Chapter 5 - THE SUN SHREDDED

Morgtar spoke as they walked through the dirty, damp cave.

"There's no need to be afraid. I'll defeat all the powerful monsters. You just kill the weak ones. There couldn't be a better time to learn your new power. Make good use of it."

Jin nodded and walked on without speaking.

As Jin and Morgtar walked, the path became smoother and less cave-like. The number of man-made stones on the walls began to increase. There were hooks made for torches. Finally, they entered the castle. There was endless darkness. Perhaps there was no sunlight because they were underground. Perhaps the outside was also shrouded in endless darkness. The only thing illuminating the surroundings was the magical lantern in Jin's hand. The structure had been abandoned to decay, and it seemed it would collapse with just a single blow. The castle had been abandoned by human hands and left to nature and endless darkness.

A staircase appeared ahead, and shortly after, they heard someone descending.

'Dum..dum..'

Two Fenharin appeared. One had a wounded right eye and was covered in cuts. The other had lost his front hand and was staggering as he walked.

Jin and Morgtar stood at the top of the stairs. The fenharins looked down at the people below and, feeling a sense of hunger, were about to leap toward them when they fell down the stairs. No, what fell down was only the fenharin's head. The injured fenharin was about to retreat in fear when the enemy in front of him started running toward him. There were only three steps between them. The black-haired man suddenly lunged forward and stabbed his sword into the fenharin. His heart stopped beating, and he died there. The only thing he remembered and felt was that his pain had ended, and he died in peace.

Jin picked up the fuel from the Fenharin lying on the ground and put it in his bag. He didn't know what task the system might assign him if he swallowed it all to ascend now. The system had changed, so it was highly unlikely it would give him the same task from his previous life. Perhaps the task would be to fight naked or to fight without a sword. These conditions encouraged him to ascend at a better time. Jin looked at the corpses one last time and continued walking. Morgtar was already heading upstairs.

I pulled my sword out of the fenharin's head and quickly gathered the loot. During this time, I defeated at least 10 low-level fenharins and collected many Yakuts. They will be very useful in the future and will be enough to pay my morgtar. We climbed the final staircase, and finally I saw the sunlight. I looked out the window and surveyed the surroundings. The area was filled with trees, monsters, and ruined structures. I saw a massive wall. This was human-made! Despite being the Morvak realm, there were human-made structures here. Was this a planet belonging to humans? What shocked me even more was the sky. I looked at the sun but could barely see it. It was shattered. The sun symbolized hope, life, everything, but here the sun was shattered, and its pieces were scattered everywhere. What kind of being could do such a thing? Would everything in my world also be destroyed? Is there no hope? Is there no chance? I know the future, and I can provide hope by preventing what should not happen, but how much can I do? If I encounter a god or a being more powerful than a god, can I defeat them?

The sound of the morgue awakened me from my hopeless thoughts.

"I know how you feel. I was scared and surprised when I first saw it too. I didn't see any hope, but I don't want to give up without doing anything. Whether the goddess exists or not doesn't matter. I will be humanity's hope and future. Even if I die, it won't matter as long as humanity lives on. You can call me stupid, but I want to leave my daughter a future and hope."

Morgtar looked at me and spoke with a sad smile.

"Do you think I can be a good father and a good person if I give up without doing anything?"

I looked at Morgtar and couldn't speak for a few seconds. I felt a little better. Who cares about luck? I'll create my own luck. If fate wants it this way, I'll destroy that fate. If it's a game of God or the goddess, I'll ruin it.

"Thank you."

Without looking back, I walked slowly but quickly through the dirty and ruined corridor.

'BANG!'

Morgtar looked at the giant fenharine in front of him. Even if defeating it would not be difficult for him, using too much power could destroy the castle and attract the attention of the monsters in the vicinity. Morgtar activated the area. Morgtar and the giant fenharin were teleported to an endless white expanse. This ability allows the immortals to create their own territory and pull it into a region where they hold the advantage.

Morgtar looked at the pitiful creature before him. Morgtar was 180 years old. Throughout his entire life, he had knowledge of morvak and many other subjects.

A rapier began to form in the air. A oppressive bloodlust began to emanate from the long, slender rapier. Morgtar gripped the rapier tightly and charged at the creature before him.

****

Mongtar wiped his sword as he looked at the large creature lying on the ground. He should have helped the stranger he had just met, but right now he wanted to test him. Before leaving, he had counted the creatures around him. There were only eight fenharin. If he found a skilled one, he planned to invest in them. Even if the stranger was lying about how he had gotten here, he decided not to dwell on the matter. Everyone has their secrets.

He placed the rapier in his dimensional space and closed the area occupation. As Mongtar was about to return, he remembered he had made a big mistake. Instead of opening the door, he had broken it, causing a loud noise. This would definitely attract the attention of other creatures.

He arrived in the real world and scanned his surroundings with his senses. He found a single living being and ran toward it. The area was completely dark. He used his light-producing ability and looked ahead.

There was a young man covered in blood, with over 20 corpses around him. He was holding a broken sword and a claw in his hand. His body was covered in wounds and scratches. His face was covered in claw marks and bruises. The young man looked at Morgtar and gave a bitter smile.

"I did it,"

After saying that, the young man began to fall forward. Morgtar teleported to the injured man's side and caught him in his arms.

"You did it, little friend."

The injured man did not respond. Morgtar directed his mana toward the man and checked his condition. Although he was injured, he had only fainted. He had used too much mana, and his mana was low, causing him to faint. Mana is the source of life for a mana user. If mana is used up completely, it can even cause death. Morgtar looked at the unconscious jin and smiled. He carried him to a safe place in his arms. It could take hours or even days for him to wake up. He gave the injured jin a healing potion to drink and began to keep watch.

Oh, my head hurts so much. I opened my eyes, holding my head. There was a fire burning next to me, and in front of me was a 50-year-old man with long, white hair, blue eyes that were difficult to understand, and torn, dirty clothes. I panicked and backed away, but then I heard a familiar voice.

"Stop, my morgtar. I told you. I'm under the side effects of my ability. This is my original appearance, and I apologize. I shouldn't have opened that door like that. I almost caused your death."

I recovered from the shock and looked at the morgtar in front of me.

"No, it wasn't your fault. I'm not so weak that I can't defeat a few rats. I was just tired. That's why I was lying down. Don't worry about it."

I heard a deep, long laugh.

"You're funny, kid. I forgot to ask your name."

"Jin, just Jin."

"Just Jin?"

Morgtar repeated these words, and I nodded at him.

"Killing nearly 30 monsters on your own surprised me a bit. A few of them were your match, and five of them were of a different type. Do you know what I'm thinking? You're talented. What do you say? Would you like to be my student?"

I couldn't say a word in response to Morgtar's last words.

"You don't have to decide right away..."

"I accept."

I answered Morgtar before he could finish his sentence.

"Haha, good Jin. I really like you..."

"I have one condition."

I interrupted Morgtar again before he could finish his sentence. Morgtar scratched his chin.

"A condition, huh? Well, what's your condition?"

"You will stay on Earth for one year whenever I want. Just one year, please."

Morgtar scratched his head.

"One year is too long, child. I need to explore this place for the future of the world, and you want me to return to Earth for one year."

Morgtar was right, but his life was more important. I had to convince him.

"Please, just one year. I'll do anything you want. Please, for everyone's sake."

"For everyone's sake?"

Morgtar looked at me curiously. He asked the question I wanted to ask. That was the most important factor in convincing him.

"It's hard to explain, but I saw the future, and you were dying here on this planet. After your death, the world couldn't endure any longer and was destroyed within six years. Please, for everyone's sake, stay alive until stronger people emerge."

Morgtar shot me a sharp glance.

"A seer, huh. I've heard of a few seers in this world, but none of them could provide as much detail as you did. They just said a few strange words and took money. Well, I'll trust you. Let me know when the time comes. I'll announce to everyone that I've taken you as my student. Don't worry, not now. Grow stronger and be a source of hope for people. Be ready, the world is about to change."

I nodded to Morgtar and asked another question.

"But how did you know I went to the academy?"

"Ah, I just guessed your age and thought there was a high chance you'd go to the academy based on your abilities. My daughter also goes to the academy. She showed me a few of the moves you used. Ah, I miss my dear daughter. Don't worry, daddy will come to see you soon."

It was easy to tell that Morgtar loved his daughter from just a few words. Morgtar is definitely smart and knows how to understand people. I checked the portal's timer.

[00:00:15]

What? How many hours did I sleep? Wait, the loot.

"Well, we need to send you home. Are you ready?"

Morgtar looked at me and turned around to walk away. I quickly tried to find my dimensional bag. I looked around frantically. Morgtar noticed my confusion and walked toward me. I picked up the dimensional bag on the ground and waved helplessly at Morgtar.

[00:00:00]

[TIME'S UP. RETURNING.]

Morgtar looked at where Jin had disappeared and smiled deeply. He packed his things and left their hiding place.
