(Lucien's POV)
The wall split like bone under a hammer.
The crack thundered through the courtyard, dust and stone exploding outward. Wolves screamed and the scent of blood that flooded the air was thick enough to choke me. And just like that, the Ironclaws poured through.
I had seen battles. I had cut through rogues, snapped necks, and torn my way through lines of teeth and claws. But this was different. This was war swallowing us whole.
"Hold the breach!" Kieran's voice cut through the chaos, sharp as steel. He was at the front already, his sword flashing, his wolf a dark blur ripping through the enemy. He moved like he was born for this…because he was.
I wanted to be there with him. At his side, back-to-back, the way we'd always fought.
But Caelan stumbled against me with his heavy, fevered body and shaky his claws. He wouldn't admit it, but he was barely holding up, and the pack couldn't afford to lose him.
So I stayed.
I shielded him.
