"Kyahahaha, then I won't hold back!"
Ignoring the unconscious Kakuzu, Renya strode straight into the vault.
With this much money, maybe not enough to rival a whole nation, but definitely enough to rival a whole village.
Though he wasn't entirely sure about the exact value of gold in the Shinobi World.
If this fortune were to appear in the Shinobi World, it would absolutely drive everyone mad.
Ninja villages never had proper industries; they relied solely on completing missions to make money. The villages' finances were always in deficit, barely sustained by subsidies from the country's daimyō each year.
The wealth inside this vault alone was equivalent to several years of the Fire Country's financial allocations to Konohagakure.
Even for a daimyō with vast riches and control over a nation's treasury, handing over that much in one go would still make him feel the pain.
But Renya now truly possessed such an enormous fortune.
Even if Kakuzu had been a bounty hunter ever since Konoha's founding, working nonstop until the Boruto era, he wouldn't have earned this much.
Didn't you see? The guy fainted the moment he discovered the vault!
Renya took out a series of storage scrolls and began packing gold bars and cash. It took him several hours to finish sealing everything away.
There was just too much money.
The storage scrolls had limited capacity, and it took dozens of them to barely contain it all.
During this time, Kakuzu regained consciousness several times. Each time, he saw Renya busily moving piles of gold in the vault—and then promptly passed out again in anger.
"Tell your boss that if he ever runs into trouble, he can come to Konoha and find me!"
Renya patted his chest confidently, looking as righteous as ever.
It wasn't that he wanted to act righteous—he just couldn't help it.
Even if it were Tobirama here instead of him, he'd have said the same thing.
After all, the mysterious boss had been way too generous.
Renya even began to suspect that the boss was trying to raise him as a disposable death knight…
Still, having a boss like that—what's wrong with being his death knight?
Others wouldn't even have the chance if they wanted to.
"Renya-sama, I'll make sure your message reaches the boss," the old shopkeeper said respectfully.
He hadn't expected the boss to value Renya so highly—enough to hand over all the money accumulated by the exchange house.
"This is your tip."
Renya pulled out his shriveled wallet and dumped out three coins, handing them to the old shopkeeper without hesitation.
The old man's mouth twitched as he accepted the generous reward of three hundred ryō.
Good grief—after emptying the vault, this was what he got?
"Here, take a little more."
Renya felt a bit embarrassed and pulled out the few remaining silver notes in his wallet.
If he hadn't come to rob the place today, he really wouldn't have had money left to eat.
Fortunately, thanks to Kakuzu's and the bounty hunters' "donations," plus the mysterious boss's reward, Renya had gone from a penniless poor kid to a rich man rivaling an entire village.
"Thank you for your generosity, Renya-sama," the old shopkeeper said gratefully.
"Kid, don't forget about me when you're rich, meow."
Scar, the fat cat, approached Renya obsequiously, rubbing against his pant leg.
Now that Renya was loaded, that meant the cat wouldn't have to worry about money ever again!
"Don't tell Madara-sama about this, or you're not getting a single coin."
Renya glared at the cat threateningly.
This fortune was too massive—no one could find out!
He wasn't afraid of most people knowing, but if Uchiha Madara did… what if he came asking for money?
Sure, Madara might not care about wealth, but better safe than sorry.
He'd need this money for big things in the future, and no one—not even Madara—could take it from him.
"I understand, meow," the fat cat replied instantly. "I'll only tell Madara-sama that you robbed the exchange house, meow."
After all, Madara-sama had ordered it to keep a close watch on Renya, never missing a single move. It couldn't possibly hide everything.
It was a professional ninja cat—it couldn't betray its master for a bit of money.
Well… selling out just a little bit didn't count as betrayal, right…
...
Just then, Kakuzu—who had been lying unconscious on the ground—slowly came to.
He suddenly sat up and looked toward the vault, now completely empty.
"Was that… a dream?" he muttered.
He could've sworn he'd seen piles upon piles of gold and cash before. He'd never seen that much money in his life.
"You're not dreaming. I emptied it all," Renya said cheerfully, feeling generous now that he was rich.
"You… you emptied it?!" Kakuzu's voice trembled as he stared at Renya, eyes wide. "You took all of it?!"
If he weren't weaker than Renya, he would've already killed this bastard.
That damned brat didn't even leave him a single note!
Beast. Utter beast!
If he hadn't met Renya that day, his hard-earned fortune wouldn't have been stolen, and the vault's wealth would've all belonged to him.
Damn it. Nothing good ever comes from meeting that guy!
The thought that all that money had fallen into Uchiha Renya's hands made Kakuzu's face twist in grief and rage—like he'd just lost his mother.
His blood pressure shot up instantly; he nearly died from anger on the spot.
Even years later, whenever Kakuzu recalled this day, he would still feel bitter resentment.
Of course, that's a story for another time.
"Kakuzu, I'm treating you to dinner," Renya said, throwing an arm around his shoulder like an old friend.
After earning that much, he had to celebrate somehow.
Kakuzu's face darkened. Using his own stolen money to treat him? Truly worthy of an evil-born Uchiha.
Because of this event, Kakuzu's hatred toward the Uchiha clan began to grow—even surpassing his loathing for Tobirama from the Warring States era.
Still, faced with Renya's invitation, Kakuzu merely snorted coldly—but didn't refuse.
He wasn't about to pass up a free meal. At least he could eat some of his stolen money back!
As for that bastard who robbed him… he'd settle that score once he was stronger.
Renya also invited the old shopkeeper, but the latter politely declined.
At the end of the busiest commercial street in the Land of Rivers stood a towering three-story scarlet pavilion.
It was the most expensive restaurant in the entire country.
Rumor had it that a single meal here could cost an ordinary ninja half a year's worth of mission rewards. Usually, only daimyō or wealthy merchants could afford to dine here.
...
Inside one of the restaurant's luxurious private rooms—
Kakuzu took the menu, glanced at the outrageous prices, and pointed at the cheapest few dishes.
"Don't bring these. I'll take one of everything else!"
"Understood, please wait a moment!" the waiter replied quickly, clearly recognizing a big spender when he saw one.
After that, Kakuzu leaned back in his chair with satisfaction, shooting a smug look at Renya across the table.
Heh. Let's see how you like this, you rich brat.
Renya glanced at the menu, seeing dish prices with five digits each, and smirked disdainfully.
If this were before, he would've turned around and left without a word—probably calling the place a scam on his way out.
But now? Things were different. This was pocket change!
"Who do you think you're looking down on?"
Renya waved his hand grandly, the very image of a nouveau riche.
"Waiter! Bring two of each dish!"
Kakuzu: "..."
