"I'm leaving, if you want anything, you can tell me."
The cat demon whose name Evy still didn't know was lounging on a soft pillow on her sofa surrounded by snacks and bowls of milk. There was an animation show playing and it curled comfortably. The tail was twitching slowly as if irritated by her sudden question.
The cat looked at her exasperatedly.
"Okay, okay, I'm leaving."
The moment she stepped into the portal, the cat looked over with a gleam in its eyes.
Evy stood waiting for her superior officer in the lobby of their building. She knew almost every officer because of her grandmother but this was a work situation so she was sure that she would get scolded first. She played with her fingers while watching the huge clock before her.
"You are here, come on, let's go."
Evy found the person she was waiting for was more than an acquaintance. It was Brent, the demigod who was the partner of the crow demon she had met earlier.
"How come it's you? Isn't this your off time?"
Brent was a demigod and his powers were mostly leaning towards metaphysics.
"I calculated so I was not on duty today."
"What about your bonded demon?"
Brent walked in large steps so she was jogging to keep up with him.
"He is at home, eating his dinner, hopefully."
He sighed. His crow was known everywhere as the naughtiest demon. The crow liked to irritate people with words and they all came to fight with Brent later. That's why many felt that demons were worse than spirit animals.
Spirit animals were enlightened as soon as they were born. Unlike demon animals who got enlightened in the presence of demonic energy, spirit animals were just blessed by nature.
But Evy didn't care. As long as the animal liked her, demon or spirit, it didn't matter.
"Where are we going?"
"To Rose Gardens. The person," he paused,"the kid who saw you is there. And guess how he saw you?"
She shook her head. She had no idea.
"He had a drone flying there. As a joke, and he found you."
Apparently, kids made a bet about an abandoned ghost place and luckily found a ghostly activity and posted it on social media. The society caught it and deleted the video and now they were going to make the human kid forget the real incident. Simple.
The portal could only take them to a human world checkpoint. From there, they had to use a car to reach their destination.
The place Rose Gardens was a rich community. Brent used his ID card to gain entry and then they soon arrived at a villa. It had a nice jasmine garden.
"Let's go. I do the talking. You just stare."
She nodded. She was happy that she wasn't doing anything here.
Brent rang the intercom of the villa and soon, the butler came to receive them.
"Our young master is working at the moment. Can you wait for a while?"
Brent smiled and agreed.
They were brought to a visiting room and then snacks were served.
Evy thought that her cat would love these snacks.
"Uncle, who is here?"
A kid ran in.
A six-year-old kid appeared before them and Evy understood that this was the kid who inadvertently shot her.
Brent smiled.
"You are so cute."
The kid wasn't scared. He sat on the other side and picked up a cookie.
"Little master, young master forbade you from more cookies."
The kid put it down and then looked at Brent.
"Uncle, who are you?"
"I'm here to meet your uncle."
The kid nodded like he understood.
Evy found that the kid was more interested in the snacks than he was in them. And Brent took advantage of the situation and looked deeply into the kid's eyes.
"You were watching cartoons today," He spoke in a slow manner, "Right?"
The kid nodded slowly.
"Yes!"
Brent nodded happily.
"Nice, my favorite is a little train, what's yours?"
"Uncle, don't you watch Pig Warriors?"
He looked at Brent as if he committed a huge sin by not choosing the show as his favorite.
"Oh no, I don't know about Pig Warriors."
"Hmph, then I don't want to talk to you."
The kid ran away.
"Mr. Butler, there is an emergency, we will come to meet your master again later."
Brent took Evy and left the place.
As they were driving, Evy asked him the question that was plaguing her mind.
"It's done?"
Brent laughed.
"Evy, do you realize that none of them will remember meeting us today?"
"Even the butler?"
"Even the butler!"
How?
"Vocal cues, vocal magic, as soon as I stepped out the door, they will forget the encounter with us. Now, your video is deleted from the real device, our job is done. No harm done."
Well, except for her one merit point that was lost, there was really no other harm done. Maybe the chicken demon would like to say otherwise but no one needed the input from the chicken demon.
"Okay, I'll drop you home."
Evy actually lived in the human world. Because she was doing this independent thing, she chose to live in an apartment her dad bought for her.
So, when she came back happily wanting to see the cat, she found a surprise waiting for her.
Two cats lying on the floor with her apartment turned upside down. Broken vases that would cause her father to throw a fit- Do you know I bought them in auctions? Food packets opened and dripping juices. Stained sofa and opened pillows.
She found the culprit cats. Black and white, sleeping peacefully like angels.
She waited for them to wake up. Demon animals had strong immunity and she was sure they would notice her arrival.
But the arrogant cat paid no attention to her after waking.
"Why is home not the way I left it?"
"Is that my problem?"
"Is this your sister?"
The black cat looked at her curiously.
And she meowed.
Evy felt her heart melting. But she had to tell them not to break everything. She couldn't afford to clean her home so many times. Once a day made her exhausted already.
"Um, cat, do you want to live in a dirty place like this?"
The cat looked around and its whiskers moved.
"See, I can't clean everything perfectly. What if you can still smell the food after I clean? How about you not make it dirty?"
"I'll try."
That was nice and happy.
She cleaned and the two cats watched her. The black cat sometimes helped her.
"So, what's your name?"
Now that the hovering shadow of the memory-erase incident was gone from her head, she could confidently concentrate on getting to know her cat.
"Fox!"
Fox?
"Not Snow White?"
"No, she is Wolf from Snow white."
"Isn't wolf from Red Riding Hood?"
The cat Fox thought and nodded.
"Yes, my sister Wolf."
This made Evy wonder about the names of their parents.
"You went and brought her here?"
Fox, the cat sighed and answered, "I can teleport to our home."
"You awakened your powers?"
It's really shocking to know a kitten-level figure to do a trick only full-blown king lions could do. Like a kindergartner solving a problem, physicists couldn't solve.
"Wow, you are awesome, Fox!"
The cat nodded and then looked at Evy seriously.
"I heard there are smartphones in the human world. When can I get one? Ooh, my sister also needs one."
Evy, who didn't own a smartphone herself was stunned.
"I'll get you one today."
Fox nodded happily.
"Yes, your TV doesn't have streaming sites. I couldn't watch my favorite show. Can you check it?"
Evy decided to ask her almighty cousin.
"Anything else?"
She hoped the cat didn't ask her to enroll them in high school now.
"Yes, my sister needs an ID too."
Evy became the adopter of the cat Wolf because she already had a bond initiated with Fox, she could only be a legal guardian to Wolf now.
Evy took Wolf to get an ID and met many other demigods.
"Eves, wanna come to a concert? It's my favorite boy band playing."
She didn't want to agree but Fox and Wolf looked at her with huge eyes.
They went there and met a demon trying to harm the lead singer of the boy band.
Talk about coincidences.
