We humans are the most advanced and intelligent species in the world. That's a fact that we've known for many centuries. However, this hasn't always helped us for the better. Despite being intelligent, we had established slavery, waged war, killed innocents in the name of God, made nuclear weapons, and wasted natural resources .
we humans made many mistakes in the past and may continue to do so in the future. However, our mistakes are becoming increasingly costly. Now with a single press we can destroy our world in mere moments.
It is time we change our way of doing things. Halt every aggressive development that can destroy humans and our ecosystem. Make use of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, lightning, storm, and much more alike from which we can harness energy and use it.
But here we are,instead of doing those things, i am screaming at others with a blog .
By the way, I am Hitoshi. I am a scientist. i used to own a company just 2 months ago, but was kicked out of there. Apparantly i had taken a good amount of load start it. Which didn't exactly go as planned as you can guess from the result.
Well maybe it wasn't meant to be from the begining.
Cause now just after 2 months I have got an offer from Cryonics Corporation for a job. Well from the begining i may not have the talent for business i can be quite a bit of crafty with computer and many types of gadgets. They needed someone with my skillset so i got lucky i guess.
Cryonics Corporation's main work was, getting people into a sleeping pod where their body liquid was extracted and a special liquid was injected, then afterwards they were frozen. So that a person's body can be preserved. In the future, when the technology becomes more advanced and the person can be revived without any memory loss or body function loss, they will be awakened so that they can enjoy the future and its wonders.
The people who buy this service are mostly crazy rich. They reserve a pod for themselves so that when they kick the bucket, their body can be immediately transported to the facility so that the company can freeze them with proper procedure. Currently there is no technology or method by which they can reverse this process. But they are quite sure the technology for achiving this will be possible near future. Despite not having any way to awake the person and make them alive and well before many people even healthy and alive people were also taking part in this process just they can wake up in the future. They chose future instead of present. I dont think i can ever relate to them.
This technology might seem like sci-fi to some people who don't follow the development technological advancements, but as a scientist who works to make this technology better and safe to use, I can say, despite being in its early development, it holds huge potential.
Year 2020
I have been working at the Cryonics Corporation for close to a decade. We have perfected the chambers as perfectly as we could. I would have liked to make it safer to use, but unfortunately, we don't have time. About 3 years ago, my wife got a rare type of cancer that seems to be untreatable with the current technology. So she has 2 options, either die painfully in the hope for the medical technology to get a treatment which is still in it's early experimental stage, or get into the cryo-chamber to freeze herself so that her body cells' functions can be slowed down by 1000 times by going into hibernation. So that in the future, when the appropriate treatments have been developed, she can be treated. We decided we will try for the hibernation pod, without waiting for the treatment to develop we will go towards the treatment itself.
My wife is the only family I have in the whole world. I can do anything for her, even if it means sacrificing my life, my career. So i did what any man in love with a woman would have do, I got into a cryo-chamber right alongside her, so that when she wakes up, she doesn't feel alone and we get to live a life together in a far future eutopia where she doesn't have to fear any disease like cancer.
Year 2110
I opened my eyes. Saw the door of my pod open up with a *hiss* sound. A human-like figure came close to me and grabbed my right hand and gently pulled me up. Then that person pulled me up with both hands and put me in a wheelchair-like thing. I couldn't see clearly and also couldn't even think clearly, everything seemed like blur and confusing. But I somehow understood that he was helping me to get somewhere. He gestured with his hand in a certain way, which seemed to be a command for my wheelchair to move forward. I went to a white room where almost 10-15 men-woman were sitting in similar chairs. A person similar to that previous person was taking people's hands and placing them in a device that seemed to inject something like a liquid into their hand.
After getting a shot of that strange liquid myself, I was getting quite a clear-minded and understood what was happening. We were getting injected with something that was for our body and mind to get more relaxed and easier to use. I got the idea that maybe sleeping for many years might have affected our digestive system,brain and body movement got a little stiff, so to make our body functions work perfectly, they are injecting something. If I recall, our facility didn't have this white room. Plus, the people who were guiding us up till now were probably some kind of robot. Which was far from 2020s technological capability. This could only mean one thing: *We were in the future*.
After 5 minutes of asking around, I found out it was year 2110. And we were the 12th batch of people who were awakened It seemed the order of waking up people 1st to last was decided upon the condition of the person. If the person was already dead before preserving their body, then they were to be the last to wake. If they were alive and healthy, then it would be 1st. The order of waking up was healthy>unhealthy>critical patients>dead person. And every batch was awakened one batch per month. If it were true, then my wife is supposed to wake up in about 5 months.
`Okay, I just have to spend 5 months. No problem. It is even better, now I have some time to explore before she wakes up to get acquainted with this future and learn how to navigate life here, what to do for work. Well do we even have to work? It might be possible that humans' food production has become tech-dependent. Where they dont even have to dont have to pay for eating basic food.
One of the robots took me to a room and handed me a table for internet use. The room had a bed, some type of packet food and a water bottle.
`Maybe they thought we might be comfortable using devices we were familiar with, that's why, for now, they got us a tablet and food from our generation. '
Then I began browsing with the tablet for tring to see some history to know what had happened till now. lying down in the super comfy bed and eating a good flavoured bread which is definitely not from our generation i got quite relaxed.
Browsing through the tablet, I noticed I was seeing only light-hearted news, violence, or major disturbing news. I figured maybe they knowingly censored or blocked some news for us, which may cause harm mentally just after waking up from a sleep so long. So I got to thinking something big must have happened to make them censor those, i noticed from around 2025 to 2060, some news seems almost unnatural. likesomeone tampered with. Looked like something big happened in this period for them to delete those and put some made-up news to fill in the gaps. Which might seem perfect to most people, but it seemed too perfect to me.
The next day upon waking up first thing i did was, i started searching for my wife's cryo-chamber. Upon asking some robots, they took me to a human, and said that that their boss would explain everything. It seemed like the human was in charge of this facility now.
"Sir, please sit".
I sat in a chair that looked more like a massage chair than a normal siting chair. He then gestured his finger in a certain way, then an ultra-realistic hologram started on the table in front. I got spooked for a second.
"Sir, you see, our AI says that they detected you have already developed suspicion that during the 90 years you have been sleeping, something big happened."
"Why are you trying to say that i am wrong".
"No sir, You are correct in your suspicion. But what you didn't suspect was the scale of the things that happened. I assume from your behaviorale data that you are quite curious now, upon hearing this. Am I right?"
I got a little startled by his observation. But then I understood they must have developed AI to a superior level from my time. So tracking my behavior at all times with precise details is not impossible. I then responded irritably, "I can learn about history some other time. I would prefer to know where my wife is now. I would like to visit her chamber. Can you please get to that point directly?"
Then he started saying some bullshit which boiled my blood instantly.
"Sir, you see around 2050, some had decided to wake peoplefrom hibernation to test if the awakening process works or not. So, as usual, they tested it in various animals to see if the awakened technology was perfected or not. After getting good results, they tried it on a batch of people. But several of them had some side effects. It seems, among those batches were your wife."
I was hearing this, and my heart was beating fast, and I was having a headache. But I held on to hear the rest, aand said "continue"
in a low voice.
"We know that in that batch, around 10 people had sustained brain damage due to a technical issue with the technology they used at that time. But what happened to them afterwards, we don't know yet. You see, right after you guys had gone into the hibernation chamber in 2020, World War 3 started in 2026. So many infrustructure,buildings were damaged. Our facility was no exception. In that chaotic situation, some hibernation pods were kidnapped by the enemy side as hostages. And even after the war ended, they had not returned the chambers for hostage use. Then, as I have said in 2050, they experimented with the awakening process. Upon failure they erased any records of the pods and the experiment itself. By the time in 2060, we had defeated the enemy nations fully, and those hibernation pods and the customers were nowhere to be found. Even after all those years we failed to locate them, even though we have every records of human being , we have eyes on every living species on earth, and every nation is on our *Super-AI* 's observation, we didn't find any of those people. We are extremely sorry for your loss dear customer. We hope you overcome your loss and find comfort in this new world which we have built for people as kind-hearted as you."
I know I can't get on his bad side, so even though I had a lot to say and pent-up rage, I couldn't utter a single word with my mouth.
I thought to myself, `So all this was for nothing. If I don't have my wife beside me, what have I even come for in the future? I felt like my intire world had shattered in million pieces`.
