Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Danzo’s Overjoyed

"Kid, where are you going?"

Renya put on his flak jacket and adjusted his ninja tool pouch, securing Immaculate at his waist.

Just as he stepped out of the house, he ran into Senju Tobirama.

"Tobirama-san, I'm heading to the mission hall to take on a task," Renya explained.

Senju Tobirama frowned instinctively, a hint of displeasure in his eyes.

"You're leaving again right after returning to the village?"

Could this kid really not sit still at home?

"It's been a long time since I last took a mission. Slacking off too much isn't good."

Since Renya had already said this much, what more could Tobirama say?

He could only silently watch as Renya walked out of the courtyard.

Once Renya was completely out of sight, Senju Tobirama turned and entered the study, his face dark.

"I knew I shouldn't have let that brat off the hook last night..."

He had wanted to let Renya rest for one night. Who would've thought it would turn out like this?

...

After leaving home, Renya didn't head straight to the mission hall.

Instead, he planned to find his old teammates and go on a mission together.

"I wonder if the two of them have been doing missions these past few months?" Renya muttered to himself.

If they were already on missions, wouldn't that mean they were short one teammate?

That would make things harder for the two of them.

After all, Danzo and Koharu were only at the special jōnin level. Their combined strength couldn't compare to a full jōnin.

Unless they avoided A-rank missions, they'd definitely need to work as a team.

And a strong teammate was essential for proper teamwork.

With that in mind, Renya quickly made his way to the Shimura compound and arrived at Danzo's doorstep.

"Is Danzo home?" Renya knocked on the door.

Not long after, a middle-aged woman opened it. Upon seeing Renya, she smiled warmly.

"It's Renya-kun. Please wait a moment, I'll go call Danzo."

"Thank you," Renya nodded politely.

Before the woman had even left, Danzo appeared at the door.

"Uchiha Renya, you're finally back," Danzo said, unable to hold back a complaint. "Where the hell have you been all this time?"

At first, Renya had said they were getting a couple of days off.

But a few days later, they were shocked to find Renya had vanished without a trace.

They even searched for him for a while—only to come up empty-handed.

The two of them even started to suspect Renya had met with some misfortune…

"Sorry, I was out traveling for a few months," Renya scratched his nose awkwardly.

There was nothing he could do about it—Senju Hashirama's invitation had come so suddenly,

He hadn't even had time to tell the others.

He thought he wouldn't be gone long, but who could've predicted it'd turn into a three-month trip?

"You're telling me you went traveling?" Danzo's eyes widened in shock, his voice rising. "For three whole months?!"

"Calm down, I'm back now, aren't I?" Renya casually dug a finger in his ear.

"You bastard, do you even know what I've been through these past three months?!" Danzo stormed forward and grabbed Renya by the collar.

Thinking back on those months, Shimura Danzo could barely breathe.

With Renya gone, only he and Koharu were left to handle the missions.

It was fine when facing regular enemies—the two of them could manage by working together.

But against jōnin-level enemies? They struggled.

Especially when the opponents came as three-man squads—Danzo and Koharu simply couldn't keep up.

Even when they did win, it was always a hard-fought victory.

Eventually, they stopped accepting A-rank missions altogether.

If Renya hadn't returned, they'd have had no choice but to join Sarutobi Hiruzen's team.

Thank goodness that bastard finally came back.

But what infuriated Danzo the most was that Renya had just vanished—just to go sightseeing?!

And he didn't even bring them with him!

That bastard had gone off to enjoy himself while they nearly got themselves killed on missions.

Just thinking about himself coughing up blood from enemy attacks while Renya was enjoying fine dining in some luxurious restaurant…

Danzo clenched his fists, nearly punching Renya's smug face on the spot.

"Danzo, calm down," Renya swallowed nervously.

Seeing Danzo this agitated, he was seriously worried the guy might actually hit him...

"Calm down? You want me to calm down?!" Danzo was shouting so loudly, his spit landed all over Renya's face.

Just as Danzo was about to keep ranting, his eyes suddenly locked with a pair of scarlet Sharingan—and his whole body froze.

"Hehehe…"

Drool began to drip from his mouth. No one knew what he was seeing in the genjutsu.

"Finally, some peace and quiet," Renya sighed, rubbing his temples.

Danzo's temper really seemed to be getting worse.

It looked like he was slowly becoming that cunning and ruthless schemer from the original story...

Still, things weren't that bad yet. He was just short-tempered. Tolerable, for now.

If he got too out of line, Renya could just beat him up a bit to keep him in check.

With that thought, Renya dispelled the genjutsu.

"Renya, you bastard!" Danzo wiped the drool from his mouth. "Fine, I'll let it slide this time."

He hadn't expected Renya to hit him with a genjutsu like that.

Honestly, he didn't even want to wake up from it…

As expected, a genjutsu tailored to the target's desires works best!

Don't get the wrong idea—Renya had simply made Danzo the Hokage inside the illusion.

Oh, and Sarutobi Hiruzen had stood before him, wearing a look of envy, jealousy, and frustration.

Even though Renya hadn't seen the illusion himself, he could easily imagine Danzo's grin stretching all the way to his ears.

No joke—this move worked perfectly on Danzo.

It might be a B-rank genjutsu for others, but for Danzo, it was an S-rank technique.

Let's call this genjutsu [Danzo's Overjoyed Heaven].

From now on, if Danzo's ever in a bad mood, this genjutsu should be enough to turn his stormy skies sunny again.

Danzo still seemed lost in the afterglow of the genjutsu. His face was flushed red.

If only one day he could actually become Hokage...

The scene inside the genjutsu had been crafted just for him.

That look in Hiruzen's eyes—it had been perfect.

Shock, confusion, helplessness, unwillingness, regret, jealousy, envy—all rolled into one. The perfect portrait!

Recalling the scene, if Renya hadn't been standing right there, Danzo would've burst out laughing on the spot.

Guess he had material for tonight's dream now...

Renya looked at Danzo, who was still zoning out, a confused expression on his face.

What was going on? Hadn't he already lifted the genjutsu?

Why was Danzo still like this?

Don't tell me… my eye power has gotten stronger?!

But soon, he realized Danzo was just spacing out.

Renya waved a hand in front of Danzo's face, and finally Danzo snapped back to reality.

"Ahem, sorry. I spaced out a bit just now." Danzo's face was as red as a monkey's butt as he turned his head to avoid Renya's gaze.

Looking at Danzo's expression, Renya sighed inwardly.

"Looks like [Danzo's Overjoyed Heaven] is even stronger than I imagined. It's already affecting the real world."

Better be careful when using this one...

If this guy really takes it to heart, that could be trouble.

After all, at fourteen or fifteen years old, it's easy to blur the line between fantasy and reality.

That'd be a real problem.
