Chapter 76 - Chapter 74-Goponga Village

"Well would you look at that; you truly had done it! Wasn't too hard, was it?" Zirka said smugly. Sadly, Zirka's voice could not catch up to Kylia's ears as they were going at the speed of sound.

With a single attempt Kylia was able to master the technique of efficient Mach 1 flight. Taking only a full second to get up to speed Kylia was able boost the efficiency of her flight by tens of thousands of times. She could theoretically stay in the air for years or complete a loop around the world within a little more than a day and a half.

Now, within less than an hour, they had arrived at the periphery of Goponga Village. Kylia touched down and performed Sheikah Transformation on a grassy slope overlooking the village, her boots sinking into damp moss. Below her stretched Goponga Village proper: modest wooden houses on stilts, a scattering of ponds passing between them, and lily pads clustered thick along the slow-moving river that wound through the settlement. Smoke curled from a few chimneys, and somewhere a bell chimed the evening hour.

Despite being such a swampy place, the village was known for raising horses. They were able to use the terrain as stables and were known to be excellent horse riders.

Heading towards the main entrance, Kylia noticed a peculiar sight. At the gates of the village were 250 newly conscripted Hylian calvary solemnly marching along the path in a loose formation. Sprinting off the path to get out of the way, Kylia approached a nearby Hylian traveler with a large backpack on what was going on.

"You really don't know?" Astonished, the traveler began explaining. "The Kylian Demons of the West had taken Kakariko Village! By the King's order, the lord of the Village had gathered the villagers to repel the invaders and liberate our lands…"

The traveler listlessly watched the calvary in the distance while clenching his hands. "Its no different than sending them to their deaths."

Kylia chatted with the traveler for a bit longer about the village and his travels before excusing herself as she was bored of the young traveler's Oldman personality.

Entering village proper, Kylia found an inn and paid the innkeeper twenty Rupees for a room for the night under the name Lia.

The next day Kylia sat in the sparsely populated dining hall alone, grimly swallowing through a bowl of porridge. Try new food Zirka suggested! The food of most of the Hylian population sucks! Even more so during war! Only Hylian nobles have exquisite food.

After finishing breakfast Kylia left the inn and was walking down the main street towards the village exit before a Hylian woman ran by screaming in terror.

"Lizalfos!" the woman bellowed from the street. "Green, blue and even a black Lizalfo, coming up from the east! I count nearly a hundred of them!"

The street filled with commotion in seconds. Kylia followed the crowd out into the square, where the village lord's son was already trying to organize defensive unit of whatever men he could find.

It wasn't much.

Every man of fighting age had gone out twice over. What was left, gathering in the square with pitchforks and hunting bows numbered fifty.

"Well," said the traveler from the gate, looking at the ragtag village forces with his overweight backpack already discarded somewhere and a large sword sheath on his holster. "Guess it's us too! Right?"

"Heh, why should I?" Kylia questioned.

"For the homeland of course! Are you sure you're a Hylian?" He gave Kylia a suspicious look.

Grumbling and annoyed, Kylia had no choice but to follow the villagers to the eastern perimeter of the village. If she had not, her identity would have been exposed right there and then.

The Village Lord's son directed the villagers to set up a defensive front far from the village. Too close and stray Lizalfos would wreak havoc on the village itself.

Out on the marshlands Kylia and the Traveler stood alongside the Village Lord's Son's own guards at the very front of the ragtag army. Their swords made it too hard to stay inconspicuous. Just the hilt of Kylia's sword is impossibly exquisite while the Traveler's sword is impossibly large.

It would be a waste not to use their hidden talents!

Kylia drew Zirka from her sheath as the first green shapes came boiling up out of the marsh grass at the edge of the village, spears, crude blades and farm tools glinting under the morning sun.

This was, Kylia reflected as the first wave closed the distance, going to be annoying.

The Sheikah Transformation Magic transformed her body into an actual Hylian. Normally this would not be a problem for the Sheikah as they are identical to Hylians and use Magical Power to aid their attacks instead of any genetic advantages over Hylians.

However, now transformed into a Hylian Kylia combined with Zirka's strength had dropped from a Half-step Boss Tier to a Blue tier. Without the knowledge of magic and the powerful genetics of a Valor, Kylia must rely on her own combat experience and Zirka's base power to supplement her strength.

Kylia reckons in her current state she would only be strong enough to take on and defeat one Blue Lizalfo at a time during the battle.

The villagers in the back with their hunter bows released their drawstrings, firing a volley of arrows at the incoming Monsters. With only a few headshots knocking some of the Lizalfos temporarily unconscious, the horde continued to push forward.

At the front of the horde one Black Lizalfo followed by ten blue Lizalfos clashed against the Village Lord's son and his guards. The Village Lord's son and his personal forces were no match for the group of elite Lizalfos and were thrown out, leaving only Kylia and the Traveler to face them.

"Hah!" The Traveler lifted his mighty sword before smashing it down with a surge of magic power, white shockwaves echoing across the entire area. The Black Lizalfo staggered back, the ten blue ones were knocked down to the ground and nine Green Lizalfos died instantly.

Luckly Kylia was out of range as she went to help the Village Lord's son exit the intense clash and began farming the green Lizalfos with the powerful blade Zirka.

"Hahahahaha!" Kylia laughed as a Green Lizalfo leapt in slightly from the right. Dodging with a sidestep Kylia held Zirka to her right, the falling Lizalfo decapitating itself on her blade.

The next moment Kylia parried a metal boomerang thrown by a Lizalfo to her forward left. By chance the boomerang arced into the skull of a Lizalfo that was preparing to shoot a jet of water from its mouth.

At the same time Kylia had taken a step back as a Lizalfo managed to get in front of her and swung its head in a sword-like motion.

Then Kylia used the momentum of parrying to perform a roundhouse kick in the same direction as the Lizalfo's head, sending it toppling over the Lizalfo that threw the boomerang.

With both Lizalfo's on the ground and vulnerable, Kylia quickly went in for the kill, quickly hacking their necks with her sword before plunging back into the fight.

With the collective efforts of the Traveler, Kylia and the villagers, the horde of Lizalfo's were eventually repelled after 15 minutes or so, but at what cost*.

Out of the initial 50 villagers excluding Kylia and the Traveler, five remained, including the Village Lord's son and his two bodyguards.

Looking coldly at the blood red marsh of the battlefield with bodies of Lizalfo's and Hylians left to rot, both the survivors let out a collective sigh of weariness.

Exhausted from the battle and unable to do anything about the bodies in the state they are in, the group made their way back towards the village.

"Your name?" The Traveler asked Kylia with a raised eyebrow.

Down from her battle crazed state, Kylia took a moment to think before replying. "Lia, and you?"

With a complicated yet understanding gaze the Traveler responded. "Rodney."

With unsaid realization, both silently continued before parting ways at the village entrance.
