Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Laughter in the Halls, Silence in the Woods

The school corridors buzzed with noise—shoes squeaking, lockers slamming, and careless laughter bouncing off the walls. But none of it touched Aira Moonstone.

She walked silently, books hugged tightly to her chest, eyes down.Just another shadow in a school full of golden wolves.

"Hey, watch it, Omega!"

A thick shoulder slammed into her. Her books flew from her arms and scattered across the floor. Aira stumbled and fell hard on her knees, a sharp pain shooting through her wrist.

The hallway erupted in laughter.

The one who knocked her down didn't even flinch. It was Kade, one of her brother Jack's cocky friends—and future warrior of the pack. Just like Jack. Just like every other spoiled boy with a bloodline.

"Oops," Kade smirked. "Didn't see the floor rat crawling around."

More laughter.

Aira stayed on the ground, biting the inside of her cheek to keep the tears from showing.

And then she looked up.

Jack was standing right there. Her own brother. Leaning against the lockers. Watching it all. He didn't say a word. Just looked away like she didn't exist.

That hurt worse than the fall.

Further down the hall, Asher Thorne had seen it all.

His golden eyes narrowed, and his wolf growled inside him.

Protect her.

He didn't know why. He didn't even know her name.

Just that the sight of her on the floor, surrounded by jeering voices, made his entire body coil with rage.

But he stayed still.A future Alpha. Trained to hold his control.

Still… his fists clenched.

Aira was starting to gather her books when she felt heat.A cup of something steaming hovered above her head.

And then—splash.

Hot coffee poured over her back and soaked through her hoodie, staining her books, her clothes, her skin.

A gasp rose from the crowd.

Irene Blackvale stood above her, empty cup in hand, a cruel smile twisting her lips.

"Oops. Didn't see you there, poor little mutt.""You must be starving, huh? Thought I'd help you warm up."

The hallway went quiet for a second. No one stopped her.No one helped.

Because no one cared.

Irene flipped her hair and strutted off, her heels clicking like gunshots.

Lila pushed through the crowd, eyes wide with fury and panic. She dropped to her knees beside Aira, reaching out—

But Aira shook her head slightly, her eyes pleading.Don't.If they see you helping me, they'll target you too.

Lila froze. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she nodded.

"I'll wait outside," she whispered. "Okay?"

Aira forced a shaky smile and stood slowly, her coffee-soaked hoodie clinging to her skin, her pride bleeding.

No one noticed that her hands were trembling not with weakness—But with the pressure of holding herself together.

She didn't go to class.

She didn't care.

She ran.

Out of the school, across the field, past the tree line—Until she was deep in the woods.

Only here could she breathe.Only here did the world go quiet.

Here, she wasn't the broken daughter. She wasn't the weak omega. She was just… Aira.
