Hazel's POV
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
It started as a small knot in my stomach. Just a twinge, really. The kind you might get before a big test or an awkward conversation.
But within minutes, it had grown into something monstrous – a cold, creeping dread that slithered up my spine and wrapped around my chest. My heart raced, and sweat beaded on my forehead despite the cool air in the cave.
Something bad was coming.
I just knew it.
"No!" Pip shrieked, his tiny body morphing from human toddler to wolf pup mid-tantrum. His clothes ripped as fur sprouted across his skin. "No, no, no!"
The transformation was still jarring to watch. One second he was a curly-haired little boy with chubby cheeks, the next he was a ball of gray fluff with sharp teeth, growling at Milo who held the stuffed rabbit out of reach.
"Give it back," Lena ordered, hands on her hips as she glared at her brother. "You're being mean."
