an information filled response from Yuhe, but she was expecting another annoying answer hiding some extreme thing he refused to let out for some reason. They didn't know what it was. But the young boy was hiding something, and he was going to crack real soon. What they didn't know was that the absurd information the boy was about to tell them was all a lie...

After hearing the insane news about the fight at the portal, Lisa looked at Roan and saw that he was stunned. He looked like he saw a ghost. Lisa probably looked the same. But she quickly tried to fixed her face but ended up talking with a face full of chilling fear like the wolf was about to appear next to her.

"Yuhe, what you just described is known as a Feral Dire Hound. And it must've been a high tier, atleast a 4 to have found its own portal alone."

Roan was still frozen in fear, no wonder. Because he had been working around a year or 2 less than her. Let alone saw the horrors of the old training tapes of situations where they would interagate a spy, thankfully they were quickly discontinued and forgotten about by the new hires. Anyways...

Lisa said with some of the color returning to her face "I see you are confused. This is the general chart to abomination power levels...

Abominations are broken down into 6 classes and 10 tiers. The lower the number, the lesser the threat. The tiers and classes are separate, which means they represent different things when deciding the power of an abomination. The classes go like this.

1.Feral, 2.Malevolent, 3.Blighted, 4.Cataclysmic, 5.Voidborn, and lastly 6.World Destroyer.

These are here to measure the general power of the monster, they include a lot of facts about the monster, some of those being the Intelligence of the monster, if it has multiple ways to kill a human easily, any secret weapons, and many more small things go into deciding the Class ranking.

Next there are tiers. These are less broad and only measure the Inner Control of the Gifted Power bestowed upon the abomination. Oh, by the way, Gifted Power is the power that all abominations possess, it what differs them from a simple animal to a demon or Demigod. Anyways, the tiers are measured by first knowing the Gifted Power of the abomination and then seeing how well the abomination can control the power. We call that the Inner Control for short.

The Dire Hound you faced was only a Feral, thankfully. They typically travel in packs but I guess since that one had great control it either got kicked out by the leaders in fear of being replaced by the rising abomination and had to survive by itself, or it simply just left its predetermined pack for some reason. Anyways, the Dire Hound had a suspected tier of 4, meaning it had great control over its Gifted Power. The known Gifted Power of a Dire Hound is that they can manipulate the minds of those near it to fear them into a cowered state, making them easier to kill. While that doesn't sound like it explains the reason it found a portal, we have assumed that whatever leads these abominations towards our world via the portals has greater effect on the minds of animals once they hit the higher tiers and therefore hogher understanding of their Gifted Powers.

I know that's a lot of boring information but trust me. It's very important." Lisa was a smart women, she didn't seem to be lying whilst spewing all that information so Yuhe believed her and took it all at face value. Trying his hardest to stamp it on his brain and remember it for the rest of his life.

"We will give you an apartment and some time to digest the information we just gave you. We will be meeting again shortly in the future. So stay here and don't cause any trouble inside the main city." Lisa said that last part with an especially high amount of strain and importance in her voice.

"I understand. I'll be waiting patiently for our next meeting" Yuhe smiled

"We will to. You are dismissed someone else will show you your housing once you leave the room... Now if you can, go on and let me tend to Roan, seems like you really surprised him." Lisa smiled as Yuhe walked out of the room. It seemed that tough and cold act she had on during the beggining of the meeting had already disappeared. Replaced by what seemed like a general concern for his well being.

Yuhe still remembered Miss Major's words to him carefully though

'Do not trust the Lunar Center'
