Chapter 25 - The Storm in Waiting

Aisla's POV

As a child, no one noticed me at all. I passed through corridors like a ghost with my head down and my shoulders tight, never daring to look anyone in the eye.

Now I was the focus of the pack. Whatever I did, I could feel all the eyes in the pack fixed on me.

While some held respect, others were filled with suspicion. A few, open contempt.

The whispers also followed me everywhere.

"There she is."

"The omega."

"Three mates, can you imagine?"

"It is unnatural."

It was… in the kitchen, the training ground, the dining room, the marketplace. Some of the voices were hushed while the others were bold and loud enough for me to hear.

And though I pretended not to, I heard every single word.

Elder Mora told me to let them speak. "The river does not stop for stones thrown at its surface," she said. "It flows on."

But I am just a girl trying not to drown in the river of fate.

The training ground was my safe place.
